A man wielding a knife took a customer hostage during a gold shop robbery in Saraburi, Thailand, and escaped on a motorcycle with stolen jewelry. The robbery occurred on September 17 at Por Udomsuk gold shop in Ban Mo district. Police are conducting a manhunt for the suspect, who fled towards Ayutthaya province.

Security footage shows the suspect, described as 30 to 40 years old, arriving on a motorcycle with no license plate. Disguised with a helmet and mask, he forced entry and seized a female customer, 57-year-old Sureenut Buasri. The robber held a knife to her waist, demanding gold from shop owner Nanthawan Piamkhiew, who complied by handing over 15 gold necklaces valued at 240,000 baht.

Sureenut, traumatized but unharmed, had just pawned a ring to cover her grandson’s medical costs. She recounted fearing for her life during the ordeal. The suspect mentioned needing money to settle gambling debts, according to the police. This gold shop had been robbed two months prior, during which a different man was apprehended.

Authorities are examining video evidence to apprehend the current perpetrator. This incident follows a similar robbery on August 14, where a man stole over 8 million baht in gold from a shop in Samut Prakan, disguised as a delivery rider.

  • A robber held a woman hostage in a Saraburi gold shop and stole jewelry worth 240,000 baht.

A lot of gold shops have auto locking doors. Entry can only be gained when the staff buzz you in. Would have been useful in this situation.

but gotta love the old lady who continues picking at her food after the robber fled. Phlegmatic or what!

She was glad the robber was not given much gold given that there are still lots of gold in the showcase. Robber just took what he needs like subsistence farming . He could have taken more.
