Over 50% more expensive... OK, Thailand can afford it and is practically overrun by tourists from high-wage countries.:clap2:

Well the last time I flew out of Swampy was in 2009, I think, when a small Singha cost 200bht, so if you are on limited funds I think you would have thought it a bit of a rip off, eh......If the cap fits....😉

And glad you found it............:stoner:

That is starting to manifest itself with numbers going elsewhere.

Thailand wont let us stay beyond this silly minimum of 30 days,

yet we have to PAY them to leave?

Talk about Pure Greed!

I'm not a fan of taxation (it's theft!), but realistically if 400 baht extra is what's going to deter you from travelling, maybe Thailand doesn't really need ya...

Ok so may I ask how much you spend on your favourite pastimes whilst you are here?

I come here 4 times each year spend up to £1000 per flight and during each stay ranging from 4 to 6weeks I spend on average for food travel inland and hotels around 100,000 baht plus another 50,000 for the needs of girlfriends all of which goes back into the Thai economy, ( Thais don’t save ) so surely this is enough without the greedy rip off brigade squeezing more out of me.

There are others out there with an even higher spend rate than me who feel the principle of organised theft is disgraceful.

It is not the sum it is the principal behind it of endless rip off.

There you go. Much easier to hike this existing departure fee than introducing a new tourist tax upon entry.

Greed ultimately finds its way.

You are imagining conspiracy where there is none. It is a small increase in the Airport Service Fee. The mechanism of collection is unchanged from the existing fee. How do you propose that the  AOT pay for the operations of its airports?

The people who are complaining about a relatively insignificant change in the fee define the word self centered. The departure service fee has been the same since 2007. In the 18 years that have passed, wages and costs have increased. Investments in airport infrastructure must be made. And yet, we have a small group of angry old westerners complaining for the sake of complaining. They also expect the benefits they receive to be indexed, but they don't care about the people who have to pay for it. Let the users of the airport carry some of the costs of using the airport.  420 additional baht is nothing and is still less than the airport service fees at other large airports. if you can't pay the fee, stay at home and stop expecting the taxpayers of the host country to subsidize your fun in the sun.

Where did the other 3.6 BILLION baht go?how many come by land,no taxe airport

Some is theft obviously, but without taxes how do you thing ANYTHING would work?

Of course that is the one referred to. I reckon they'll add it to the TDAC, just needs a additional step in the application process. Not hard to do i think.

That is probably the most likely scenario.

An airline tax is a non starter unless it applies to all passengers within an airline recognised category, currently that does not identify residency or the like.

From what I gather the Heathrow APD amount is selective based on seat distance, effectively cabin class.

Thailand already have 3.  This (currently) 730 THB Passenger Service Charge, a 70 THB Advanced Passenger Processing User Charge and 30THB International Arrival And Departure Fee.  Another one would be easy to add.

Sorry my reference went over your head, I was  merely indicating Heathrow had a tax over and above the taxes applied in most countries.

Adding a tax is easy, implementation is another ball game. Making an airline tax selective is extremely difficult, effectively impossible the way Thailand was looking to do it.

Heathrow APD is a selective tax but based on a criteria that airlines can recognise. Trying to  use passenger information just doesn't work, as they have found out.

Common Types of Airline Taxes & Fees

Government Excise Taxes: Federal taxes on tickets, often per segment (takeoff/landing) or a percentage of the fare, like the U.S. Transportation Tax.

Security Fees: Charges for airport security, such as the U.S. September 11th Security Fee or general Passenger Security Charges.

Passenger Facility Charges (PFCs): Airport-imposed fees for infrastructure, varying by location (e.g., up to $4.50 in the U.S.).

Customs & Immigration Fees: Charges for processing passengers and goods entering/leaving a country (e.g., APHIS fees, Customs User Fees).

International Departure/Arrival Taxes: Taxes specifically for leaving or entering a country, like the U.S. International Departure Tax.

Value Added Tax (VAT) / Sales Tax: Applied in many countries (e.g., EU, India), sometimes on the ticket or services.

Airport/Passenger Service Charges (PSC/PAX): Fees for using airport facilities, often labeled as "Passenger Service Charge" (AE, AL, RA).

Country-Specific Taxes:

UK Air Passenger Duty (APD): Based on destination distance and class.

Philippines Travel Tax: Fixed amounts for departing passengers.

Import and export duties on goods.

There is no need for taxes levied upon the hard working public but the greedy hand of government grabs taxes and import duties and then some brain dead no it all wastes it on pointless white elephant exercises and petty projects.

just think about it you work for a salary that is heavily taxed before you get it, then you take the pittance you have left to pay for utilities which are taxed again then you buy food and water taxed again shoes and clothes taxed again plus vat and so it goes on until you have paid an additional 40 to 50% or more of that same salary in taxes, yet with prudence and proper planning import duties would cover government expenditure, so much is imported in to countries around the world, billions of Baht, G B pounds, Dollars etc, etc but no politician has the balls or brains to take enough action to ease the burden upon the hard pressed work force.

Why should 2% of the world hold 95% of the wealth which they get from paying minimal amounts of tax when the rest of us pay the maximum.

These are my own sentiments and I should be allowed to keep them, and although some will disagree with them answer this >> having paid your taxes is your life any better for it, I think not because your life would be much better if you kept the money you earn to spend on the things you want contributing to import duties and not direct tax.

Does the taxes you pay benefit politicians, yes of course it does they can use the same tax tricks as the hi sos

I see so you pay a girlfriend tax.

Be careful as I have seen lots of guys crying into their beer after the girlfriend tax was surreptitiously increased to a house, a car, parental upkeep and the sick buffalo up in those backward Isaan villages.

It seems the taxes start off low and increase exponentially and before they  know it the farangs have lost their shirt.

More and more top politicians in government are rich themselves, millionaires, or even billionaires, or they get rich in office... Why should they support redistribution of wealth, or even easing the burden for the masses?

Here we go again! Yet another fully paid up member of the addled brain brigade who interprets a reply in the way he wants too and not in the intended way.

I do not pay a girlfriend tax I take care of them by taking them to restaurants they cannot afford to go to, to eat lobster and crabs and other unaffordable ( for them),I buy special foods that are largely beyond them and other incidentals they need from time to time and which eases the burden upon the enforced low salaries they earn, Would you get up in the morning for 20,000 baht a MONTH and work hard all day 6 day per week,, no you would not, so the help I give them is genuine help which does not spoil them and therefore does not cause ripples in their earnings should anything happen to me and these treats stop.

They do not know it but both of them will benefit from my will, but the hiatus between the time it takes to sort out said will and payout made could cause free fall if I were to pay them a large chunk every month and it suddenly stops so I do not do it.

I have been coming to see them for years they are self employed in own business or a bank worker, none have ever been bar girls so do not have the mentality you talk about and have obviously been caught out by.

Carry on dribbling into your underwear sunshine you are obviously not fully compos mentis.
