I was disappointed when Microsoft decided  to retire Skype but I know  change is inevitable.

What calling platform have you switched to that has the features offered by Skype?

Talk360, easy to set up, bought credit, not used it yet

If you have not used it why are you posting about it?

Because reviews were good and app set up easy unlike others I tried. Are you going to contribute anything useful? Or just be a negative troll

Localphone prices to the U.K:

Landlines All Landlines 0.5p
Mobiles All Networks 1.5p

Talk360 prices to the U.K.

Another very strange 'recommendation' from a certain member here.

It even charges for Freephone numbers. What a nonsense and a complete waste of our time here.

Localphone charges 0.5p and nothing for Freephone numbers.

Why on earth is @scubascuba3 pushing this?

Lies.

If you couldn't set it up, then that is down to your own abilities or lack thereof. Amply demonstrated by your frankly pathetic choice of calling platform. It's totally ridiculous and totally out of whack to far more recognisable vendors in the market.

Simply put, your recommendation is rubbish! Worse still, you haven't even tried it. Whereas I have used Localphone hundreds of times, so am in a position where I can actually recommend them. Your recommendation charges TWENTY EIGHT TIMES more than Localphone. Totally ridiculous.

I fully agree with @DezLez

Literally thousands of apps, just pick any no need to argue about it.

I was calling canada, so I downloaded Fongo 3 years ago. It cost me like 3 bucks for a lifetime subscription to any Canadian number.

Just canceled Sonetel after 3 months.  Calls were dropped after and constant staic when I did connect.  I have been using True to make calls to the US.  True charges 2.5 baht per minute to the US so at this i am looking for a new VOIP company. Phone2 sounds promising.

@sqwakvfr True Tourist SIM charges 1 baht via 00600. Though finding a 49 baht Tourist SIM isn't easy.

Just use Localphone....it's not difficult....and it's cheap.

Landlines All Other Landlines 0.5¢
OnNet - IA - 515 0.6¢
OnNet - HI - 808 1.5¢
OnNet - AK - 907 2.9¢
Mobiles All Other Mobiles 0.5¢
OnNet - IA - 515 0.6¢
OnNet - HI - 808 1.5¢
OnNet - AK - 907 2.9¢
Toll Free All Toll Free Numbers Free!

Even cheaper if you buy a subscription. a US$1 subscription brings the price down to 0.4c

US$10, 0.2c

Thanks.  More options the better. At this point I have not found any option that matches the cost, simplicity and reliability that Skype provided me for almost 18 years.  Skype worked great from everywhere I was at (this includes, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Iraq, Haiti and lastly anywhere I was in thailand).  Skype just let me top my account off to make calls and sometimes $10 on account lasted a year. Sad to see Skype end.

I need a system with a dedicated number which is Los Angeles based, that forwards to my app here and allows both incoming and outgoing SMS and voicemail, which Skype never offered. I've been using Fanytel, and it seems to work quite well. But for some for some reason the incoming calls don't always ring properly. That could be my phone.

Very few apps seem to offer local dedicated numbers, voicemail, and incoming and outgoing SMS.

I found "MyTello" quite by chance, and for me it works for the few land line numbers I call.  @.5BHT/minutes for land lines to the UK, and 1.5 BHT for mobiles, its as cheep as chips. It can also be setup in the UK for callers to call internationally, although I don't have any experience of that, so no comment.

For voice calls I use these :-

Whatsapp - mostly use this.

Faceboook Messenger - 99% of my friends are on FB and I can call them using messenger if needed.

Telegram - a lot of my friends use this.

Signal - gradually more people I know using this now.

Line - I use this for friends in Bangkok and some in Asia.

I also use Zoom & Google Meet when I need to share my screen, not just my voice and/or video.

SKYPE was excellent for me.  I was able to call any toll free numbers in the US for free.   If a brokerage platform went down, I could call and find out what happened.  I don't need something where both parties have to have the same set-up.

My devices with Skype on them were all replaced with Teams by Microsoft and I haven't used up my old Skype credit yet, so still expect several more years use out of Teams with Skype credit!

Voip.ms paired with Zoiper (follow the links on Voip.ms.)

US number 89 cents/month, calls are around 0.1 cents/minute.

Supports SMS, incoming and outgoing calls.

Setup wasn't the easiest, but their support staff was excellent. Now it's working perfectly
