Can someone explain the allure of pattaya to me?

Featured Replies

Bareback with young ladies, massage, bars/booze, good golf nearby, inexpensive housing and food.

It is a dream for many who have been suffering and controlled by western thinking and disgusting women.

Up to you.

Think of it like going to the zoo. You get to see all the animals playing in their natural habitat.

sitting in a bar in pattaya is much better than sitting in a retirement home in your home country.

  • Pattaya is a lot easier then those isolated beach spots. It's easier to get what you need and there is always someone around who speaks english. You can also walk and don't need to drive for food and

You seem to know a lot about Thailand, living in the sticks in upper whoop whoop

Been to 12 islands. Chang a few times. I don't live in the sticks. You seem to post nonsense a lot. Never seen you post useful info. The 3 main beaches at Chang have 500 to 1500 baht bungalows. Not many tourists.

Pattaya has lots of things to do, going with sex workers isn't compulsory

Dirty city though. Guys with gfs can go to nice beaches. They don't need lots of things to do.

Thailand has better beaches, that are not being used and not filled with citizens of countries more third world than thailand. That and, the girls that go to pattaya are seeking foreigners because they spend more than thai men. Youre better off getting yourself a girl in the wild for the authentic thai experience. That and, all the crime seems to happen in pattaya, you see all the wacky stories here. Phuket is the same now too. Are these places like the mini vegas of thailand where degenerates go to get their thrills?

It's the easy to purchase women and bars. Thailand isn't third world. It's a developing country, although behind in many things. Third world means it's a country not aligned with Nato.

Well if you worked at the Lam Chabang Port area, why wouldn't you live in Pattaya?

Yes, they are.

By all means though, find a good wife and have a good marriage if you can pull it off instead.

But please don't get a divorce and then come on AN seeking psychotherapy because your woman was a narcissistic psycho who done you wrong. We're not shrinks here.

Pattaya is a great family destination, with top notch healthcare, education, infrastructure, nearby beaches and fantastic places to visit for days out...it's not just soi 6 you know.

For a couple of days break from Bangkok and a change of scene, for me at present Pattaya wins over say Hua Hin due to the ease of getting there...i.e., the motorway compared to the treacherous Rama 2 Rd to HH.

Not if you masturbate.

When did you ever go to a Thai beach? You sit behind a computer.

Are you still confused?

They made a spelling mistake, it should read Sad guys go to Pattaya

Change topic again?

Apart from the easily available sex, Pattaya is the most non-Thai place in Thailand.  Many want their home comforts while on vacation, as do many expats.

Beaches get boring, you're still in tourist mode, if someone's only choice was to go to the beach everyday most people would move elsewhere

At the beach? That's probably a criminal offence

I'd visited and used it as RnR between 97-02. From 02-09.5 I lived there. It was a different place, but here's why it worked for me ...

1 Getting into BKK was a mess as was dealing with taxis OR hop a bus to Pattaya for half. Time to get to Sukhumvit not all that different than Pattaya in those days.

2 I had a serviced apartment in Pattaya that was b4500 off 2nd road, ground zero. I think it was soi 7. I later moved up near 2nd road to a newer, better, bigger building b5500 unserviced. Decent, clean rooms were b350nt.

3 I traveled south Thailand peak high season and avoided the mess although nothing like today

4 As a local, I walked everywhere. We would follow a network of small sois and totally avoid all the tourists

5 Pattaya was not crushing as BKK and has small town feel low season.

6 Beach wasn't a strong point, but I knew a few vendors I could sit and not get hassled. Just read, enjoy the day, get over hangover. There was the Navy station or Wongamat if you needed a decent beach.

7 Heavy competition between gogos sometimes even doing free and buy 1 get 1 promotions.

8 I developed a little group of broke fallen angels that would constantly stop by for: drinks, cash, a nice meal, sleep in AC, companionship. The only time I paid bar fines was when I checked out a bunch of girlies and we either had a big lunch on Pattaya beach or went down to Bang Saray (which was a tiny fishing village at the time). We'd get hammered and a few would end up back at my place.

10 Bangkok was fun for a lark, but staying more than a few days I found the air pollution overwhelming. Despite being thousands of more vehicles on the road the air is better now.

11 I love the beach and the ocean. In Pattaya you have a bit of both. While it's a real privilege to live near or on a beautiful beach the reality is most are not that lucky. I differentiate between coastal places that you can live in places that you holiday since those paradises are so few and far between.  That's why I would leave during high season for a few months and head south and visit those beautiful places... and still do

12 I was pretty healthy at the time and really needed to go to hospital but Pattaya memorial was 5 minutes from me. If more serious there was Sirikit and BKK.

13 At the time I could speak fabulous Thai compared to my farang compatriots. There was a certain level of respect that I received from the Thais because no farang spoke any Thai. Everyone was very welcoming, friendly and that was extremely different than Bangkok

14 Open markets, food, goods shopping all easy and walking distance. At the time there was good Thai food about

15 If I had to guestimate I bet I spent a solid 25% ++ less living there AND it was a far more chill, fun environment.

There was an influx of crazy young British men around 05-09 with the weak thb. No idea when that ended I left in 2009. They were a menace. No Chinese, Russian, Indians.

After five years kinda full time and changes I was seeing it was time to move on.

I met my now wife while traveling in south Thailand in 09. Never went back.

It started to get weird as well. Bar girls give me the typical tourist questions about this and that. Reality was I was living in Pattaya before they hit their teens. These girls all about money and lacked the fun and charm of years past. Then...same as now in BKK gogos if you speak any Thai they up and turn tail as you're no easy mark.

I recall when no one wanted to live on soi bukhow bc it was too far back from Beach Rd lol. When LK metro was built and largely empty.

Some months I spent as little as 400usd like 15k thb at the time.

There was always a mafia, crime element to be sure. Mysterious  deaths 1x a week. Farang a few a month some sketchy, many old guys with health issues.

If you're not living in Bangkok just passing thru I think BKK was very boring during the day at that time.

Hua Hin and CM bigger bunch of nothing than they are today. Phuket has always been an overpriced hell.

That was then - many years ago.

Beaches are the best for some. Golf is boring.

Lived in many places in Thailand.  Chiang Mai was my favorite for many years but the filth and pollution is tiresome.  Now live in a pristine place that is incredibly beautiful.

What I like about Pattaya is I didn't standout and it was easy to blend in and not be concerned about local issues. By far the biggest benefit of Pattaya was my Thai group of friends that I interacted with everyday.  I haven't been able to do that where I'm at now and seriously doubt I will ever have a group of true Thai friends here.
