You really think all that violence was justified? Omg.

OMG yes I  do    OMG

Looks like more quality, high value tourists.  Mind you Phuket well known worldwide for damage scams on bikes and jet skis

Unfortunately true, on both counts.

It was the wrong way for the tourists to react. Though the Thai victims would probably get more sympathy if 'scooter scams' weren't such a prevalent problem.

You let third world in, so deal with it.

Come on, this time it's just "foreigners" when usually nationality is clearly stated. Looks like Arabs to me....

I notice this with articles too.  Certain nationalities always listed specifically and others are just labeled generic foreigners.

A yes, the screeching of the locals. It's like a National Geographic special on screech monkeys.

I am impressed that so many people knew the demographic. That's Phangmuang Sai Gar Soi where a lot of the cheap 2*-3* hotels @ 1200-1500 baht a night rooms can be found. That side of Patong never attracted the best class of people, but it is supposed to be better now.  Patong invested money in paving Phra Metta and putting in proper street lighting.

Before everyone rushes to condemn the rental business, please remember that this is the demographic in patong who are the pr*cks on motorbikes who speed, cut people off, make noise at all hours and don't care about anyone else. They are the ones who drive onto the beach or on curbs and sidewalks etc., so it is possible there was damage.

This was my thought.  Where were the foreigners from?  Russia?

Arab is not a nationality.

Hmmm... There are 17 Arab countries that stretch from the far west coat of Africa all the way to Papua New Guinea. I wonder what kind of Arabs they were. Question, what's the difference between Arab and Muslim?

https://teachmideast.org/arab-middle-eastern-and-muslim-whats-the-difference/

Or they could have easily been Hindu that has a handful of countries...!

It's about time these little scammers get caught... no such thing as an honest business in tourism... these little <deleted> give Thailand a bad name! Glad to see Farang organizing and holding them responsible!

Ok I understand now. There are many breeds of dogs originating from many countries, therefore there is no such thing as dogs. Got it I stand corrected.

yet they have much in common. Take 5 Arab countries and 5 European countries. Do they overlap randomly with each other or share things in common?

Happy Holidays in Phuket lol

10 against 1 or 20 against 1...the Farangs learned from the Thais...

Just learning local culture and behaviour, whatever could go wrong!!

Mimetism. We have seen the same story, in reverse, hundreds of times.

Ganging up like that, I'd be surprised if these quality tourists aren't Indian.

multiple rip offs: first it was jet ski and some motorbike and now mostly motorbikes as jet ski business is practically dead in Jomtien anyway

But Pattaya is a family resort so not quite the same.

This scam has been going on like forever and nothing done about it. Good to see the Farang giving the Thais a dose of their own medicine.

The victims, one of whom owns a nearby motorcycle rental business, are currently receiving treatment at Patong Hospital. Witnesses reported that the conflict began when the owner requested compensation for damage to a rented motorcycle, which led to the foreign renters refusing to pay.  The dispute spiralled out of control when the owner suggested police mediation, prompting a violent reaction from the group.

It's kind of sad when you can't tell who the real victims are in the story.  Or whether the cops showing up would deal out justice or prove to just be part of the scam.

Sorry, that wasn't the point I was making. You seemed to imply there was some intent in not giving a nationality by just stating foreigner. Having seen the video there is no clear label the reporter could attach; the mob is not white farang, nor Chinese or African. They would appear to be either Middle Eastern or South Asian (Subcontinent) or indeed European migrants from those regions. So in the absence of any other data, stating 'foreigner' is the best the article can reasonably do.

Not only possible but highly probable,          Its not unlikely that they profited nicely out of each and every incident

These new european Passportholders behave in a foreign country just like they behave in their Banlieus

They are obviously  Middle Eastern or Indian  men, not European.

Well, at least the Thais have their priorities right when it comes to nationality.

they certainly do, something the west is not capable of

if the shop owner was running a variation of the pattaya jet ski scam,  i can understand the anger.  the jet ski scammers always invited police involvement as well,  and some corrupt cop appears and takes the side of the scammer, naturally.

Hiring a motorbike / scooter, a Car, or a Jet Ski, is almost guaranteed to cause anxiety when it comes to returning the rental.

These transactions can end up costing more than you bargained for and ruin your day, if not your Holiday.

Hiring is best avoided.

Wonder how this will be followed up. Angry Tourist Mob violently attack a thai Local Buisness. Tarring us all with the same brush, why havn't they named the Nationalities of suspects ? something they would rather not comment on ?. I'm with the other posters on here go in Mob handed like they do us.

Tried the thieving scam on the wrong people this time.  Police mediation? Yeah we've heard that one before and we all know how that ends

I don't know. I rented an apartment, but left after 5 weeks, I told the landlady she could keep the deposit, but she wanted the deposit plus another month's rent on top, she called the police, the office looked at the rent agreement and told her there was nothing in the agreement that said I had to give notice, he made her give me my deposit back. Then she said to check my passport, he replied, "I'm not here to check his passport". Then he said I could go, with the B6000 deposit.
