Bangkok Bank mobile banking transfer limits

Featured Replies

I'd been using Bangkok Bank's internet banking for about 20 years and always had adequate limits to pay my monthly bills, with occasional larger transfers for cars, hospital, travel, etc.

Then I enabled BB's mobile banking -- since that's supposed to be the future -- and suddenly my internet banking was subject to the draconian 20k baht daily limit for mobile banking. I could no longer sit down at the beginning of the month and pay all my bills -- I had to stagger payments over several days, and some payments I had to make in installments.  Very inconvenient.

I called BB's call center on Oct 7 to request an increase in my transfer limits. As a long time customer I expected it to be a routine request that would take just a couple of days. A month later still no action. More calls and emails to Bangkok Bank, expressing my disappointment in their indifferent customer service. Finally today (Nov 24) the higher limit options appeared in my mobile banking app and I was able to raise them, though still no communication from Bangkok Bank.

It seems like the Bank is eager for us to use electronic banking, but too scared to allow usable limits, even with face scan enabled.

If you have a pending request to Bangkok Bank to raise your transfer limits, Jobian patience is required. They probably have a queue of tens of thousands of requests.

Strange.  I can adjust my limits myself on the Bangkok Bank app (up to 200,000 baht).

You can amend your Daily Limit online using the BBL App. Click the settings icon in the upper right corner (for iPhone), then scroll down the Transfer and Payment section and click Daily Limits. Then using the drop-down menu you can adjust your limit to 200,000 baht. Limits above this would require a branch visit.

Maybe I was subject to the 20k limit as a new mobile banking user (though I was a long time customer).

Now I can adjust the daily limit in the app up to 500,000 baht, though I had to wait 7 weeks for action on my request. (No branch visit was required).

You can change the limits on the phone yourself.

Don't you still have access to their internet banking service despite having registered for mobile banking, though? I experimented with the dreaded BBL app for a while, but then dumped it in sheer frustration at its slowness and erratic performance. I was able to revert to internet banking with my previous limits of 50k per transaction and 200k per day still intact.

Yes, I still have access to their internet banking service. I considered dumping the mobile app to get my original limits back on internet banking, but then Bangkok Bank finally upped my mobile limit to 500k after a wait of many weeks. Apparently the internet banking service is eventually going away, they no longer accept new customers for it.

They are not an easy bank to deal with, and don't seem to value customer service.

Limit for my mbanking with Bkk is set a 200k but anything over 50k I have to do a face scan at the time of transaction.

I cut my beard hard back every -4 to 6 weeks. The scan only works if my beard is with in a week or two being trimmed otherwise I keep being told to remove face covering.I suppose that's related to original picture or passports photo.

Even after you adjust your limit to the maximum using the Bangkok Bank phone app you will still be required to verify your identity with their finicky photo ID process. Every time I do this it takes several photo uploads before they will be able to verify and then allow you to proceed.  If they used fingerprint verification like so many US banks and credit card companies do, this process could be sped up drastically. Don't hold your breath....

My Bangkok Bank app goes up to 2,000,000 baht. The highest I have done is a 500,000 transfer.

Same for me, the maximum limit they allow is 2,000,000 baht.

IMHO this would be ridiculously laughable were it not so frustratingly annoying as it must be for you.

It might also be worth bearing in mind that fingerprints last for life, whereas mug shots do not. For instance, most of us are required to obtain fresh mug shots every 10 years for passport renewal purposes. But are mug shots against which banking facial scans are presumably judged likely to last for anywhere near as long?

Bangkok Bank app already allows fingerprint login to enter the app. Facial recognition is an extra layer of security.

Yes. And face scans for mobile app transfers of 50,000 baht and up have been made mandatory by the Bank of Thailand, so it's the same requirement across all Thai banks.

The only thing that's Bangkok Bank's fault is how shoddy they've implemented it, compared with some other banks whose face scan seems to work much more smoothly.

Is Bangkok Bank's face scanning technology any worse than the other banks?  Other than it taking a while with the ridiculous smiling and showing your teeth, it's always worked OK for me.
