What do you need to bring to Banglamung LTD to change your drivers license to your new passport number?

I know a lot of people don't do this but I would like to to keep my drivers license up to date and if the passport number on the drivers license is not correct you will sometimes have problems when using this as identification.

How often do you need to show your driving licence? I have never needed to show mine 3 years since I renewed it. I think the police have all retired.

I imagine its just your passport, but they could require other documents like a Res cert. These requirements change on a regular basis, so probably best to ask the DLT direct.

Have now changed my passport number in my drivers license in Banglamung, Pattaya.

 

Old and new passport was needed.

copies of both passport, including visa in new passport

Residence certificate from immigration, copy is ok for second drivers license.

Original and copies of drivers license, both sides.

 

Doctors certificate and photos not needed.

 

If you have two drivers licenses you need a full set of copies for each drivers license.

The total cost for two licenses was 110Baht and the whole process took 45 minutes.

 

Same procedure if you need to change the address on your drivers license.

I had a similar enquiry when I renewed my passport. Went to my local land Transport Office to update my license and was told not necessary, wait until is license is due for renewal.

In 15 years I have never had to submit my passport AND my Thai licence for any reason whatsoever, except when applying for a replacement licence.

 

I'd me more concerned about updating your new passport number with your bank and your Telecom provider, especially Bangkok Bank.

How about auto insurance ? Do they need updated licenses as well as new passport update ?

Irrelevant, really. 

I moved provinces and wanted to change the address and went to see the DLT. They said that they would not do it as it is irrelevant as far as the address is concerned. As I was there already I also mentioned the meanwhile obsolete old passport number. 

There again, irrelevant, as the passport is only one part of the identification process in obtaining a driver's license. 

Once it was up to renewal I asked again and a different officer confirmed what the first one told me before.

So don't worry about that. Should you however, for whatever reason, get queried then just mention, that the passport has changed as the old one was full or expired.

When I did it some years ago, I just brought the old- and new passport, and my DL. New photo taken and a modest fee of then less than 200 baht for the card; easy peasy...

 

As I'm now listed in my house's Yellow House Book and have a pink ID-card, they use my Thai ID-number for DL – even more easy peasy...👍 – so, I don't need to change DL with the number of the new passport, which I got last month...😉

Just wait until Driving Licence renewal time. Deal with it then.  Just saying

Everyone's situation is, if not unique, definitely different from yours.

 

For example, I needed to update the passport number on my Thai DL as the Thai DL was being provided as additional proof of identity, domicile and residence and DIDN'T MATCH MY NEW PASSPORT.

Although roojai never specifically asked for it, I made sure that they had it.

I've looked at the comments and yes if you only use your license when stopped by the police you probably don't need to update your license with your new address or passport number.

 

If you do use your drivers license as identification you should keep it updated. I use it as identification where they have my passport number and also use it to prove my address.

 

One thing I noticed when updating the passport number was that my digital license did not work. I had to delete the app and register again. For those of you that don't know, you can have a digital drivers license on your phone that is accepted by the police. It could be handy if you forgot your license when driving but still have your mobile. This is the only digital license accepted by the police, On the Google play store it's called DLT QR license. It's all in Thai but can be navigated by google translate or a Thai speaking friend.

Be sure to bring your old passport along with your new one when you renew your licence.

DLT officer I asked told me no need, wait 7 more years until DL expire, no problem. Never had any issues the 7 years my DL had the wrong Passport number. It also have my old living address on the backside of my licenses. Now mine has just expired, so will go and renew this month.

Me too.  In 20 years I've never updated my DL with either a new address or a new passport number.
