I think that a lot of our wives feel the same.

My red shirted wife has now changed to a very bright shade of yellow.

The story has changed somewhat since the early 2000s.

My wife never liked the whole Taksin family,

Why enough fuel for Dubai? Tak is too smart.

Quite, Singapore is approx just over 2 hours away by air, Dubai is over 6 hours away approx, so I know that aircraft carry extra fuel for emergencies, like diverting to an alternate etc, but 3 times the fuel???  VERY SUSPICIOUS!

I dont like taxsin , bcs he done a lot against foreigner in his term ( 0% policy for foreigners, visachanges, try cange restrict ownership of telcos to 24%,and his social order cmapin)

but thais like him, there is a clear reason when him was in power, he was the first tounderstand , and pump a lot of money into the rural areas and introduced the 30 baht hospital sheme .  by himself he takes atvantage of changing laws.

his sharesales later was tax free, compare to anything what media tells ( law in thai apply for everybody ,even he sold to foreigners -i  think the main reason for the hunt)

i tell you , all the same ,and always a stupid witch hunt

Maybe he received a tip off that his court case was going sour, also incoming govt might not be his cup of tea.

It's also possible his recent "reaching out" to Prayuth and suggesting that he could return as the next PM was his failed "Hail Mary" pass to try and keep his increasingly irrelevant circus in power. As far as I am aware, there was a wall of silence from the Privy Counselor on this offer.

If Thaksin returns for his next judicial bout or not is a matter of conjecture but as mentioned by others, his prior history of deceit makes his return unlikely. This guy will never fall on his sword for king and country, not while he has a pulse anyway.

Thaksin is a pathological liar, a thief, a racist, a mass murderer (2 mass genocides under his tenure) and from the beginning of his political career right up to today, he has caused more political instability to Thailand then any other person.

He is also a scheming, self serving narcissist, who will switch sides at the drop of a hat just to stay in the picture, occasionally throwing his own family members under the bus, to save his own skin.

I now hold the personal opinion that his main goal in life now (after his own self preservation) is to destroy Thailand politicly, in the belief (in his mind only) that he will be accepted with open arms and become Thailand's saviour.

It's possible. When his daughter called Cambodia's strongman Hun Sen, uncle, she really meant as prior to Thaksin's return to Thailand he and his whole family were guests at the Hun Sen mansion in Phnom Penh. Hun Sen blessed his return and said he was naming one of the rooms in the mansion after his daughter. When his sister ex PM Yingluck needed to go fast in exile, Hun Sen gave her a Cambodian passport.

This man has made a whorehouse out of Thai politics.

charade

(ʃərɑːd , US -reɪd )

Word forms: charades 1. countable noun [usually singular]

If you describe someone's actions as a charade, you mean that their actions are so obviously false that they do not convince anyone.

Well that’s one side of it. Anyone want to bother with the other side?

Makes no difference to me, couldn’t care less about Thai politics, but there’s always two sides to a story

Consequently, Thaksin instructed the pilot to redirect their flight to Dubai, where he could consult longstanding doctors and meet up with friends unseen for over two years.

So, if he had already cleared Thailand's Immigration, why not just return to BKK and fly out to Singapore tomorrow???????????

Yes, that was another option but according to flight trackers, the original departure and destination were "n/a" which may suggest some subterfuge with identity and intent. It's only after turning over Malaysia, circling over the Indian Ocean and the brief gap in flight track during which the new flight plan was filed, that the full flight information is revealed.

The man can't even lie straight in bed.

And... Here we go again, the charade continues..

In my limited experience flying as a passenger in executive jets, the tanks are always full at take off, regardless of the flight duration. This allows for emergencies, route changes but most significantly, refueling expenses in overseas destinations.

It is none of there business anyway.

Why would the plane take-off from Bangkok for a short flight to Singapore have enough fuel onboard to fly to Dubai with holding time in the air?

He's gone, hopefully.

