  • SAnd wondering why tourists don't come in anymore.. It is not the 300 THB entrance fee but everything... no vaping allowed, limited alcohol buy/sales hours, double standards, scamming, double pricing,

I wish they'd stop  calling it a tourist tax.  It's a tax on all non-Thai people entering the country, and that includes those who work or are retired here.

  • They have, either increase the price or Tax them, normal Thai logic

So they plan on making visitors pay for the infrastructure that should be there in the first place as a way of attracting visitors? And they plan on making ME pay for the insurance of people who don't bother insuring themselves?

In a nutshell, you have it!!!☺️

Thai Logic: To implement a tourism tax will increase the number of tourists coming to Thailand.

If they did the smart thing and just buried it in the air ticket prices, nobody would even notice.  And those that did pay attention to stuff like that would still see that the Thai taxes on airline tickets are still a lot lower than the taxes on the Europe or US side.

And I get a lot of guff for saying this, but I'm not sure they'd miss the tourists that would change their international travel plans for $8.50.

Not at all she has loads, just had enough of Thailand,

Fair enuff. So the B300 had nothing to do with her decision.🙃🙃

Im sure it will drive many people away or not return, I do know someone right now she has just gone back to BKK she has 2 weeks left on her ticket, and she's never coming back to Thailand,

Why not?

Is it not tax deductible?

And to increase sexual health they will institute a ฿ 1000 condom tax.

They could definitely do that. Now that sex once or twice a week is just enough for me...

Another nail in the coffin,

The coffin will soon be nailed firmly down

Just do it already!  All this endless talk about what they are planning to do, no matter what the topic.  Talk ,talk, talk.  Planning to do this.  Thinking about doing that.  Pondering about doing this.  Expecting to do that.  Hoping to do this.  Discussing about doing that.  Now we have a new one--vowing to do this.  Stop talking and just do it.

Tourism is declining, Thais are struggling.. Let's see how we can solve this.. Hmm.. I know! Let's tax the visitors more! What a brilliant idea!!

Where do they find these morons?

The brain work of 1mbec1les. Hotels empty, buses empty, restaurants empty and these goons want to impose a landing tax.

It is not the 300 Baht, it is all about the psychological damage of Thailand's image; Thailand's arrogant looking-down on those tourists.

Keep on killing the goose which laid the golden eggs. This country is run by madness for decades and without stop down the abyss.

If 300 baht – about $10 – entry tourist tax is a huge problem for a tourist, then Thailand is probably already too expensive to visit; and there would have been a lot less discussion, if it instead was the airport passenger fee that was increased...:whistling:

It should also be technical possible to find a solution for long-stayers that are travelling abroad – i.e. non-tourists with non-immigrant visa – especially now where you need to do an electronic registration before entry.

300 baht tourist tax will not deter people coming to Thailand

But the cost of air flights hotels and prices in general food ect could   🤔

We are a family of 5 flying in and out, Thailand already looks expensive now, on top of this it will be an additional 3000 baht for tourist tax. As well as high landing fees, dual pricing, we’ll have to find another way.

I don't think they intend to ding you again on the way out.

First they say the B300 Tourism Tax will negatively affect tourism.
Then they say tourist numbers are down.
Then they say, "Minister Vows to Impose Long-Delayed B300 Tourism Tax."

Hummm  🤔

Edit:  I read once that Thailand pays out about 400 million baht a year to hospitals to reimburse them for tourists that can't (or won't) pay for their emergency medical treatment.

The few times that I went to a hospital in Thailand, I was escorted to registration, the doctor, and, finally, the cashier. How emergency-treatment patients could circumvent that, is not understandable. And even if, 400 million baht is what, a measly 12 million dollars? Do Thais even realise how they make themselves the laughing stock of the world by complaining about such peanuts (esp. considering the huge income and benefits they reap from tens of millions of tourists each year)?

Also, I wonder, how much of those 400 million baht was due to double and triple overpricing of foreign tourists, e.g. giving out medicines like paracetamol at prices several times of what they cost at a pharmacy around the corner, so the actual 'damage' is probably a low million-dollar amount. Something no other government would loudly complain about...

As I see it, it is just another scheme to get out of international tourists as much money in as short a time as possible, just to fill the pockets of the ruling class and politicians... Good luck, Thailand with that!

Personally I think it's a good idea.

Lots of them don't have the money.  Or insurance.  You can't get money out of someone who just doesn't have it.

You could make this up.visitor number are down and what do  this lot do impose an additional tax on them. Good thinking Batman.

So they just let them walk away?

The Thais do it all the time; business is bad, so just double prices, or invent new fees... Business sense of 3-year-olds!

Two things they need to do and make clear to everyone. Firstly, they need to say clearly how the average tourist will benefit... like through basic accident cover at any government hospital etc. Secondly, probably best to bury it in the flight ticket cost, so the optics aren't bad if you have to pay a tax as soon as you land.

People are already taxed to the hilt,

Could you please give more details and the amounts?

What are all the taxes a foreigner has to pay to the hilt - other than VAT, service charge,  etc.

Asking as I don't know.

I doubt whether daveaustin is talking about Government "taxes". His post is fair.🙃🙃

Yes, no fake declarations of 'how tourists will benefit from insurance'... Just add it to the ticket price, and travellers can decide, whether it's still worth flying to Thailand...

No you will contributing to insurance of people whether they have insured themselves or not,  The 300 baht fee is for everybody not just those without travel insurance

I don't claim to know.  I would hope there are consequences like blacklisting them until they settle their account.

I just know that Thailand claims they had to pay 400 million baht one year to reimburse hospitals that treated foreigners and didn't get paid. That came out in one of the many discussions of the 300 baht fee.

Maybe someone who knows how they handle it can chime in?   They don't even have to fess up to being skint...  Tell us as if it happened to a friend.  Nod, nod, wink, wink.

Several issues here..

It's not been implemented simply because they haven't been able to work out how to do it,

The airlines will not entertain it if it means extra work for them...differing ticketing for Thais/ non Thai etc

Bt 300 on a bt25,000 long haul ticket is far less noticeable than Bt300 on a bt1,500 from a neighbouring Asean country....affecting low-cost carriers especially.

Domestic pax fees have also just increased.

Ironically, to "stimulate" tourism, are they not giving away free domestic flights ?
