BANGKOK - Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has jetted off to Singapore for a medical check-up, pledging to return for a crucial court decision on his controversial hospital stay on 9 September.

Thaksin, who remains a significant figure in Thai politics, departed from Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok on Thursday evening. Officials saw him on a private jet with several aides, and although he initially claimed to be heading for Hua Hin, documents revealed his true destination as Singapore.

Despite a past travel restriction, Thaksin presented a valid passport, which had been reactivated after resolving a lese majeste charge. He faced questioning, but his documents were found in order. Immigration officers wanted to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, due to his ongoing legal battles.

The billionaire, who returned to Thailand in August 2023 after over 15 years of self-imposed exile, was sentenced to eight years for abuse of power and conflict of interest, later reduced to one year by royal clemency. Immediately upon his return, he was detained but was transferred to Police General Hospital soon after, where he stayed until early 2024 under medical parole, reported the Bangkok Post.

This extended hospitalisation sparked criticism, including accusations of preferential treatment. Despite claims of serious illness, sceptics pointed to his rapid recovery afterrelease.

The Medical Council launched an investigation, leading to disciplinary actions against involved doctors. Opposition figures raised these issues during parliamentary discussions.

Thaksin's current trip has spurred speculation about his intentions, but sources close to him assert that it's solely for health reasons. He promises to be back before the court ruling, seeking to prove his commitment to face ongoing legal matters.

He was going to have it done in the police hospital where he was previously resurrected from deaths door, but his specialist doctors weren't available at the moment requiring him to reschedule his priorities.

Yes, this was interesting. Hopefully, there was an ATM in the MJets terminal at DMK.

During negotiations at DMK with the Thaksin clan - I think there were 4 or 5 others in the entourage - it was claimed that he was going to Singapore for a medical check-up and would return today.

It looks like plans changed mid-flight. Interesting.

Zoom in, they made a couple 360's, probably waiting for approvals from UAE?

Some Facebook post says so.

Requested change over Malaysian airspace. Did some circles waiting for permission?

Last time it was the Beijing Olympics.  Probably paid the same poobah as last time.

Anyway, it works.  And no one is being fooled.

Thaksin's Dubai Detour: Immigration Drama Sparks U-Turn

image.jpeg

Thaksin Shinawatra //File photo

Former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra took to social media, decrying an immigration hold-up in Bangkok that forced an unexpected diversion to Dubai instead of Singapore on Thursday night.

At 2.07am Friday on X.com, Thaksin detailed how he initially planned to reach Singapore for a health check-up with a trusted doctor. However, what should have been a routine departure turned into a travel headache, as immigration police reportedly held his flight for almost two hours, despite him having clearance to exit Thailand following a prior court case.

When airborne en route to Singapore, Thaksin’s pilot informed him they were unable to reach the Seletar Airport—Singapore's hub for private jets—before its 10 pm closure, as Singapore is one hour ahead of Thailand. Consequently, Thaksin instructed the pilot to redirect their flight to Dubai, where he could consult longstanding doctors and meet up with friends unseen for over two years.

However, the journey to Dubai was not without its challenges. Thaksin’s plane circled over Dubai for an extended period awaiting landing clearance before finally touching down.

Despite the hurdles, Thaksin assured followers he intends to return to Thailand by September 8, ahead of a Supreme Court hearing on September 9 concerning his previous extended stay at Police General Hospital rather than in prison between mid-2022 and early 2023.

Thaksin's unexpected detour underscores ongoing challenges for the former PM, who still faces scrutiny upon his return to Thailand. As the deadline approaches, eyes remain on how this saga will unfold.

Whatever his illness is, his cognitive imagination has remained intact.

Maybe he could not find a neck brace in Thailand or Singapore so he had to go to Dubai to get one...

So he lied to airport authorities by first claiming a trip to Hua Hin before departing for Singapore, the original destination.

Then he casts doubts on the pilots flight planning by suggesting they only noted that the destination airport would be closed while they were over Malaysia and at most only 20 minutes from that airport. He suggests that the pilots weren't aware of the 1-hour time difference between DMK and XSP.

He could have delayed his original departure to Singapore to this morning. Or, he could have just flown to Dubai directly and spared us this fairy tale.

Unfortunately, there will still be some people who believe that he's not a bad or dishonest man.

Its the thai way. As long as you can speak any excuse, however far-fetched, its ok and just a misunderstanding.

Anyway, it looks like Pheu Thai has not only lost it's rudder and main engine, but the Captain has now abandoned ship.

The story is too long to tell in just one post, so just the clef notes:

Thaksin is a pathological liar, a thief, a racist, a mass murderer (2 mass genocides under his tenure) and from the beginning of his political career right up to today, he has caused more political instability to Thailand then any other person.

He is also a scheming, self serving narcissist, who will switch sides at the drop of a hat just to stay in the picture, occasionally throwing his own family members under the bus, to save his own skin.

I now hold the personal opinion that his main goal in life now (after his own self preservation) is to destroy Thailand politicly, in the belief (in his mind only) that he will be accepted with open arms and become Thailand's saviour.

So, if he had already cleared Thailand's Immigration, why not just return to BKK and fly out to Singapore tomorrow???????????
