Would it be a different lifestyle from say Pattaya

Presumably very different, of course depending of your life-style in Pattaya...:whistling:

If me – and withb the knowledge I have about Isaan, yes been there many times and had/have girlfriend from up there – I would never consider that area for retirement for a single person. However, we are all different and it's depending both on life-style and economy – I would at any time chose in area with one of the more major tourist destination, so I'm not living too far away from some more wellknown life – I already chose that, even that I have agirlfriend from up Isaan.

You've been hanging around too many Wokes and lefties living in Australia.    Normal gay people don't care about those silly things.

Don't go then. Leave the peace, tranquility, great food and generally happy way of life to us that do see the appeal.

Just don't stay to long as the Thai tax chaps will start to racket. Make the stay less then 180 days and mainly never buy, only rent. Thus if things get worse, you can pack and leave.

Nong Khai is highly rated???

Easy to hop across the border for visa runs... 😆 (Personally, I wouldn't want to live there. Pretty boring, and the interesting places in town can be seen in 30 minutes.)

Speak for yourself,  I love visiting thr various regions of Isaan.

Maybe it's just me, but always when travelling there, one town seems to look pretty much like the next...

Depending how you invest, and how you secure your investment. Everything isn’t lost if you are married, but still there is a chance for being screwed over. Non of us can predict the future, but there comes with some common sense and rules.

That's the big problem in Thailand (for many); as an unmarried prospective investor you cannot, and even if you're married, it is mostly in your wife's (and her family's) name, which is risky...

As long you do not put all your money in ,,,,,,,,,, there comes with some common sense, right? But we all know many somehow do not think or if they ever did think at all. Not sure sometimes.

Nong Khai 6.5

Udon 7

Khon Kaen 6

Chiang Mai 8

Is that how many single men there are in each city?

If so I’m guessing there is a dwarf living in NK.

True the persuading is there to live with the GF in her village

But...it doesn't suit everyone

Been there, done that. Land, build a nice house not realizing the true ways of Isaan. After 6 yrs of being a part timer while working offshore, one day sitting there next to harvested rice field, cows being led out to graze, I decided after working hard all my life I deserved better, my kid deserved better schools than what was available. Packed up the pickup with MB and clothes and off we went.

Yes yes I remember now and thankyou for helping me escape from that horrid jail view talay 2B.

Without your getaway car waiting I would of still been locked in that ghastly pool area listening to the old geriatrics talking about their sicknesses
