  • Same song over and over again and again. The Government don't want to educate people more than now, as when the Thai people are being educated they will loose control. Same as in Rome give the people

  • The problem here in Thailand is high school because it's a distaster of mind-washing nonsense. Elementary school is average and the universities are okay... not their fault generally. It's high school

  • Problem in Thailand is they are taught what to think, not how to think.

They don't even teach proper sex education.

I'm constantly educating my female friends, they know very little about their bodies and how they can be affected by STI's

I'm amazed by the young women (17yo to early 20's) I meet, their parents send them to work in Pattaya and could not careless about their sexual health.

No; no, Farang misunderstand...Thai Family send Daughter to work in Factory and send money back to Family  !

What is your problem?

I think you are wrong. My elementary kids get sent home to do homework that they have not even been taught about. Even my KG child has this done to him. My children, which are quite intelligent, struggle to understand what their Thai teacher teaches and their teachers do not explain further how to do their math problems correctly. Instead they use rote learning and question for more information is not accepted in the classroom or privately. The teachers think understanding is not needed. Last year I had a chat with the director of their school.. He flat out told me the school does not care if the children know or understand the work they are given to do. All that matters is they pass their test. Luckily he was replaced this year with a new director however, I think this attitude is a nationwide problem.

The school system is not set up to learn. It is set up to copy and do without knowing or understanding what you do. Everyone passes their grade levels so it is not based on knowledge or performance or even comprehension.

I wonder how we were able to get these very intelligent Thai people at work.

Well that’s certainly an uneducated appreciation of what AI is about….

Well, now we have Uni students writing their essays and final exams using AI now, that how bad it has become.

I am not drinking and talking about sex with children.

One thing missing is the concept of competition. When I was at university the competition was fierce for places but it doesn't really seem to be a big thing here. Maybe it is due to little competition once they leave the education system I don't know.

I have over 10 years of first-hand experience within the university system here. The kind of political nonsense that goes on in the administration is mind-boggling! Some of them might actually think they are doing the right thing, but the professors are fighting each other incessantly. It's truly amazing anything gets accomplished at all. The sort of thing that passes for education is a complete joke on many levels. Students cheating on tests are often not punished AT ALL. Bribery, thankfully, seems to be less than in previous years. Keeping your university rank by whatever means possible is sometimes the political task at hand and there are pushes for various things to do that, which are often done by deception, lying, cheating, etc. I remember one professor who replied to me, when I asked him how on earth he can stand dealing with such a large number of students who don't care at all, don't study, fail exams, don't do homework, eat and sleep in class, etc, etc, etc.... he responded to me, exasperated - What can I do!??? If I fail them, I'll get in trouble! He was candid and said that in fact probably 75% or more of the class he was teaching at the time, should be failed! By the way, this is at a university that everyone in Thailand knows, ranking in the top 5. And the international programs are sometimes the worst, with programs thrown together in order to bring money into the department/faculty. Standards are very low for entrance in many cases and waived in many cases. The hideousness of what goes on in the universities is beyond the pale. There are, on the other hand, some professors who definitely are attempting to do well and are well qualified. But they are so often stymied by the old guard. One of them told me that they just have to wait until those in the lead age out and they hope they can bring in change. They are frustrated and sad, stuck in their predicament. A good number of these profs have excellent education from Europe, the US, Australia, etc. They've seen and experienced good education. They desire to produce it here. The system with the massively proud and corrupt power-holders is a problem, to say the least. It is such a huge mess. It's amazing anyone tries at all.

You make a good point... In that even if the Ministry of Education makes changes to school procedures or policies. The individual school directors have the option to maintain what they were doing without making the changes. Kind of like the new haircut rules the ministry recently made. Whereas the children do not need their haircut made short. The same rule that was left to enforce or ignore with eac school. Only things like books used and teaching religion or government nonsense it strictly enforced.

No Thai student is left behind, no one fails......a solution is provided for every student to pass exams

From make-up tests to .......multiple-choice tests (with teacher's assisting)

There in lies one of the major problems.........

Can I get a job at your school? I'll pay the school to work there.🤣

These poor results have been documented since 2000 when the first OECD PISA testing was done.

What is worse is that these tests only reflect the students that are still in school when testing is done...and only 54.8% of students who begin primary school eventually complete upper secondary (Mattayom 6). School drop-outs are not tested so it can be assumed that the OECD PISA test scores overstate the ability of all Thai youth.

It's all in the "anthem" Fish in the sea, rice in the fields...why bother? School keeps the kids out of the house for 12 years, allowing Mum to gossip with the neighbours Dad to go to work and drink Loa Cow and maybe have a little "afternoon delight". Older sister is looking after her new baby!

Where's the problem?

How many boys working on the ice truck need to read?

Ironically yesterday was World Literacy Day but I despair that students in Thailand will learn to write English proper like wat I can.

Again, I repeat what I have said, on numerous occasions, the current low education standards suits the rich, the government, and the military, consequently nothing will change.

Thailand’s literacy rate stands at 94.1%

And how many of those "literate" Thais can sign their name, but cannot understand what they are signing? Many "literate" Thais are functionally illiterate, that has been the subject of other studies.

Thick as pig <deleted>e, from the top to bottom. 🤡🤡👺

That reminds me of my former girlfriend.
Once, just for the fun of it, I asked her:
“How many 1‑baht coins would you need for a 20‑baht note?”

Her reply, in all seriousness:
“I’m terribly sorry, I wouldn’t know. Mathematics was never really my strength at school.😂

I do not believe the government is ready to make this change, but all scores would improve if Thailand adopts one thing the Philippines already does. Once children enter the school system, all teaching is done in English.  Studies have shown that being bilingual helps with math skills. My Thai niece and nephew both grew up in school learning English. My friends son also, all three went on to university, and are smart and great kids. Start now, and by 2037 all kids will be graduating bilingual.

Same as in Rome give the people bread and games, but keep them stupid or they will see the mess the country is in and the greed of the wealthy. People's Party try to change thingd, and how much effort is made to prevent them from being in the Government.

I don't think my nephew lost education; he builds robots for hospitals and travels all over the world.

hmm… the Thai no-education system is more correct  but TIT ?

I said elementary school is average, and that is hardly a ringing endorsement when we are talking about the general levels here.

As with all things, it depends on what school/uni you are talking about... some are okay, some average, and some useless. I was attempting to make a neutral general statement... however, if your kids school is like that, then so be it and I guess that's true for that school.
