I still rate New York as the #1 place in the world, but I wouldn't go there for free these days.

Been there, done that to death. I still subscribe to New York Magazine and read it every day. I worked (marginally) in New York City politics and still follow its many funny characters.

 

I sent Mandami $100 at the beginning and I am so glad that it helped consign Cuomo to certain career death. His Fredo-brother hanging on at end of the dial NewsNight I more scorn than actively hate.

 

But both of them are destined for dead end, irrevelevant  Florida retirement and that delights me.

Because the phone I bought in Thailand isn’t a burner phone and never understood why anyone would want one unless they were a shady character. But you didn’t answer the question, why would you buy a burner phone in Thailand, or even want or need a burner phone for passport control in the USA?

It all depends on your age. I went back to OZ a few years back to apply for my pension. I don't regret it, my Thai wife of 22 years has no desire to go back to LOS, she makes good money as a nurse, we just holiday in Thailand twice a year

About the burner phone question, I just assumed with the current maga fascist regime in control already notorious for hassling entering non-citizens over their political views (pro Trump, friend / anti Trump enemy) that there almost definitely would be increased hassles on entering citizens. Especially very long term expats who have been away for several years. I just did a quick online search, and yes, as I expected, this is absolutely true.

I'll probably eventually open a separate topic about this because it's something expats should be aware of. There is a lot of information out there on what happens if you're targeted, and specific legal rules on what your rights are as a CITIZEN regarding your phone. 

 

Some want to go back to farangland but cant because they dont have enough money for tickets and other can't go back because they have a warrant for they arrest in the country of origin.And many hiding in Thailand and im happy some get cought and in almost every case they have a long overstay,

I spend about four months every year back in San Diego.  Best of both worlds.  Rainy season Thailand/Summer in San Diego.  Endless summer. 

 

Before fully retiring at the beginning of COVID I would fly into an U.S. airport from abroad numerous times a year from my contracting job.

 

Global Entry for years.

 

Never been searched.  Never had my phone confiscated.

If you don’t look and act like a weirdo, you’ll be fine.

U.S. citizens cannot be denied entry entering America.  If they have outstanding warrants they can be detained and turned over to police.

Why would you be targeted unless there is a specific reason?  

 

If you’re in a specific database, you’re there for a reason.

 

Normal law abiding citizens don’t have these problems.

Love going back. Go back every 3 months …and take the TGF to a new country every other 3 months - have to be fair.
