Do you own a robot vacuum cleaner?

Featured Replies

I thought I'd put this in the pub for more light-hearted, er, "reviews".

We've recently lost our maid (hubby had a stroke) and Madam isn't as young as she was, so I thought I'd get her a "little helper" 🙂

So, do you have one of these new-fangled beasties, which one, what do you think of it? Worth the wonga or a total disaster?

We're looking as one of the higher-end jobbies like the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X20 Pro https://www.lazada.co.th/products/i5386646044-s22875956321.html which mops as well as sucks.

How have your pets reacted, what stupid things has the vacuum done?

Maybe it's cleaned up a crime scene :whistling:

Is there one that can actually get in the corners.....?....🤭

My live-in housekeeper/Missus is a very pleasant 34-24-32 and she doesn't wear a bra when doing housework.

What's that got to with robot vacuum cleaners you may ask?

Well I found a spin-mop with a very short handle, so any automation would ruin my weekend view.

I've been considering buying one of these and telling the Mrs it's a robot vacuum cleaner. Retreat to a safe distance before she uses it for the first time.....

Beat me to it..

My daughter'in'law in Aus loves them. Cats and dogs get used to them.

Just gotta pick up mats first and shoes or anything not in the grand plan.

Sometimes it escaped and headed outside for the pool. Due to a rug.

My wife uses the garden fairy to do the vacuuming as well. Sorry, not helpful to you.

I had one back in the UK.

Gave up using it after a while, they are a bit of a nuisance to clean.

Nope.  But I'm considering buying this model.

Robot cleaners are great no matter what some may claim.

But, if you are not staying in your place full time and not home using it regularly, the battery will be close to dead on your next visit.

There are wifi models that can be used even when one is not at home, but still needs to have somebody empty the bin when full.

Not sure what the house cleaner uses to be homest.

The best advice I can offer, when heading to Soi 6 in search of a new vacuum, is to consult with the Mamasan first to find out which unit provides the best suction.

Either that or give Bob a ring if you want some intel on the best "alternative" models.

Looks great!

If it were real, if it was the battery would last 20 minutes

Looks interesting. Get it and let us know how it goes, I might get one. A bit cheaper at HomePro...

We have had a ECOVACS DEEBOT T30S COMBO for a few months. We have about 150 m^2 of tiled house to clean. Everything gets cleaned once daily except bathrooms. The hand held vacuum is used for touch-ups or messes made after the scheduled clean.

If you spend money on replacing the bits that wear out (dust bag, mop pads, main brush, side brush) as well as floor cleaning fluid, it's pretty good. I have to empty the dirty water bin and refill the clean one daily. It self empties and mops and has space for a battery-operated vacuum cleaner.

You'll need to periodically remove the bottom tray and clean it.

There is an app that allows you to set up "scenarios (set of rooms)" and schedules/ manual controls/ maps the house. Set sweeping speed/ thoroughness &/ or mopping speed/ thoroughness, sweep only, mop only, sweep & mop/ sweep then mop. Voice control is limited but adequate.

Only one firmware update since we bought it (hmm). It has a habit of finding/ pulling out cables, which it then uses to remove the mopping pads. Sometimes it will go over steps into bathrooms.

Ours seems to be able to do this, even though it is a circular shape. Neato's range of robots include some with a straight front edge. We had a D35 for 7 - 8 years until the logic board gave out for the second time. We also had an awful Electrolux robot cleaner that failed for as yet unknown reasons after only a year or so.

I had a Xiamoi robovac, the one that vacuums and wipes the floor with water. Iniitally the novelty of it will fill your heart with joy, and yes it does clean, provided your floors are not really dirty.

However, a couple of things I didn't like:

1) Even with a well designed model like the Xiaomi you had to do quite a production, put all the chairs on the table, remove the shoes from the hall way,  there could be nothing on the floor. Any cables they'll get caught. Doing that every time got a bit tiresome

2) The robovac will not do a deep clean, it works only if you use it regularly, which is a quite a bit of work see above. Not just that, but you also have to empty the dirt container, and fill the water tank.

It's cool but I decided to use a maid instead, she comes 4 times a week, and does a much better job than the vaccum, also does the dishes, cleans the bathroom etc, at 700 baht a pop.

So yes, it costs more, but I like it better, it's much less work for me than the robovac.

I had both a Xiaomi and a Deebot before. Meh. Now I got an Anker Eufy Omni C20. It's the proper business. Paid only 6.5K Baht for it on Lazada from the Anker Flagship store. You'll pay ÂŖ450 for the same unit in the UK.

If you pick one up during the upcoming "Lazada 9–9" sale in about 10 days from now, which is their biggest sale day of the year, you might even be able to get it for less than I paid.

And once you go Eufy... you'll never go back.
