That is a Risk.  Could be someone connected and you could be deported and blacklisted.  

 

There are options that would give a foreigner a better outcome with less risk of deportation.

 

See some post from people who obviously have not seen a Thai fight go down.  You would think a siren and blinking strobe light has gone off calling all Thai's to join in.  This isn't the movies.  They won't queue up and wait their turn. Kicks, punches, gardening tools, etc will be coming from all sides within a minute of the start.  Self defense experts don't give you much of a chance against 2 or more people.

I'd call the police.  They would respond in about 30 seconds to defend me.

I would do everything I could to defend myself and to diffuse the situation. If you do fight back and you kick his ass you lose, and if he kicks your ass you lose. It doesn't matter here whether you win or lose, if you're fighting with a Thai  person you lose. 

Being a "man" can cost you in Thailand. Law enforcement has been very clear that non-Thais should not fight back. It sounds insane and is certainly not logical but that's the way they think. I would run rather than being a "macho man" and ending up in prison.  You really cannot win here.

When I worked security I never hit anyone, I used force when necessary, like using arm locks.  But nothing to seriously harm the other person. The places I worked were pretty HiSo to be fair, although drunk investment bankers are just as much of a nuisance as drunk road sweepers.

Since I quit working security I've avoided all situations that could become violent.  It's far better to just walk away from idiots who want to start something.

Have had them jump from their cars/pickups/minivans brandishing baseball bats/hand guns/etc etc... none have gone the extra yards and attemped to hit me.
