EU civil war erupts as Italy's Giorgia Meloni explodes!

Meloni’s Migrant Plan Slammed by EU Court — Fury as Judges ‘Erase’ Italian Sovereignty

ROME — Giorgia Meloni’s war on illegal immigration has just hit a wall — a big, bureaucratic, Brussels-sized wall. Her controversial migrant plan, involving offshore processing centres in Albania, has been slapped down by Europe’s top judges — and she’s not taking it quietly.

The Italian Prime Minister is fuming after the European Court of Justice ruled that her government must justify why it considers certain countries “safe” to deport migrants to — and allow challenges to those claims. In short: migrants can't just be bundled off to Albanian holding camps without a proper legal explanation.

Meloni’s deal with Albania — hailed by her government as a bold solution to the migration crisis — aimed to fast-track asylum claims from nationals of so-called "safe" countries like Bangladesh and Egypt. But the courts weren’t convinced.

Three groups of migrants were already shipped off to Albania between October and January, but legal chaos soon followed. Italian judges argued that simply declaring a country “safe” wasn’t enough, especially if human rights protections only applied to part of its population. The result? Her flagship immigration crackdown stalled in its tracks.

The row exploded when two Bangladeshi migrants, rescued in Italian waters but taken to Albania for processing, challenged the very basis of their removal. The court sided with them.

On Friday, the ECJ issued its judgement: “EU law does not preclude a member state from designating a third country as a safe country of origin ... provided that that designation can be subject to effective judicial review.” Translation: you can’t just wave migrants off to Albania on a whim — there has to be legal process and transparency.

Meloni’s camp hit back hard.

“This decision weakens policies to combat mass illegal immigration,” her office fumed, accusing

You're too late. Unfortunately, she apparently exploded and the EU is now a war zone as a result.

Despite the ruling, Italy’s deportations to Albania will continue — for now. Authorities have since redefined the role of the Albanian centres to include migrants whose asylum claims have already been rejected. The court decision is seen as a win for Italian judges but has limited short-term impact on government policy.

Meanwhile, EU asylum law is evolving. A regulation set to take effect in June 2026 or sooner will allow governments to declare countries “safe” with certain exceptions — aligning more closely with Italy’s approach. The European Commission has also proposed its own non-binding list of safe countries, including Egypt and Bangladesh.

No surprise there then!

Perhaps a joint Thai/Cambodian Commission could give advice.

Break down that wall. Break down the EU.

Italexit.

Sadly Meloni doesn't have the power like Trump has

to do much more than these little battles against EU

immigration policy.

These politicians are frauds as well. How does she justify this one to Italians for voted for her to control migration.

"Italian PM Meloni's government to issue 500,000 visas for non-EU workers"

Euro governments are always a compromise, too many smaller parties.

Parliamentary democracy are the worst for change.

Merkel opened up Europe to a flood- tide of illegal immigrants, then left the scene to enjoy her retirement.  Although Italy is trying to halt the flow it appears unstoppable given that the European commission seems to want it to continue.

There is only one solution for any country trying to maintain its own culture when they are being invaded by people from an incompatible culture - withdraw from the UN Convention on Human Rights and Refugees.  Thailand is not a member and therefore if a boat of 'incompatibles' appears the Navy sends them away and says - 'keep going to Malaysia - they will accept you'.   If Italy withdraws then they are under no legal obligation to accept refugees unless they choose to do so. Continued membership of the EU is another matter - and what is being used against them to force compliance.  If they do quit - I can see a new trading block in Europe developing - Italy, Poland, Hungary and UK as core members - when UK gets rid of Labour.

She is 100% correct.  Everyone wants to 'help' migrants, but not in my backyard and I agree with her.  They should ship them to the EU courts (in Belgium? yes.)

The headline could be misleading. The title says she exploded, but the item does not mention her exploding at all.

To many liberal courts with judge's who sit on their high horses with no sense of the filth, criminal activity and disruption to local community's these illegal scum bring with them.

No they didn't . Some ambulance chasing lawyer(s) did.

Brings back memories of the UK attempt to send some migrants to Rwanda. Even though the UK is out of the EU, it's still subject to ECHR rulings and they ruled illegal by them. The only solution for the UK appears to be to elect Nigel Farage who will either take the UK out of ECHR or just ignore it, along with the relevant UN convention.

Seeing the boats rolling in daily with economic migrants from safe country of France makes the blood boil.

How do you know they're not brits? :coffee1:

"The UK is experiencing a significant outflow of high-net-worth individuals, with predictions for 2025 showing a record loss of millionaires. This "millionaire exodus" is driven by a combination of factors including tax hikes, declining economic confidence, and a perception that other countries offer better opportunities and quality of life, according to Henley & Partners. While some reports focus on the financial implications, others suggest a broader shift in values and a desire for more fulfilling lives elsewhere."

You mean liberal courts adhere to the law and other courts don't?

Good thing for you appointments to these courts are a-political.

Italy should just study the UK. They did a Brexit to solve the immigration problem and this has gone incredibly well. Immigration in the UK is now practically solved.

Why not learn from Farage and Co? They've worked wonders in Britain. Things are so much better now.

The United Kingdom is no longer in the EC but France still is, hence their lack of action on preventing these trafficking gangs and hordes of rubber boat riders from leaving the French beaches. The EC collective mostly has the same issue with mass illegal migration but they're not about to do the Brexit winners any favours.

Every illegal that leaves from French beaches and never returns is one less illegal for the EC to deal with.
