A sea rescue unfolded at Kata Beach when a vigilant lifeguard saved two 12-year-old French children who had become trapped in powerful ocean currents while swimming.

The incident, which occurred in the Karon subdistrict of Muang Phuket, was captured on video and later shared widely on social media by a Facebook user under the name Kon La Fan Pom Man Jon Loey Tong Su. The footage shows the response of the on-duty lifeguard, who paddled out on a surfboard to reach the boy and girl.

According to eyewitnesses, the siblings had been playing in the water when they were suddenly swept further out to sea by the waves. Despite their efforts, they were unable to swim back to shore. Fortunately, the lifeguard noticed their distress almost immediately and sprang into action.

Paddling through challenging conditions, the lifeguard reached the children and brought them both safely back to the beach, where they were reunited with their anxious parents.

The parents expressed their gratitude for the lifeguard’s timely intervention. “We are incredibly thankful,” the children’s father said. “Without the lifeguard’s quick action, the situation could have ended very differently.”

In a follow-up, the lifeguard took time to walk the French family along the beach to explain the safety signage posted along the shoreline. He pointed out which areas are designated safe for swimming and which zones should be avoided due to strong undercurrents and hidden hazards.

Phuket’s beaches, while renowned for their beauty, are known to experience dangerous rip currents, particularly during the rainy season. Local authorities regularly urge visitors to pay close attention to warning flags and lifeguard advice.

I pulled 3 kids out of the surf, all at Kata Beach.  One about 7 yrs old, he went under for the last time, and 2 young teens, got caught in the same rip I did :cheesy:

I had just gotten out of it, turned around and they were exhausted, just mouthing 'help'.   Back in I went.   I don't like going to the beach if a bunch of youngins in the water, as really hard for me to relax.

Hard to believe parents are that brain dead with their kids at the surf.

All the Phuket beaches are bad this time of year.   Red flags are out for a reason, everyday for about 4-5 months of the year.
