Great for being the hero, but I don't understand on what legal terms he is living in the UK.  Algeria was never part of the British colonial empire...

The link in the OP mentions neither Algerian nor immigrant and the thread title is just an attempt to stir the <deleted>.

Hi Simon, for reference:

The first step to relocating from Algeria to the UK is to apply for a visa. The UK offers a variety of visa options for Algerian skilled professionals, tailored to different requirements and backgrounds. The most common visas include:

Skilled Worker Visa: For individuals with a job offer in an eligible occupation from a UK employer with a sponsorship license.

Health and Care Worker Visa: Specifically for medical professionals to work in the NHS, an NHS supplier, or adult social care.

Senior or Specialist Worker Visa: For senior managers or specialists being transferred to a UK branch of an overseas business.

It is quite possible he could have joined the NHS as a Health/Care worker then later left to join LNER train operations.

Not unlike the big hearted and honest Thai Taxi drivers that suddenly appear over here from time to time, normally after somebody has recently been scammed or beaten up by other Thais ,

The assailant wasn’t an immigrant.

His name is Zitouni, it's Arabic retranscribed in French, so he's likely from a former French colony.

He was of immigrant heritage from the Caribbean

Other sources confirm he was Algerian whereas the OP linked to a news article that didn't mention it despite proclaiming it in the thread title.

These visas didn't exist 20 years ago when he came to the UK.  Other routes were available.

Back of a lorry or overstaying a visa normally

Your prejudice is so deep-rooted that you can't bring yourself to accept that a Muslim can act heroically in defence of others, but instead offer nothing more than a snide comment.

I have nothing but admiration for Mr. Zitouni and the others who put themselves in danger to protect fellow passengers, irrespective of their colour, religion, sexuality or any other personal attribute.

Facts are not prejudice

Agreed; facts aren't prejudice.

Here's a fact: Samir Zitouni - who happens to be a Muslim - shielded people from an attacker wielding a knife on a train last Saturday.

Samir Zitouni arrived in the UK in the "Back of a lorry or overstay(ed) a visa" cannot be considered a fact unless you have evidence to support that statement. In the absence of such evidence, the statement is no more than a snide comment from a bigot.

who cares what legal terms he is living in the UK, The point is that he stood his ground and confronted the guy with the knife, would you have done that?

Well, here is an Algerian doing a good deed..

But then:

Japanese citizens: In 2023, there were approximately 39,000 Japanese citizens living in Germany, with 2 suspected of violent crimes.

Algerian citizens: During the same year, there were approximately 25,000 Algerians living in Germany, with 1,729 suspected of violent crimes.

Interpretation: This data indicates a significantly higher rate of violent crime involvement per capita for Algerians compared to Japanese citizens in Germany. It's important to note that these statistics only represent suspicions and may not reflect actual guilty...

Ah these statistics.

But I had some Algerians friends. They locked everything. When I asked why, they replied, because if you do not in Algeria, you come back and everything is gone....

Sounds like a reliable source of information...

wonder where your ancestors came from

Pity they didn't ask him for his birth certificate before he saved them from the attacker.

That would have cleared it up nicely from the first and avoided confusion

Discussion of Germany is off-topic but as you brought it up:

"Germany saw over a 46% increase in right-wing extremist crimes in 2024, according to a report released by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) on Tuesday.

A total of 57,701 right-wing extremist crimes were reported in 2024 in Germany, representing a 46% increase, with 2,976 of those categorized as violent crimes, according to the report presented by Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt and BfV Vice President Sinan Selen."

Worrying times for that country.

He has worked for the Railways for 20 years.

He was very brave and deserves every credit for what he did.

The fact that he may have originally been born in Algeria, that he may be a muslim (entirely his business). that he has dark skin and an anglicised nickname taken from his arabic "given" name is utterly irrelevant.

Attempts to somehow impugn because of a perceived view  or doubt of  his immigration status are the actions of a bottom feeding, mouth breathing bigot - not enough chlorine in the gene pool there!

Frankly suggesting that somehow he is special because he is an immigrant (who has been here for decades) are equally distasteful.

He is a good man, who did a very brave thing, which he saw as his duty. That is more than enough. How many on here would?

Britain should be proud of him.

Thank you, some common sense and clarity amongst the endless small minded moronicity endemic on AsinineNow.
