Keeping a sim card alive

Featured Replies

I used to have a True sim card that let you buy extended life on your sim card, up to 18 months or two years I believe. All you needed to do was enter sone codes and it would deduct load and extend the expiry date. What other providers have this capability? I'm out of the country frequently and tire of having my sim card expired when I return.

You can top up while out of the country using mobiletopup com. Or use your bank app to top up.

I don't want to top up the sim. I want to extend the expiry date. IIRC it cost 20 baht to extend true by a year.

I googled (not AI) and found the following:

USSD method to Extend your SIM’s validity

There are also methods for extending your balance by entering a code and deducting from your balance. To extend your validity via USSD codes:

  • AIS
    • Add 10 Baht credit for 30 Days Validity
    • Alternative method: Dial *500*9#   Add 30 days validity for 30 THB via Mao Mao package
  • DTAC  –  Extend your validity for up to 365 days at a cost of 2 Baht per month.
    • Press : *113*30*9#  for 30 days extension.  Cost 2 Baht
    • Press : *113*60*9#  for 60 days extension.  Cost 4 Baht
    • Press : *113*90*9#  for 90 days extension.  Cost 6 Baht
    • Press : *113*180*9#  for 180 days extension.   Cost 12 Baht
    • Conditions: Must activate SIM for at least 90 days or have usage of 200 THB.
  • TrueMove H –  “Quick Add” Extend your validity for up to 365 days at a cost of 2 Baht per month
    • Press : * 934 * 30 #  for 30 days extension.  Cost 2 Baht
    • Press : * 934 * 90 #  for 90 days extension.  Cost 6 Baht
    • Press : * 934 * 180 #  for 180 days extension.   Cost 12 Baht

Topping up has been the way of keeping both my AIS and DTAC SIMs activated while roaming overseas. It used to be that any top-up extended the expiration date by 1 month, to a maximum of 12 months. By making several minimul amount back-to-back top-ups, the validity and activation is extended. I am not sure if that has changed, but both my SIMs are good for 12 months and I only top-up when I need to add and pay for an overseas data roaming package. These are pre-paid SIMs and the monthly balance floats between 200 and 500 baht, depending on where I am and what I use/buy.

As above. AIS unchanged. 10 Baht top up (2 Baht fee at the orange machines) gives one month. max 12 months.

Everyone in Thailand can do.

Just needs the number.

Mobile not needed.

You want to know how racist this country is.  Thailand. .. go in  7-11 to buy a SIM card , passport in hand. SIM cards are from 49 baht to 399 baht. Surprise Surprise the cheaper 49 /99 baht are not available for 'foreigners '   they can go to hell

Just to remind you that you don't necessarily need to top up to extend validity. With DTAC:

  • Press : *113*30*9#  for 30 days extension.  Cost 3 Baht
  • Press : *113*60*9#  for 60 days extension.  Cost 6 Baht
  • Press : *113*90*9#  for 90 days extension.  Cost 9 Baht
  • Press : *113*180*9#  for 180 days extension.   Cost 15 Baht

With AIS, if you have collected AIS Points, you can use those.

It's not racist. It's 'business'. People are sharing codes, subsequently diverting customers away from their 'attractive' Tourist SIM packs 😊 They want each tourist to spend in excess of 300 baht. Most will anyway, but they want to choose, rather than to be corralled.

Order your SIM online and add the package that suits you.

Make sure that you have International Roaming enabled. You don't need to have Data Roaming switched on via your device, but only IR enabled on the provider side. Then you can enter the codes from abroad.

Can you still buy AIS SIMs at 7/11. You cannot top-up there.

I was able to purchase a 49 baht SIM card at the True Store at Seacon Square on Nov 5, 2025, and I am not Thai. This can be extended monthly...

Quite. i have had AIS voice only pay as you go for the last 15 years, just do 10 baht top ups ever couple of months to keep validity up front.