Some major airlines hedge fuel cost while factoring projected landing weight. Fuel load out is usually Pilot's decision based on destination, weather, alternate airport location.

Brother's friend flies the Bombardier Global 7500 for Netjets in the states and loves it.  He says I could probably afford the fuel from the hangar to take off runway.

Thaskin is probably feeling it out with his connections.  If the outcome seems highly unfavorable then he would obviously choose a more favorable lifestyle somewhere else

Consider that deer culled.

It's no accident that he was aboard a Bombardier Global 7500 jet. It can very easily fly between Bangkok and Dubai. The aircraft advertised maximum range is of 7,700 nautical miles (14,260 kms) and the distance between Bangkok and Dubai is 3,000 nautical miles (5,500kms).

Sure, he used to buy his mother flowers.

It doesn't matter what good (if any) he's done, his actions and crimes cannot be justified.

Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Jimmy Saville, Al Capone and the Krays all did good things for their communities.

Should they be excused of their sins?

There have been a couple of answers to your question already offering reasons, from a particular stand point.

May I offer a different viewpoint?

First Thaksin is no white knight on a noble steed - galloping in to save Thailand. He is a business man ( very successful) with a somewhat dubious reputation, who went into politics; in itself not unusual in Thailand. Thai political figures are almost exclusively wealthy business men, whose wealth can be explained by their ( often dubious) business practices and who harness that wealth to the pursuit of power; or ex military, also wealthy (although that wealth often goes unexplained) who rely on their military connections to underpin power.

He went into politics, using his wealth. He built an extremely effective political party using that wealth. What was different about that machine was that it was broadly populist, offering policies and promises to the masses, as opposed to either vested interests (conventional politicians)or regional interests (the likes of Anutin or more accurately his father). That populism worked, and he was convincingly elected, and continued to be so until the rise of the "progressive movement" dented his ability to win a majority of seats or votes.

Of course the extent to which he followed through on his declared policies and promises ( game changing or mere scraps to the masses) are open to debate, but things like the basic universal health system and the foundations of a pension system would not have happened without him.

The real opposition - hatred -  of Thaksin stems from the fact that he broke the total hold of the conventional political classes on power. He let the populus into the game, and perhaps unwittingly, his own nemesis in the form of the " progressive movement".

Now if we look at the results of the last election, he didn't win it, the "progressive movement" won the largest share of votes and seats - they were disposed of- but he came a convincing second, and was allowed, for a time, to form a government. That government has been manoeuvred out, he has it seems been forced into exile; and one without popular support is being engineered. Nothing will come from the promised constitutional reforms or reviews - there will be no election. The conventional political classes are back in control and as ever their aim will be to stay there. This will result in political, and possible economic, stagnation, they can't really do anything, and they don't really want to change anything - they seek only to maintain the status quo, with themselves on top.

But Thaksin's popularity remains considerable, and combined with that of the "progressive movement" promises more turmoil. The game is far from over.

It's highly likely that if he was tipped off, he might be facing time, or he's coming back repaired with a new neck brace.

I wouldn’t know.

As I understood it, a poster innocently asked what the big deal is with Thaksin.

He got a synopsis of one guys view of Thaksin, one that is shared by many people for sure.

There are others that have a different view. I specifically made it clear that I am agnostic when it comes to Thai politics, but in the interest of answering the original innocent question, I wondered whether anyone would put the other side to what is a polarizing figuring Thailand.

So don’t include me in any never ending debate about Thaksin, I’m not interested.

Maybe the original poster should just google Thaksin. Both sides of the story are there and then he can make up his own mind what he thinks.

I suspect this is going to be a "two neck-brace" job and maybe head bandage eye patch deal.  Billionaires, bless 'em, such scalliwags.

And is that where the Bermuda Triangle is?  strange things happen to planes out there, I'm just asking questions, it's science

yes yes I know that's not where it is

Shouldn't that read "In my limited experience dreaming about flying as a passenger in executive jets" or did they once offer private jets out to the field airstrips when the contracts on the oil patch were more lucrative?
