Can someone explain the allure of pattaya to me?

Youre better off getting yourself a girl in the wild for the authentic thai experience.

This is impossible. It's silly for you to even suggest it.

Girl in the wild lol ... That would be an online dating app?

How many girls in the wild speak English?

How many willing to put up with typical noob farang BS?

How many days of their ten day sex holiday do they need to go without before stumbling into a girl that will hook up with them?

What if they don't want to rent the woman for days? In fact, hourly is fine.

Most men in Pattaya dress like sh it, look like sh it, eat sh it... That's not going to appeal to the average Thai woman

Where would you expect this lot to travel in their ten day holiday to find fun, drink, companions? Do tell bc you've proposed just that

What if unlike you are not a very handsome man?

Think of it like going to the zoo. You get to see all the animals playing in their natural habitat.

i've seen several girls on dating apps write "No Pattaya Boys" in their profiles.
LOL.

Not sure if it's because what you mention above or they know they all sleep with hookers.

Or maybe both.

LOL

Oh goody, a Pattaya bashing thread. AN isn't fun without  one of these.

and yet all these pattaya haters are attracted to spend a good chunk of their precious time on a pattaya forum telling you how awful pattaya is and why they hate the place?

Could be. Also drinking problems, SMOKING... Many guys are super skint and really have personal policy of not spending anything on women (they have no experience with [normal] relationships).

Might be actually looking for a real relationship. Although a friend told me if they like you and you say nah...no ltr they'll agree to a ST for cash 💰

I knew a few normal guys like me, but most were well off base

Another reason I liked Pattaya was that I could get laid without getting entangled in relationships. I didn't want to string a woman along even if I was genuine about the relationship. I wasn't a forever guy at the time.

TBH dreg tourists on lower Sukhumvit are cut from same cloth. Many that live here dress horribly also.

Pattaya... truly the island of misfit toys

What's wrong with the truth?

Pattaya bashing has been done to death, and ranks up there with sinsod threads.   I am not a fan of Pattaya, but I can understand why it is popular with many people;

- Accessible health care

- Multiple language options

- Many European  food options, and a variety of restaurants

- Affordable

- Many activities can be walked to or are a short ride a way, with good transportation options.

-Some of the best value shopping options, with western size options

- Easy to get to, with a short drive unlike other Thailand resort cities.

Pattaya isn't for me, because I find that the city is too busy and the lifestyle is too fast paced. I like to be able to have a long walk on the beach Pattaya's beach isn't good for that. It is one of the reason's I left Patong years ago.

I take it you are trying to solicit substantive comments by posting this thread.........good luck with that.

Try going a little more hi-brow with your next effort.

Pattaya is a lot easier then those isolated beach spots. It's easier to get what you need and there is always someone around who speaks english. You can also walk and don't need to drive for food and supplies. One also blends in a lot better as a foreigner thus not attracting attention to oneself specifically. A lot of guys like that.

I thought Pattaya was not that bad really, I expected a hell-hole like Angeles City, but really Pattaya is not that bad. Sure, the mall is degraded and not comparable to Bangkok or CM, the restaurants are overpriced but it is easy to navigate, there are nice markets and the Walking Street was not as repulsive as one'd expect.

Didn't like the beach much, though the service on the loungers is great. Still, overall not the best place to live in Thailand for me.

It is not possible to tarnish the reputation of Pattaya beyond where it already is, it seems like at least from news reports a good percentage of the nation's crime seems to happen there, and certainly a good percentage of the crime committed against foreigners seems to happen in Pattaya.

A friend of mine who does not seem to get much attention in Los Angeles comes to Pattaya once or twice a year, for a little TLC. He told me since last year the women are fatter, uglier, and older, and the prices have doubled for PFP. Of course like many other things in Thailand reason does not seem to apply, as tourism is down, visitors are down, and business is way down according to the gals that he spoke with, and yet prices are way up, figure that one out.

That does not bode well for its future, considering how dependent that city seems to be on that segment.

I haven't been there in a very long time and I don't see the need to ever go back. I feel the same way about Phuket.

To be this naive is troubling.  You are on a Thai expat site, where sex and mongering and paying for women and bars and drinking and more sex, more sex, more sex is the dream of these 95 year old in the twilight of their life.

To not understand that allure to some is amazing.

You don't understand what exactly?

Do you understand online porn is fun for some?

I don't care for smoking, but I understand the allure.

come on brah.......  brah.....

Really Spidey? I am sure you mean Central Pattaya. I would have thought better from you as you live in Bangkok.🙃🙃

They do like rushing here. I walked into a cafe yesterday and was assaulted by several staff to order coffee before even being able to look at the menu on the wall. A lot of establishments here (also the people) are like that. It's not a relaxed beach destination.

I hate that sort of desperation and rushing...

No, I don't. But I do see your point as Pattaya is a large city and it does actually have quite a bit to offer once you get away from the rather small "zone area".

Same here, I really dislike Phuket as well.

Six separate beaches, hundreds of restaurants, dozens of clubs, thousands of girls, hundreds of massage parlours, beautiful green areas around upper Pratumnak; near big Buddha. That might be it.

Thousands of restaurants.

There is a local internet "personality" who has asserted that Pattaya has the most restaurants in the world when measured by density within a geographical area.

I don't know about that or how restaurant is defined exactly but there really are a s-load of them! Of course the quality of most of them is another matter.

By far the biggest benefit of Pattaya was my Thai group of friends that I interacted with everyday.  I haven't been able to do that where I'm at now and seriously doubt I will ever have a group of true Thai friends here.

Why do you suppose that is? Most people seem to say that Thais in tourist areas are the least fond of foriengers.

Indeed, but one can eat well in Pattaya. There's something for every budget. The Chinese restaurant in the Royal Cliff hotel, Huang Chao, is not bad. It just costs a bit more than in other places in Thailand.

The food markets aren't bad either, but again not cheap.

Pattaya is a pit always was and will be. The same can be said for much of the tourist/expat slums  throughout Thailand. Same old crap BORING!

No.   It's a personal choice thing.  Stayed in the area a few times, Na Kluea, Patts City / Beach, Jomtien, and didn't do anything for me.  Last time there, about 18 yrs ago, and by passed the area, last 3 of 4 times while heading to points East of.

@angryguy  did you even get out of the car, or simply drive through ?

... "Thats how i felt while looking at the streets from inside my car" ...

It's pretty easy to catch fleas in pattaya. A lot of people don't sterilize between sessions.

Susan, you really don’t want to go down this road of trolling me again. I’m happy to play along, but we both know how it ends, you disappear and sulk in some dingy Udon bar, slurping 40 Baht draft beers through a straw alone, just like last time. Go have yourself a little lie-down instead, sweetheart.

Susan lives here in Udon???!!!

Finally, somebody who has put forward logical/sensible personal reasons for concluding that Pattaya is not for them.

I can't disagree with any of the above and I will still go to Pattaya once or twice a month. I wouldn't choose to live there.

A lot of the woman are nasty and probably have fleas.

You may be right.  I like endurance sports and for some reason in Pattaya the groups are more accepting of  expats.  In Chiang Mai and other areas expats and Thais don't mix often other than races.  Possibly with more effort I could have been accepted but never made a concerted effort to belong.  Looking back I may have been lucky in Pattaya because of a Chinese runner that had an ability to bring us all together for events.  He died young a few years ago and I noticed there were few Farangs in the group when I visited last year.
