Thailand's Tourism Soars with 20 Million Visitors in 2025

Featured Replies

Thai Ministrys think there above everyone and your below us is there thinking. So they will publish lies thinking the locals will believe it, keep repeating it and eventually they will believe it because the Government run the Country, thats why they keep the locals blind and the Government prefer them not to question. A bit like Chemicle Ali when interviwed saying the Coalition are not in Baghdad when the tanks were firing into the Capital.

They don’t know how to count it seems like just the other day they were down five or 10% then they were complaining about getting to some other areas because they were down all of a sudden they’re up who knows you’re up or down their sideways for sure they don’t know how to add TIT

I’d never hire the fortune teller TAT usually goes to. His predictions are way too muddled to take seriously.

These tourism numbers are making me dizzy. They’re up and down like a honeymooner’s bum.
Do any of these people know what they’re doing?

Are u guys getting it ??? The hole last 2-3 months was a General outcry that they lost 5% tourist n now they r thriving ? GL with the stats ....

Meanwhile today...

"

Thailand's tourism sector is grappling with challenges as the Thai baht strengthens, making visits pricier against global currencies. Visitor numbers are dwindling, and recent safety concerns add to the apprehension.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports revealed foreign tourism earnings of around 938 billion baht from January to August 10, missing the annual target of 1.77 trillion baht. Foreign arrivals have decreased by over 6% compared to last year, totalling 20 million visitors so far."

One day they say one thing, and the next day they say the opposite.

One day they write an article about why tourism is plummeting, the next day they publish another one commenting on the explosive rise in tourism.

And the problem is that both are official government news.

I blame Schizophrenia for the daily twists and turns....

Sure the numbers soar, but their spending is nowhere near 20million. The point here is that it is not just counting the arrivals, But what is actually spent. Considering the global climate of recession in spending power of people all over, plainly playing on the number of arrivals may not mean much. At most, it may look good on the spreadsheet displayed to the authorities.

The bureaucracy will never understand who really spends. It's definately not the 3 week tourists. It's more those who own property in Thailand, stay here for 2, 3, 6 months (or more). They are the foreign visitors who are the big spenders.

But once again, the corruption and greed is also chasing the property owners out from the country,  as they are fed up in the cultural habbit of getting cheated, overcharged on their home maintenance and overpricing in services and goods.

It's not a stupid reply, but maybe you also have issues reading.

The topic the day before was about a 5% decline in AUGUST arrivals, not about the whole year, which this topic is about

Let's make "waiving TM.6" permanent!!

Is TM 6 your only issue, 555, do you relies how rediculous that is....

on July 15 Reuters made an OP about how Thailands tourism is 5.6% less than last year.

https://www.reuters.com/markets/asia/thailand-tourist-arrivals-drop-562-yy-so-far-2025-2025-07-15/

On July 1 Bangkok post made an OP almost the same as Rueters.

Thailand foreign visitors down 4.6%
https://www.bangkokpost.com/business/general/3061360/thailand-foreign-visitors-down-4-6-year-on-year-so-far-in-2025.

Can anyone explain how, in low season, with Cambodias borders closed did Tourism bounce back to become as this OP is claiming in less than a month?

In its latest update released on 22 July, the ministry reported that from 1 January to 20 July 2025, a total of 18,365,651 foreign tourists visited Thailand, representing a 5.91% decrease from the same period in 2024.

https://www.nationthailand.com/blogs/news/tourism/40052924

Also, Hua Hin is dead, this is considered the slow season for tourism. So how can this Op be accurate and optimistic?

Or maybe it depends whether or not the Minister gets any nookie. If tes, then tourism is fine. If not then -5%.🙂

Good morning , What is TES please?

TAT's announcement today, contradicts TAT's announcement yesterday, and will contradict TAT's announcement tomorrow.

TAT = Totally Always Truthless.

Apology. Didn't check my typing. 'tes' should be 'yes'

Thats last week

Don't worry ..  Monday they will report the exact opposite ...    again !!!

