Xiaomi phones, anyone using them ?

Featured Replies

Am interested in the Xiaomi mobile phones, in particular the 15T Pro and the 17 Pro Max ( not currently available in Thailand i believe but looks amazing and worth waiting for imho ).

So, anyone using Xiaomi phones, any good/bad points ??

I have had two: the Redmi 10 and the Redmi 14 5G. The Redmi 10, I really liked, it was a heavier phone that felt solid. The 14 is much lighter and a bit faster. The screen is a bit too sensitive for my taste.  These are not comparable to what you are looking for, but overall, I think Xiaomi makes a good product for the price.

I agree.

However the bloatware, on my Redmi Note 8, was off the scale forcing me to go to a custom rom within 3 months - which I am still using 5 years later.

So solid hardware/firmware ..........

If you don't care about privacy then no issues.......

From memory @scubascuba3 is a fan.......

This'll be a flagship model, the Mi phones are above the Redmi stuff. Had about 4 or 5 Chinese phones in the past decade and Xiaomi has been by far the best. As mentioned the native launcher and OS isn't great, I use Nova Launcher instead which is excellent.

Ive had a 11t pro for the last few years and have just replaced with a poco F7 ultra,

Xiaomi have value for money at every price point, the best bang per buck as long as you know what to look for and how to compare different models.

oneplus make good phones as well but are getting pricey now.

I swear by them. Bought my first one 10 years ago. The Mi Max 3 which had one of the biggest screens at the time and only 5k THB. Currently have the 12T which is still going strong. Paid a lot more for that, about 16k THB from memory. This year, bought a Redmi 14 4G for the GF which has everything she needs. It's her second phone though. Paid about 6k THB.

Next one will be a Xiaomi for sure 😊

I'd definitely recommend them, i have the Redmi 9, 12 and 13Pro+ all good, still use all 3 round the condo, 9 for casting, 12 for podcasts, radio and porn, 13Pro+ for everything else.

The 15T Pro and 17 you mentioned will both be very good, go for it, i buy on Lazada or Shopee from a Xiaomi official store

I am coming from Apple, have used iPhones since i first bought the iPhone 4.

Currently own a 13 Pro Max and have been happy with it but it is time for a change, the iPhone 17 base model is the obvious continuation but for once have decided to look elsewhere.

Yes, the quality seems to be there and the brand seems to be exceptional ( i own a Xiaomi dash cam and electric pump) , can see the reliability and innovative functionality.

Coming from an iPhone i was first attracted by the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max which seems to outperform its Apple counterpart in almost every sector, plus the rear screen is a thing of beauty.

But although they are not exactly global phones at the moment ( some functions will have Chinese functionality that needs a workaround)  am sure that will change soon.

Have seen that they are available on Lazada and Shopee but because of the above differences I would hold back on opting for the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.

This sort of lead me to the 15T Pro which is still very new and also looks terrific which in turn lead me to seek some assistance from Xiaomi owners on here.

Thanks for your input.

The problem with the Chinese phone is it will be loaded with malware/spyware etc.

I like the new Apple Air.  Very thin.  I have the 15 max so probably next year.  Give them a year to work out any bugs.

Besides I’m use to Apple.  Don’t like Android.

I dallied with Samsung for a couple of years but went back to Apple with an iPhone 11.  That went pop 18 months ago (literally) and I replaced with an iPhone 15.  I can't tell the difference, it seems the same as my iPhone 11.

Yes, its a definite change of direction for me and not 100% certain I will go with it, just currently looking at options.

17 base model is widely accepted as the better buy of the Apple offerings this year. The iPhone Air is stunning but the downsides ( camera, battery, 1 speaker ) could cause some remorse.

The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is the one that sent me off in this direction and is a real thing of beauty.

Check out this video from a guy who seems to give unbiased opinions.

So am kind of in limbo right now:

Play it safe with the IPhone 18 base model or risk the Xiaomi ( waiting for the global version ).

The Xiaomi 15T Pro has thrown itself into the mix just to mess with me !!

I use a POCO X6 Pro. Bht 9000 off Shopee. A great phone. 512 GB memory, Android 15.2.

But it is not sold in the Malls or shops, so cannot buy a decent cover for it except online.

Bought a Xiaomi 15t Pro yesterday.

