Thailand has launched a nationwide security initiative using advanced technology to enhance tourist safety and draw two million Chinese visitors in the coming months. The move comes as the High Season approaches, with authorities aiming to restore Chinese arrivals to pre-pandemic levels while addressing growing safety concerns.

The initiative was announced during an inter-agency meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Captain Thammanat Prompao at the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Tourism and Sports Minister Atthakorn Sirilatthayakorn confirmed his ministry’s full support for the measures, emphasising that while Thai-Chinese relations remain important, public safety will remain the top priority.

A central feature of the plan is the introduction of an artificial intelligence system known as AI Detect, developed for the Tourist Police. This facial-recognition tool will scan crowded tourist areas and cross-reference individuals with national arrest warrants. Officers have been instructed to use the system to monitor high-risk individuals or those displaying suspicious behaviour.

To support visitors, the Tourist Police are expanding frontline services. The 1155 Emergency Hotline will be operational around the clock throughout the High Season. In addition, the Thailand Tourist Police app has been launched in eight languages, including Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean and Russian, enabling tourists to report incidents, request information or send emergency alerts directly to police centres.

Authorities have also ordered a statistical review of tourist-related crimes. The findings will be used to designate official safe zones across Thailand, with results made public to strengthen visitor confidence. These efforts will be coordinated by the Department of Tourism, Tourist Police Command, Tourist Assistance Centre and the Tourist Assistance Coordination Centre (TAC).

In total, 274 officers will be deployed across 79 key locations to manage increased tourism activity. Preparations will also support logistics for the upcoming SEA Games, scheduled during the High Season, when visitor numbers are expected to rise sharply.

With the combined use of AI technology, enhanced policing and improved tourist support services, Thailand aims to reassure international visitors and secure a strong return of Chinese tourists in the months ahead.

Key Takeaways

• Thailand has launched AI Detect facial recognition to monitor safety in tourist hotspots.

• The Tourist Police hotline and app will provide round-the-clock multilingual support.

• 274 officers will be stationed at 79 locations to assist with tourism and SEA Games logistics.

  • Yeah, I always check to see what a country's AI Detect status is before visiting. It's a deal breaker for me if they don't use it.

  • tourists safety, but it is all about crime... Most tourists don't come to Thailand to commit crimes, but to have a nice holiday. And the crimes that occur are mostly the Thai citizens who are involved

So this is just a fake feel good moment for already non working RTP, than a feel good program for the tourists

Easier to come up with this non-sense then it is to come up with a real vision for the future. What does thailand even want? Do they want rich people, backpackers, digital nomads, chinese tours, old westerners, a billion indians, russian oligarchs, russian criminals, africans, etc? They think they can cater to everyone instead of making the difficult trade-offs.

He's always trying to import things🙄

"...using advanced technology to enhance tourist safety and draw two million Chinese visitors in the coming months."

From which orifice did they pull the two million visitors numbers from? They just blurt out any old number they think the boss would like in their unreal releases.

Enhance tourist safety by having cops out on the beat, by having police in police cars stopping drivers for moving violations and/or drunk driving. Have real licensing inspections of tourist facilities to minimize dying from electrocution, faulty elevators, DDT spraying of rooms.... things like that

Has anybody here rang 1155 to see what help is here? Does it work?

When did he become a Deputy Prime Minister and more to the point why would he be chairing this meeting since he is a Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives........

That's what I always look for when selecting a destination for my family holiday......"designated official safe zones."

As a tourist, this would deter me from visiting Thailand. Now that I am here and getting I hope I won't live till 90, the future is too bleak.

Thammanat Prompao, a 60-year-old political heavyweight in Thailand, has certainly come a long way from his days as a shadowy figure entangled in multiple scandals.

A man for all seasons

He is part of the very corrupt Bhumjaithai Party, led by Anutin Charnvirakul. These snakes will say anything to make money.

Forget the nonsense of AI .

Reduce visa back to 30 days to ensure idiots are here on holidays, and not staying long term.

IF they want to stay longer, ensure you have proper checks and balances.

For long term stays ensure you request a criminal record check from the relevent authoirty in that country.

Stop being soft on crime because you don't want to turn away tourists - you are doing the reverse by actually increasing more crime.

funny - AI  will tell Chinese tourists  to go anywhere but Thailand,  it will advise them to go somewhere else were they are not going to be exploited and ####ed over

like Vietnam

AI probably has more intelligence than TAT, but that is no way a major achievement, the lack of brain cells in the powers that be, is truly astounding, one minute they are freezing peoples bank accounts due to the huge amount of Chinese criminals laundering money, next minute they are bending over backwards to welcome them in 🤣🤣🤣

Yet a lot of people arrested for running scams , call centres etc seem to be Chinese .

Go figure 🙈

This might backfire on the government because there will probably be a lot criminals that get caught by ALY and be deportedIf that was the case then that would scare the Chinese tourists and they won't come to Thailand at all.

Yes it works, but having called that number a few times, not once did anybody answer the  phone..

There are obviously two kinds of Chinese people in Southeast Asia, normal middle class people who want a nice holiday and criminal people involved in this unbelievably criminal enterprise of the scam centers. They are not to be confused.

Does TAT have any concept of what's happening in China at the moment, and why tourism numbers are down
