The Royal Thai Police has embarked on an ambitious nationwide operation to eradicate drug trafficking with stern warnings for any local authorities who fail to comply. The initiative, led by Thailand's Police Chief Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, aims to clear communities of illegal substances, reinforcing the government’s "NO Drugs NO Dealers" policy.

This sweeping directive follows a recent policy laid out by Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, with the goal of achieving drug-free communities across the country within a three-month timeframe. The campaign officially launched during a strategic meeting at the Army Club in Bangkok on 17th July 2025.

Phased Strategy for Drug Eradication

The campaign is structured into three distinct phases spread over three months. The first phase, from 20th July to 1st August, focuses on conducting thorough community inspections. This involves gathering detailed intelligence on drug-related activities and swiftly apprehending dealers for prosecution or rehabilitation.

During the second phase, we will intensify enforcement efforts and conduct repeat inspections to make sure we have not overlooked any offenders. The public will be encouraged to participate actively by providing confidential tips, while community leaders, health workers, and religious figures are invited to draft agreements, known as "village constitutions," to prevent drug infiltration.

The final phase will concentrate on evaluating the operation’s effectiveness based on community satisfaction with drug management efforts. Areas successfully eliminating drug activities will be heralded as exemplary drug-free zones.

Accountability and Recognition

Throughout the operation, police performance will be closely tracked. Units that achieve notable success will receive praise and potential rewards, while units that neglect their responsibilities will face disciplinary measures. This accountability aims to ensure that all regions are committed to the campaign’s objectives.

No one ever says they are going to find out why there is a demand for drugs and figure out how to lower demand.

Wonder how many will get shot trying to resist.

Same as all crackdowns... 3 days and it is over , back to normal.. Look at the latest helmet crackdown.. I have seen policemen driving around and a lot of people without an helmet, but the police officers just pretend they don't see them, it seems only roadblocks can be a problem for motorcyclists... so that is a Thai crackdown. instead of everybody without a helmet put aside an ticket them on every road..

This will not be different... I know that there is a man in our neighbourhood is caught several times for drugsdealing, but with an envelop he still continues....

... a good and easy start would be to go after the corrupt police officers who are involved in drug deals ...

Great idea.   Will police officers and other government officials involved in the drug trade be targeted also?

Not enough!

to eradicate drug trafficking with stern warnings

Yep, that should do it   🤣

The cops are neck deep in this stuff yet it's the hapless drug users that are targeted

Anyone living in Thong Lor and not want to get shaken down might think about moving..

Best of luck, with many influential people in the trade.

Did you consider that those influential people mostly will be left alone, but that the thousands of less influential ones, will be the subject of this crack down?

Yes, the mules will be caught, the drugs will be confiscated and dealt with, the influential traders will be left alone.

I know how it works

It’s a crackdown to take out the competition. If they really wanted to do good in the community, they’d sort the roads and stop idiots burning rubbish.

Don't forget wiping out the soi dog vermin

The "War Against Drugs" has been fought for 100+ years and the drug dealers are winning.  It shouldn't be difficult to comprehend that people wish to "feel good" drugs offer and path.  The powers that be can take the authoritarian Orwellian approach (which they will do and 100+ years of enforcement proves it doesn't work) or they could take the Brave New World approach and allow the common folk to enjoy their dictatorship without wall in a Brave New World where "Soma" is available for your every need.  Rule via truncheon and gun ain't gonna get them the result they wish for. Never has, never will.

Cuz "drugs is good", you can't change that.

People like the short term effects of recreational drugs.

If coffee was outlawed only outlaws would have dolce gusto machines.

Some drugs are more benign than others but nearly everyone uses some kind of

mood altering drugs.
