Moral of the story.    Don't believe everything you read on WhatsApp. 😂   I'd say it's a fake story, something doesn't sound right.

Thanks for your prompt response.  Are you saying I have to do this myself?  Would the seller do it for me?  'an app an cable (usb C to C) to streamline the process.'

I've always done it myself but I'm sure the seller will do it for you.

It's an easy task.

I think....and please...dont quote me ...but in all my wisdom I have been told or perhaps should I say informed that if the mere mortal goes outside tukcom he may in fact receive half price services

I remember and only just slightly, I went to buy a suitcase a few years ago in that luggage store near Jomtien beach opp that cash exchange place

I said how much is that?

, I can't recall the price she said but she said , but a agreeable price and then without me saying yes she loudly like aggressively immediately ripped the tag off

Now I don't really want it ..I didn't even want it ....1500 baht for that rubbish

but...she ripped the tag off pushed it forward to me.. so I had to buy it ,and I thanked her by wai her rather than get aggressive and loud rude

similar to the older man , or should perhaps we be politically correct and say mature aged man please there's no need for ageism !!!

Absolute garbage. It never happened, only in your online fantasy world. Those cleaning chemicals you have been mopping around for years have finally taken their toll with your sanity.

Most phones have an inbuilt clone phone app.

Tukom, the biggest rripoffretail place I've ever seen.  The counters with giant SAMSUNG signs overhead are not authorized dealers and you can expect to be overcharged substantially.  Your best bet is to go to Samsung website to find the real price Samsung charges for the phone you are looking for and present that to the fake dealer.  If they won't match that price walk away.

And if your samsung needs servicing.... take it to the Samsung Service centre !

I was there yesterday. I am the same age as the geriatric gentleman who got ripped off. I bought a phone cover and protective screen for 400 bahts. Seems reasonable to me. Mind you, I did not bargain. I could potentially have knocked 50 bahts off the price. Good service for a 5 year-old Huawei P20 Pro.

They seem to have minimum pricing there so worthless asking other booths, best to go elsewhere unless a tourist

And are you able to register the warranty with Samsung....go on their website and try registering it and let us know if you are successful.....

Never ever experienced anything like this. A fake story I suspect. Having said that, anyone who is that bothered by the loss of 600 baht shouldn't be here.

Simple. They will find living in Thailand too expensive.

Nah, people of quite substantial means may well not like losing the 600 baht too!

Fair point.

The two times I bought name brand stuff at Tukom it ended up being fake.  One was a Samsung battery replacement for a phone that didn't last as long as the one it replaced, the other was a Samsung fast charger that had a power output that was less than the specs.  Tukom is good for buying odds and ends like cables and phone cases, but I would stay away from the name brand stuff they try charge a premium for.  You most likely will not be able to tell the difference between a real one and a fake just by looking at it.  Or it might be the real thing with the model # and specs changed.

The OP thinks the foreigner should just pay and not argue, contrary to what should happen. The foreigner should just say he was just asking how much the case was, not that he wanted to buy it.

Not arguing when you're in the right has others taking advantage of not only you, but others afterwards.

Why did the seller open the packaging then place it in a bag?

Thinking the buyer wanted to buy, and not just inquire about the price? We weren't there, so can only go by what he said.

Since when have you ever seen a seller open up the packaging to begin with then put into a bag?  If This post is for real it's a scam. (If package is sealed they wont break the seal only time they might pull item out is if it can be restored easily)

Look back at the beginning of this conversation, where another asked for someone to translate what the OP had said, that he couldn't understand what he meant. I translated to help him, and added what i thought should be done, so the seller wouldn't take advantage of the supposed buyer. It isn't about me as I wasn't there. I was just trying to tell the OP what should have been done in that situation. The buyer was just asking how much, and the seller thought he was buying it, so they opened the package and placed it in the bag, which doesn't mean the person has to buy it as they were only asking how much.

Thats fine and im only discussing no blame to anyone, its just seems odd to me a seller would open a package especially in that place, I dont see how a seller would purposely open a sealed package unless they expected a sale, at least once maybe twice here in Thailand I was enquiring to buy a product and asked for them to open, they needed my assurance I was buying, last week at Banana bought a new iPhone, they wouldn't open the sealed box until I had payed but at the same time made sure I was getting the colour and gig size I was after, Id say if the buy does not have English as there first langue there was a communication miss understanding, I dont accept they tried to scam him.

Either a misunderstanding that the man was going to buy anyway or a pushy saleswoman thinking by opening the package the foreigner had to buy it, as many think money means little to us as we have so much. Not a scam but just pushy, thinking he would just go along with it.
