British Teen Vanishes in Thailand Near Myanmar Border

The search for a 19-year-old British youth, Lawrence Stallard Honour, is intensifying after his mysterious disappearance from Pattaya on September 26. Concerns grow as it emerges he may have been lured to work for a criminal call centre. With a failed attempt to cross from Kanchanaburi’s Three Pagodas Pass to Myanmar, local authorities are on high alert.

The situation escalated when Honour’s mother, Ms. Kunnara Fatakova, filed a missing person report at Pattaya City police station. Surveillance footage showed Lawrence at a resort in Ban Dan Chedi Sam Ong on September 27, where he charged his phone before leaving. Evidence suggests he tried crossing into Myanmar, stopped by officers for lacking permission, before slipping away.

The incident has alarmed Kanchanaburi officials, particularly Governor Athisan Intra, who ordered a thorough investigation. Surveillance tapes are being reviewed as Sangkhlaburi District Chief, Suriyasak Muean-Uam, tracks Honour’s movements. Meanwhile, an immigration officer disclosed that Honour, constantly on his phone, attempted to crawl through a border fence.

Honour’s mother described him as quiet but intelligent, with significant computer skills—a potential target for call centre gangs. Reports now indicate Honour hitchhiked to Sangkhlaburi, aided by a teacher now under investigation for additional insights into the youth’s whereabouts.

Efforts continue to locate Honour, with authorities urging anyone with information to contact emergency services, his mother at 087-063-2177, or the Sangkhlaburi police station at 034595300. The case raises concerns about cross-border criminal networks and the vulnerability of young travellers.

Key Takeaways:

  • British youth Lawrence Honour, missing from Pattaya, last seen in Kanchanaburi.
  • Authorities suspect he might have been lured into working for a call centre gang in Myanmar.
  • Urgent public appeals are ongoing to locate Honour and prevent potential exploitation.

i feel bad for his parents. But the man is 19 and an adult albeit a stupid one.

It amazes me how people get themselves into these situations, the 23 year old yesterday, and now a 19 year old getting themselves into situations that they shouldnt be in, it seems that common sense is an uncommon thing these days......

Sometimes you must thin the herd.

One thing is for sure, he knew he was doing something illegal by crossing into Myanmar after being refused entry due to not having the correct documents. It suggests that greed and not physical coercion was the motivating factor for his actions.

considering he is an IT guy, crawling under a border fence sounds distinctly low tech.

As he failed to crawl under the fence, perhaps not low enough?

Cherchez la femme?

Maybe he met a Burmese lady in one of those "family friendly" beer bars in Pattaya? Lady "goes to visit sick mother" (aka going back to boyfriend with her earnings) boy tries to follow the lady?

In fact there you don't need to crawl!!! In between the duty free shops, on the border line, there is open gaps in between where I have seen Burmese walk in with back packs openly ffs!!

Common sense is like deodorant, the people who need it most, never use it.

A lot of people do a lot of stupid things at age 19.

Most come away ok and sit and tell their stupid escapade stories in bars at age 70.  Some got incredibly lucky to survive their stupidity.  I am one of them and know many many others that did a lot of dumb stupid reckless things but a little good luck came my way and I lived for another day.

Some are quick to criticize and jump to all sorts of conclusions as to what this one did or didn't do and where he may be now.

Hoping he turns up ok.

It sounds like an import from the ex-Soviet Union.

He'll have a hell of a story to tell when he gets free in 5-10 years.

But seriously, what could possibly entice someone to try to crawl through a border fence and break into Myanmar.

We can all do stupid things at that age, but that is beyond stupid.

And his poor ma must be shook learning what he's up to.

and whilst not being punished for attempting to crawl thru a fence - i think the imm chief knows someone on his side is helping people cross - and it aint stopping anytime soon. how long before tunnels start getting dug - like mexico

When I was in my teens, I bought a car, and the handbook showed me how to check spark plugs (if any of the cylinders were’t firing ) advance or retard the ignition timing, amongst other things

nowadays, it tells them,

DON’T DRINK THE ENGINE  FLUIDS

Given the timinig, age, and nationality, I wouldn't be surprised if he's somehow related to the other UK lad getting caught with the suitcase full of drugs the other day. Maybe he's an accomplice trying to run away before getting caught? It would make very little sense that an English speaker who's truly computer saavy would voluntarily seek work in Myanmar and try to smuggle himself across the border to do it. Gotta be more to the story.

Were married 4 months before my 30th birthday thinking I knew what I were doing and the future planned.

Separated aged 52 thinking WTF have I done, losing everything, never done wrong, she cheated and had abortions.

Aged 56 recovered financially and built a retirement home via a Thai company.

Retired at 59 and 4 months saying "Wish I could turn the clock back"!!

Now 70, at peace with myself realising that guys never grow out of anything, learn by mistakes not to repeat same...

This has to be the quote of the week!

Well done for making me dribble coffee down my chin!

I think we can all agree he knew what he is doing as well prepared to get through the border fence

Stupid thing to do at his age

Will suffer the Consequences when caught 😱

I'm hoping that he turns up somewhere soon in Thailand.  Hopefully he was unsuccessful at entering Myanmar if he tried more than once.  I've heard that the working conditions there are not very good.

The difference between these youngsters & us oldies is that, because of modern technology, the temptations and opportunities are now way beyond anything we faced at that age.

I hope they find him soon, for his mum and family we pray for a save return. 19yrs is not that old, likely & typically age you leave 6th form or college. God speed.

Obviously in his childish imagination his interpretation of how his fantasy would play out severely lacked comprehension of the reality of his action, and the risk to himself personally and the panic and worry for his mother and family. Maybe he was coerced,  maybe not, but it demonstrates another example of stupidity of a young naive guy.

Hope it ends well.

More likely the scenario, this Burmese girls are real lookers, and have curves as well, not the little boy bodies most of the Thai girls have.
