Heard from the grapevine that Singapore doesn’t want to host him.
The last time he was in exile his plane made a stop in Singapore apparently for refueling but was seen dining with Singapore’s high level officials. That incident drew the ire with the then Thai junta.

fake story..

I would say the odds are quite high he is not coming back to Thailand for a looong time.

Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has jetted off to Singapore for a medical check-up, pledging to return for a crucial court decision on his controversial hospital stay on 9 September.

I'd say his pledge is worth less than a 25 satang coin, but we'll see in due time.

I'm sure his doctors in Dubai will be able to make some shocking discoveries about his health that require urgent treatment.

Despite the hurdles, Thaksin assured followers he intends to return to Thailand by September 8, ahead of a Supreme Court hearing on September 9 concerning his previous extended stay at Police General Hospital rather than in prison between mid-2022 and early 2023.

Caveat: Subject to the ‘professional medical’ advisability of making the return journey.

Better doctors/hospitals in Singapore.  And as far as we are concerned private care isn't cheaper in Thailand anymore. So better value for money in any case.

but, but,    the doctors at the Police Gen Hospital seemed to have pulled off miracle treatment...

Well, if he promised then it must be true, right?

Everyone can relax now, go ahead and sleep soundly, because if Thaksin said he’ll be there on the 8th at 8 AM, he will.

Former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra took to social media, decrying an immigration hold-up in Bangkok that forced an unexpected diversion to Dubai instead of Singapore on Thursday night.

If he's done a bunk to Dubai to dodge the court ruling, they should freeze all his assets, money, property...sell it and share it out to the poor of the nation that said he cared so much about.

Bangkok Post:

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, at 2.07am, Thaksin wrote that he earlier intended to visit Singapore for a checkup with a doctor who had treated him before. During the flight to Singapore, his pilot told him that his plane could not reach Singapore’s Seletar airport for private jets in time because it closed at 10pm and Singapore time was one hour ahead of Thailand time, Thaksin wrote.

Therefore, he instructed his pilot to divert to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

He obviously had full tank. 😂

Quite, Singapore is approx just over 2 hours away by air, Dubai is over 6 hours away approx, so I know that aircraft carry extra fuel for emergencies, like diverting to an alternate etc, but 3 times the fuel???  VERY SUSPICIOUS!

He cleared immigration, so he was free to go anywhere he was wanted..

Only about 8 hours behind the actual news of what's going... Wonder how much it cost him to be released by the immigration police at Don Muang?

With respect, nothing. He is a free man able to travel Internationally like any of us!

Reference The Nation:-

Sources from the judiciary have stated that when the Criminal Court acquitted Thaksin in the lese-majesty case without ordering detention during the appeal, the court's conditions related to his case no longer applied. This means that he is now free to travel abroad. Thaksin's lawyer can also request the return of documents related to his international travel that were previously held by the court. (e.g. passport)

Hopefully he will take his whole <deleted> family and stay in Dubai

He obviously knows that the game is up. His rival Anutin is about to become Prime Minister and he will be effectively out of power. The establishment will have a royalist conservative at the helm and no longer need him, as envisaged, as a bulwark against the progressive movement . Cue him been found guilty of lying about his illness and sent to prison. He was probably tipped off that the decision is going to be unfavourable.

BANGKOK - Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has jetted off to Singapore for a medical check-up, pledging to return for a crucial court decision on his controversial hospital stay on 9 September.

Thaksin, who remains a significant figure in Thai politics, departed from Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok on Thursday evening. Officials saw him on a private jet with several aides, and although he initially claimed to be heading for Hua Hin, documents revealed his true destination as Singapore.

Despite a past travel restriction, Thaksin presented a valid passport, which had been reactivated after resolving a lese majeste charge. He faced questioning, but his documents were found in order. Immigration officers wanted to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, due to his ongoing legal battles.

The billionaire, who returned to Thailand in August 2023 after over 15 years of self-imposed exile, was sentenced to eight years for abuse of power and conflict of interest, later reduced to one year by royal clemency. Immediately upon his return, he was detained but was transferred to Police General Hospital soon after, where he stayed until early 2024 under medical parole, reported the Bangkok Post.

This extended hospitalisation sparked criticism, including accusations of preferential treatment. Despite claims of serious illness, sceptics pointed to his rapid recovery afterrelease.

The Medical Council launched an investigation, leading to disciplinary actions against involved doctors. Opposition figures raised these issues during parliamentary discussions.

Thaksin's current trip has spurred speculation about his intentions, but sources close to him assert that it's solely for health reasons. He promises to be back before the court ruling, seeking to prove his commitment to face ongoing legal matters.

Please keep up, he's in Dubai,

Simplicity of minds by justice and immigration. Why let the man go, as he could be luxury hospitalized in Thailand. Now he had to go to Singapore?. Hope they never let him enter Thailand again. Kick the rest of his family out too

Interesting story about all this in Reuters. But it says Thaksin did not plan to see doctors in Singapore. That his plan was to go to Dubai to see doctors. His case about his hospital stay during his prison term is set to have verdict Tuesday. So he may just wait there for the verdict and if he wins he will return, if not he will stay in Dubai until another deal can be made allowing his return without any prison time.

My crystal ball says that after his medical check up his doctors will place him on a "no fly" list as it will be far too risky for him to fly in the near future! Alas he may not make it back in time for the court date. Bad luck....FYI The immigration staff at DM that let him go are now making plans for their early retirements.

He’s free to go where he likes. His medical reasons are nobodies business.
