Sean D. Snyder faces multiple charges for alleged sexual offences in Phuket | Photo via KFYR TV

A North Dakota grand jury has indicted Sean D. Snyder on seven federal charges related to alleged sexual offences involving minors, reportedly committed during trips to Thailand. Snyder is accused of traveling to Phuket to engage in illegal sexual conduct with two underage individuals. He also faces a charge of possessing child sexual abuse material, found on his smartphone. Snyder is currently held without bond, with an arraignment set for November 24 in the U.S. District Court.

The alleged offences span several years, with charges linked to two victims: one between 2018 and late November 2024, and another from 2023 to mid-August 2025. Snyder's charges include three counts of traveling with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, three counts of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in foreign places, and one count of possession of child pornography. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for North Dakota has not released further details about the case.

Reactions to the indictment reveal concerns over international child exploitation and highlight the role of global partnerships in tracking such crimes. The unfolding legal process underscores the challenges of prosecuting offences that cross international borders. Experts note the significance of vigilant reporting and swift action in addressing these serious charges.

Looking ahead, Snyder's legal proceedings will continue, with his initial court appearance scheduled for late November. The case could potentially involve international cooperation if evidence or witnesses from Thailand are required. Legal experts predict a complex trial due to the cross-border nature of the charges, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • Snyder faces charges for alleged offences in Thailand involving minors.
  • Possession of child sexual abuse material adds to the severe allegations.
  • Legal complexities arise due to the international aspect of the case.

Not smart. The FEDS will throw up to $10 million at prosecuting underage sex crimes committed by an American. So, unless you are very wealthy, you will spend a decade in a federal prison. Yikes.

Lawfully, it doesn't. And if you read, they were minors from 2018 until 2025 so definitely not 17.

I'd guess that it would be challenging for the authorities to prove that pix of a 17yo were taken before that person turned 18, so my expectation is that these pix were obviously not of a consenting adult.

This guy's not gonna have to worry about finding his rent money for a few years.

My reading of that date range was that it referred to the period of alleged offending rather than the span of the alleged victims' minor status?

Do you mean for all sex offenders?

Very interesting,

He has a weird smile on his face.  Maybe he shouldn't be held in the special wing for such offenders, let him stay with the general populace of the prison.  See how long the smiles stays.

If he ever entered general population in the prison, he wouldn't live to see the following day.

   You seem concerned about that.........................

Now that is the picture and info that should be put on every Thai or Foreigner caught here in Thailand doing any sort of child porn and abuse. Name, Face and Info!

No it doesn't. The law is the law. You've been watching too much Megyn R. Kelly.

Phuket seems to bu be the new place for underage sex.

It isn't. Usually, it is Australians and Europeans. This is a reflection of geography.  The close proximity of Indonesia, Thailand, and Cambodia makes it easier for these people to travel.  North Americans tend to exploit in Latin America like the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Honduras.

Most of sexual offences against children by foreigners in SE Asia are carried out by nationals of other Asian countries.  I believe Japan supplies the greatest % of offenders.

In Thailand UK is top Western offender with 30% of cases.

In Cambodia US is top Western offender with, I believe, 15% of cases.

Did research a month or so ago and can't be a5sed to do it again.

He should be locked up and the key thrown away. No argument.

But lockup ought to be where the crime was committed IMO. Something to do with jurisdiction... he didn't do the crimes in US, he did them in Thailand and ideally he should be charged and tried here (I know... I can hear "courts too corrupt", "buy his way out" etc).

US has enough pervs in US raping children (may we see the Epstein list?) that should be gone after and prosecuted. Only so much money, time, resources available to go after those people & my opinion is "clean up your own house first"....

And I don't get the idea that you can do a crime in one country yet be charged and imprisoned in another that has no substantive connection to that crime. If I were gobble some shrooms in Oregon (may be legal there now) would it be fine for Thailand to charge me when I came to Thailand?

According to the court papers:

The child allegedly abused between 2023 and 2025, was born in 2016.

The child allegedly abused between 2018 and 2023 was born in 2012.

The media on his cellphone depicted children under 12 years old.

Nah. I'm very happy with my woman and even when I was single I never messed around with very young women, it's just not worth it. But you're right I am concerned for other guys as the US engages in major overreach when it comes to this kind of thing okay 15 and under I get it, but 16 and 17, that's debatable, when it comes to a 10-year federal prison sentence. I'm not condoning underage sex on any level, I'm just debating the merits of prosecution.

Why come to Thailand for that ?

These things come in ebbs and flows. I recall there being a series of arrest about 20 years ago. Simon the ex hotelier/volunteer constable would remember. He herded hooligans and wayward lotharios on the mean streets of Patong.

And when you get out, you'll be a registered sex offender, almost like having pedophile tattooed on your forehead.

W. was on about this thing, haven't heard it mentioned much since.  I guess this coming up now is a gesture by the GOP to say "see? we're not pro-pedo."  The very thought of that one got them all voting in unison with the Dems, eh?

Sickening.  He should rot in a Thai prison not U.S.

It is discretionary.  A big-time US gangster tried to "return" back when and Golda returned him to the US.

Your tone sounds a bit anti-Semitic there, bro.