Very good, great screen, easy to use & the camera is awesome!

Got a free backpack, mini fan, power bank & a speaker too!

Thanks.

Xiaomi is an excellent brand imho and looking at changing my iPhone has brought them up on my radar.

Please let me know how you get on with it, any good/bad experiences.

Yeah, have to go back 14 years when I had anything other than IOS so the change in OS might be difficult to handle for a while.

Check out the video I posted, it really is a thing of beauty and not too dissimilar to an iPhone.

In short, there are value for money if you're looking for not too complicated or over laden with useless apps.

Yes, I watched 11 minutes of it, it's very impressive and if I wanted an Android, I would go for that phone.

But I love Apple's iOS, I'm not bothered about all the bells and whistles, I would probably go for the earliest, cheapest iPhone I could get from Apple, probably the iPhone 13.

Same here, SE for the little one, 13 Pro for Big sister, 14 Pro for Mum and I enjoy the 17 Pro now, it is my new Camera bag. Coupled with a Macbook air and a big TV it gives all the non carnal fun in the World to this old man.

Yeah, a little similar here, 13 PM for me, XS Max for her ladyship, XS for number 1 child, some Vivo model for number 2 child ( he didn’t want the IPhone 7 handmedown so that went to a nephew ).

There are people waiting on my decision !!

But it early days yet, just doing some due diligence.

If the local phone sellers hadn’t tried to extort me by adding accessories or extended warranty when i tried to buy an IPhone I would have the 17 base model now, maybe that is a sign ?

A couple months ago I bought a Xiaomi Pad2 tablet.

Best tablet I ever had.

My experience with Thailand warranty service on a xiaomi monitor which came with a defective screen was mediocre and reviews of their service center are similar.

I really thought they were a quality company but I wouldn't buy another product from them.

That said, they did replace the monitor with a new one, but it took a couple weeks.

I like Apple care, for Ipads mostly, they always replace with a new one or refurb. So far, financially, I probably come out ahead, as I don't want to consider these cheap screen replacement shops. One might get lucky in some of them though, but even Dr. MacBook did a so so job a few years ago. Converted my to AC.

So, after researching a few Xiaomi 17 Pro Max videos it remains a real thing of beauty, quite a few of the usual reviewers getting their hands on one quite easily it appears.

Often called an IPhone 17 Pro Max but better and cheaper.

Pros:

That rear screen is super impressive.

That 7500 mah battery is groundbreaking.

The cameras and screens compare with other high end model phones

Cons:

No Android Auto

No eSIM functionality

A China rom

So, no Android Auto, I have Google Maps embedded but currently use Apple CarPlay for my music library ( I could dig out my old iPod Touch 6 and see if that connects ? ).

No eSIM not really an issue but nice to have if travelling to other countries, I believe the Xiaomi is dual sim but not sure unless a sim fits either side of the sim tray ?.

China rom seems inconvenient at the moment, a few workarounds required to enable google stuff and a few Chinese features ( apps, text etc ) unable to delete.

Seems like a Global rom is likely due to the extreme interest but could come at a cost, for example EU laws mean that the battery is too big and would have to be reduced for an EU version.
The US would probably find some reason to block it or extreme tariffs to protect domestic market.

Could possibly be launched in Japan or Singapore but whether the above cons would be changed or battery life changed remains to be seen.

So, if a Global rom appears and the specs are not altered too much I would go for it but until then will stick with my original plan to go for an iPhone 17 base model with a little interest being shown in the 15T Pro.

Strange that they've dropped the esim, i have it on the cheaper 13 Pro+, both sims go into the same sim slot. I use VLC app for both casting and music playlists, works for me

Xiaomi / POCO phone fan also, and I don't even bother looking at the competition.  Wife just picked up a new one, loves it, and mine (POCO X3 NFC) is still going strong, 5 years old.  Very nice camera (Sony sensor), with good EIS, which really helps with vids.

Yeah, especially as Apple are going eSIM only ( for a slightly bigger battery ) in some markets.

Maybe just a China thing and if it goes Global eSIM will be available.

yes, battery matters the most, and having sufficient memory to run the phone

They all have android auto, hidden in " more connectivity options"

And if you prefer car play, just download "carbitlink" android app
