Thai Masseuse Accuses Employer of Sexual Assault

In Phuket, a Thai masseuse has accused her former employer, an Egyptian national, of sexually exploiting her and other female workers in the bustling Patong area. The 36-year-old woman courageously shared her ordeal, aiming to alert others about the potential dangers that await in the island's popular massage scene.

Speaking through the Phuket Times' Facebook page, she revealed that she had found safety in a new job, free from her alleged abuser. Her tale, however, paints a grim picture of life at the massage shop she once worked at.

The massage parlour, owned by the Egyptian, reportedly recruited freshly graduated students from local massage schools. But what began as a promising opportunity turned into a nightmare. According to the masseuse, her employer demanded oral sex shortly after she started, threatening her job security—an essential lifeline for her, as she needed to care for her 89-year-old bedridden mother.

Her claims suggest she was not alone in this ordeal. She alleged that other female colleagues experienced similar harassment, creating an environment of fear and compliance. Eventually, unwilling to endure further assaults, she chose to resign and share her story with local media in the hope of preventing others from experiencing the same fate.

The public reaction has been mixed. Her account, lacking tangible evidence, led some sceptics to question its authenticity. Comments emerged, questioning her rationale for staying after the initial assault and her decision not to involve law enforcement.

One netizen asked, “Why didn’t you report this to the police?” while another wondered why she believed compliance was her only option when multiple jobs are available in Patong.

Conversely, others showed empathy, suggesting that the psychological impact and fear of dismissal might have deterred her from speaking out sooner. They argued that in cases of alleged abuse, the victim’s voice should be prioritised over unverified accusations of deceit.

While the masseuse has come forward, it's unclear if any legal proceedings have been initiated against her former employer, sparking further debate about the effectiveness of existing support systems for victims of workplace harassment in Thailand.

The story highlights a broader issue, challenging both the community and authorities to ensure proper avenues are available for victims to seek justice without fear of reprisal. In a region known for its vibrant tourism and hospitality industries, the protection of workers remains a critical concern.

As discussions continue, the call for improved workplace protections grows louder, urging a collective effort to safeguard vulnerable workers from exploitation. Authorities are now faced with the challenge of balancing tourist-driven employment opportunities with stringent enforcement of workers' rights.

This case serves as a crucial reminder of the complexities surrounding allegations of workplace abuse. It underscores the need for a culture where victims feel supported and safe to report incidents without stigma or fear.

Without concrete evidence, the case remains a he-said-she-said situation. However, the power of this woman’s testimony cannot be denied, as it encourages ongoing discourse on protecting vulnerable workers in Phuket and beyond.

The Egyptian owner probably lined them up and said to himself that's a fair row 🤔

Another creeper under the delusion that all young Thai women are desperate.

He wanted to test her ability to give a happy ending. She is only upset because he did not give her a good tip afterwards.

That's what he Sphinx.

There are massage shops every few steps that will hire almost anyone in all tourist cities.

Her story is rendered somewhat unbelievable because she could have said no when asked to perform oral sex at the outset. There doesn’t seem to be any suggestion of violence, simply that it was a case of no <deleted>, no job. She could/should have said no and moved on.

Plenty of jobs available in Patong and other areas of Phuket.

Sounds like either the Cairo practitioner put some body out of joint, or he's just a dirty Giza who reached a plateau, after settling on a west bank and is in denial...

How come an Egyptian can own a massage shop in Thailand? I thought that was an occupation reserved for Thais? Or is it that foreigners can own as business as long as they don't work in it?

I think you can't work as a traditional masseur, but you could own the shop .... but he'd need a work permit and the right visa, which seems unlikely.

Manipulating and oiling the powers that be, most likely.

In CM many of the shops are owned by Chinese and them get extra benefits as such TIT

In Thailand, such incidents regrettably occur within the entertainment, hospitality, and restaurant sectors, as well as in education, among others, as well.

Superiors and managers often seek particular favors, and from my own experience, many women are willing to provide such favors in exchange for improved grades, higher pay, promotions, or job security.

@thesetatI concur that this may be the reason in this instance.

Sex, intimacy, betrayal, cheating, lying, and similar matters are treated as a game in Thailand, and everyone participates. However, due to various hierarchies, each person assumes a different role.

I do not endorse such conduct. I am entirely opposed to it, as it invariably leads to personal and business relationship difficulties.

Regarding rape, sexual assaults, physical violence, and so forth, these are actions I vehemently condemn and always will.

I regret what occurred to this lady, though she could have simply refused and sought employment elsewhere, which is readily available for a Thai massage therapist.

I'm sure there are plenty of massage shops around where the owners do not coerce the girls who work there, and force them into committing sexual acts against their will.

She should have just said to him you're incredibly ugly, you smell, you are undesirable on every level imaginable, and there's no way I'm going to come within 10 ft of that thing. See ya!
