Bangkok police have raided an unlicensed nightclub in Huai Khwang popular with Chinese tourists, finding more than 300 revellers inside. Six people tested positive for drugs, while officers also seized packets of suspected narcotics.

 

The raid was carried out in the early hours of 16 August by Huai Khwang Police Station in coordination with the Metropolitan Police’s Women and Children’s Welfare Division, Immigration Bureau and the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB). More than 50 officers took part in the operation.

 

Inside the venue on Pracha Uthit Soi 11, authorities found 328 people, 122 Thais and 206 foreigners, mostly Chinese. All activities were halted as police secured the building. Urine tests revealed six drug-positive cases, including Chinese and Vietnamese nationals.

 

During a search of VIP rooms, police discovered four packets of “happy water”, a synthetic party drug, as well as traces of methamphetamine and ketamine among some patrons. No one admitted ownership of the substances, prompting forensic officers to collect DNA samples from those present.

 

Pol Col Prasopchok Iampinit, Huai Khwang police chief, said the raid followed intelligence reports that the venue was operating illegally and was a potential hub for drug use.

 

“The establishment had no licence to operate as a nightclub or to sell alcohol. We have detained the manager for prosecution and will recommend the venue be closed for five years under national security orders,” he said.

 

Those who tested positive were taken to Nopparat Rajathanee Hospital for confirmation before facing further legal action.

 

Police urged the public to report any suspicious venues where large numbers of foreign nationals gather, as part of wider efforts to combat crime and drug use in Bangkok’s nightlife scene.

When I'm trawling around the bars in BKK I never see anyone dealing drugs, taking drugs, buying drugs.......where am I going wrong?

Yes...see them all the time....I always smile, they are scary.....but still never see anyone buying......but then again I'm usually in bed for about 9pm.

The police must be proud, 6 out of 300 had drugs in their system. Was it even worth the effort to drug test and harass all of those foreigners?

So what drugs were they found to have consumed? Was it a class A line of Coke or are the RTP just getting themselves on the starting blocks to begin arresting anyone for weed, now that they have made it illegal again and ripped off and robbed thousands of their own citizens of the new business that they tried to create! Another Ship of fools!
