Expats living with high season

Featured Replies

My Airbnb is up here at Arcadia international ,

I'm thinking it's quiet season right now and everything is great

.but if I moved here retired here I would not only have to.put up with crowds in my street but in the Condo  building too,  full of visitors holidaymakers etc  having Xmas parties etc noise etc

As an expat do you live different during the high season

Do you still so everything normal as you would do during low season ?

Do you still go out much during high season ??

What's your condo building like during high season ?

Great reply to an absolute nonsense post, and while at it, tell me how a floor mopper who is not yet retired can afford to live in Thailand ? How can he pay for the visa fees? I also lived in Thailand

The floor mopping might be a joke. He might be an accountant, for all we know.    You're just jealous because you had to move back home and some people are still able to enjoy Thailand.

Ah, the sweet poison of a quiet street. You found this place, this little slice of heaven called Arcadia, a perfect hideout from the world's cheap noise. The sun beats down, the air hangs still, and you think you've finally outsmarted the hustle. You're dreaming of retirement, of endless days where the biggest problem is which book to read by the pool.
But every paradise has its serpent, and this one wears a Hawaiian shirt. You're living a temporary quiet, a low-season mirage. You look out your window and see a world that's just a whisper away from going mad. You start to see the signs: the empty hotel lobbies, the vacant patios. It's the calm before the storm. A storm of tourists, a tidal wave of partygoers, all coming to turn your peaceful retreat into a temporary monument to chaos.
You're a detective in your own home, piecing together the grim future. The tell-tale signs are everywhere. That quiet condo building of yours? Soon it'll be a high-rise carnival, full of strangers who think that "vacation" means "no rules." The calm streets? They'll be a human river, flowing with selfie sticks and bad fashion.
You think you've escaped the rat race, but you're just a character in a bad B-movie. The joke's on you, pal. This quiet season? It's just a long, boring commercial for the main feature—a feature called "Chaos." And you've got a front-row seat.

Not a fan of that Arcadia location although you can probably get some good deals there in low season.  Looks very central on a map, but it's actually not very convenient to get anywhere from there with nothing of any interest nearby.  I would definitely recommend getting a scooter if staying there.    I don't think that location gets much of a sea breeze being at the bottom of a hill that separates it from the ocean.  I am also guessing the surrounding roads flood every time it rains.

Pattaya is a completely different beast in high season compared to low season.  A lot of expats I know try go somewhere else or just lay low at that time.  It's the worst time to be there for everything else besides the weather imo.  Anyone currently living there full time, who has spent more than one or two high seasons there, will probably agree.  If you live on the dark side then you won't notice it as much.  Probably one of the reasons a lot of expats choose to live there instead.

Great reply to an absolute nonsense post, and while at it, tell me how a floor mopper who is not yet retired can afford to live in Thailand ? How can he pay for the visa fees? I also lived in Thailand for years, like yourself. I moved back to my country. And I had a good business, which I sold after moving to Thailand. I don't believe any word he says.

Which Arcadia?

How do you manage meals at that location? There's not much on that street.

Those resort type rooms are a nasty walk out to the main street each time you want a meal, unless you are a taxi guy or have a motorbike. I never figured out how people managed that, I guess they have motorbikes or call the taxi on the app. I was walking out each time for lunch at VT 2B. By the time I got back to the room is was almost dinner time.

Hi Jim. Jim Tripper. Could be wrong.  But I concur that location you would need a motorbike for sure.

I have wondered the same thing though as I tend to be here in low season only. I suppose you can look at how they run the place and if security and management work well and how they police the month limit i.e. less noise and people if it's a minimum of a month. Also the layout of the apartments - if all around a pool or something could be higher risk.

Copacabana for example has face recognition to keep out short stayers, good security, well run gym and pools and sauna. Cheap for a month in low season for tourists who like a longer holiday. Better bang for your buck than hotels. Not sure how expensive in high season or for staying long periods.

Yes, it's Jim. Thanks for remembering.

The high season madness is mostly around Central Pattaya. Here in Jomtien there is hardly any change. The weather is better of course so you can go out more, the beach, walks etc.

PS Arcadia is the worst place to stay

I believe there are about 4 different Arcadia Condo projects..are you talking about all of them, or one in particular, and why?

Well if I haven't retired it means I'm still earning money right so your asking how I can afford it .....I'm still working, that answers your own question sweetheart

You sure Songkran isn't worse than December peak season? Pattaya is horrible during Songkran (unless you like that kind of thing).

I never really understood the high season.  It all seems the same year round to me just with more rain low season.

Crowds in places like Pattaya about the same year round.

Agreed. There’s not much difference to us in Wongamat except it can be difficult to get a Bolt at times during High Season.

No.

Have you forgotten you hate Pattaya?

What has changed since you wrote this last week about Pattaya "Absolutely rude low class that's all see here this trip and I won't be back"?

You often write you are bored in Pattaya. Why retire in a place you dislike?

Maybe the OP is also rude and low class, and likes to mix with his fellow bogans.

Oh don't be racist against Australians !

High season has definitely been getting more dangerous the last 3 years, I barely go out except between the hours of 5-6am and if I do it's in a tank for safety.

I found that amusing.

For the benefit of those that may think you are being serious, you might wish to put a smiley emoticon after your post  -   just for clarification.

Oh view talay 2B ?

I remember it well I was imprisoned in there for a few weeks once.

Yes from the entrance door to the street is around 5-8 minutes walk plus dodging the motorbikes speeding past you

Plus another 10-15 minutes to a decent restaurant cluster. So we are talking about 15 minutes each way.

The VT 5's up the street are even worse. There is that expensive grocery store nearby but very few everyday restaurants.

Most of these resort type buildings are like that. They are not made for people walking in and out, but more like an enclosure where a family would stay for a week and not care how far out things are. Everybody sees the cheap room and thinks it's great. Actually living there is a different story (unless you like driving everywhere or eating at the 7-11, or are some eternal optimist who just denies any negative which seems to be common here). You could also take the baht bus each time (at the street) I suppose, but it would get old for me doing that at each meal or carrying groceries on it regularly.

No wonder the rooms are so cheap, your driving everywhere or sacrificing a couple hours a day walking down the long driveway.

Is Arcadia any better? Looks like that same sort of setup to me.

I would never live long-term in a building that rented short-term apartments, like The Base or Central Sea.

Yes Arcadia is Airbnb investors it seems

I don't think many expats live there it's all investors or renters