I am all for positive news, trust me, but the way the tourism promotion board is blowing continuously its own trumpet is second to none.

Quality over quantity was the doctrine in the past and it worked very well. Today it is quantity which comes with the usual range of problems due to the lower education and interest level of the visiting avalanche of (mostly) Asian tourists. The average spending must have nosedived.

Quite obviously the only increase is the sheer number of arrivals. As a non-Thai citizen I dilute the arrival figure by weekly crossing into neighboring Laos and the weekend shoppers from Laos and Malaysia are also in those figures 😉

Thailand’s tourism industry is thriving, having welcomed over 20 million international tourists in just the first eight months of the year. This influx has generated a remarkable 937.6 billion baht, underscoring the sector's vitality.

The impressive figures, shared by Sorawong Thienthong, Thailand's Minister of Tourism and Sports, cover the period from 1st January to 10th August 2025. By then, the country had already hosted 20,197,119 tourists.

Chinese visitors lead this boom, with 2,835,910 arrivals, followed closely by tourists from Malaysia (2,785,725), India (1,426,080), Russia (1,144,105), and South Korea (950,692).

Last week marked a noticeable rise in arrivals, fuelled by summer vacations and a series of public holidays in Japan. The resulting influx from Japan saw an impressive 86.3% increase in visitor numbers, elevating its rank from fifth to third in weekly arrivals.

In addition to short-haul guests, long-haul travellers from Israel significantly contributed to this growth, many visiting after completing religious observances. These combined factors drove the week's foreign arrivals to 627,339, translating to a 7.08% increase over the previous week and an average of nearly 90,000 daily arrivals.

The top nationalities for the week were China (102,750), Malaysia (85,622), Japan (37,611), India (35,387), and South Korea (32,320). While tourist numbers were buoyant from Japan, Malaysia, and China, South Korea and India experienced a slight decrease.

Thailand anticipates a steady flow of tourists, supported by several strategic initiatives. Key drivers include continuing school breaks in Europe and East Asia and the launch of the "Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025" campaign. Furthermore, the government is implementing travel-friendly measures such as waiving the TM.6 immigration card requirement, easing entry for visitors.

To further enhance accessibility, efforts are underway to encourage airlines to increase flight frequencies. This strategic push is expected to sustain and even boost visitor numbers in the coming months.

Thailand's tourism sector is enjoying a vibrant revival, showcasing significant growth and strategic foresight. The welcoming of over 20 million tourists signals a robust recovery, with promising prospects ahead. As the nation continues to attract visitors from around the globe, this momentum is likely to sustain throughout 2025 and beyond.

THey need to malke up their minds - even ASEAN NOW have published articles that would seem to contradict this fee;ing.RE

This a 180 after recent reports of Thai tourism in the toilet.  Did someone give the minister Vietnam's tourism numbers by mistake?

This seems like a controversial topic, although statistics should be straight forward.  In Chiang Mai, my friends that own well-established restaurants report business being VERY slow.  A week ago I went to lunch at a very popular restaurant and it was nearly empty.
If we are getting those tourists, where are they?  What are they doing?  And where are they spending money?

We used to say that "numbers lie and liars figure".  Who is correct here?

Malaysians who stay 2-3 days. Chinese who travel here for 6-7 days tops... No way that they can compensate for long-distance travellers and retirees who usually stay for weeks and months.

LOL! Seems like they have forgotten that the numbers have been falling with a few million tourists! Soaring? LOL! Yeah....sure....🤣

One day it soars, then next it tanks... TAT needs to get it's act together and stop doing a copy and paste of the CCP propaganda style nonsense it keeps vomiting. I guess the truth gets lost in the opaque nonsense they are told to put out.

So at the 2/3 point of the year the count is 20 million visitors. Then on that trajectory there would be another 10 million visitors in the last 1/3 of the year . So 30 million for the  years total.
