Is the conflict with Cambodia deemed that insignificant from a financial point of view?

  • I prefer to ask, why isn't your home currency strengthening against the THB ?

  • Well observed. It's not the 3rd world currencies strenghtening against the US Dollar, it's the US Dollar weakening against 3rd world currencies.

I understand that logic but I remain surprised that it hasn’t dipped because of the financial impact of the war - and the potential tariff penalties if Trump wants to knock heads together.

Me too..nothing makes much sense in the Thai currency exchange rate  (perhaps since the 1996 crash )

What is always for certain is that when I want/need or decide to exchange money the rate is always bad  100 percent bad track record for me :w00t:

Massive foreign currency reserves and huge gold trading to Vietnam via Cambodia

I see from the news that the border areas are being evacuated due to the bombardment from the cameyn lot using multiple rocket launchers . Seems to be mostly rural farming areas,  so maybe not a huge amount of economic damage.

Nonsense unless you classify Australia as a third-world country, the AUD went up against the US dollar.

I have not classified Australia as a third world country specifically.

But still, Australian residents in Thailand complain about "less disposable income", due to "adverse" currency developpements over a long time. Emphasis: Long term.

Governemental actions in combination with currency exchange rates may have thrown a "monkey wrench" to many Australian retirees in Thailand.

Some will say "good for you", others will say you should have been in Thailand around 1995. But that's another story, Far removed from todays worries. Believe it or not.

I was in Thailand in 1995, but moved back to OZ, and yes, I get annoyed with the strength of the Teflon bath since I holiday at least twice a year in Thailand.I am married to a Thai for about 23 years now.

That is true and whilst there is a huge amount of cross-border trade, being lost at the moment, it is not a major part of GDP.

However, I thought that the cost of the war and potential trade sanctions constitute a political risk that would weaken the Baht.

Because the super rich Thais are moving money overseas to invest overseas before Thailand collapses, thus they "encourage" the "controllers" of the Baht to keep it strong.  Added to this are all the large foreign criminal organisations in Thailand wishing to repatriate the "clean" Thai Baht to "safe" overseas locations.

The baht is pretty much anchored in and won't budge no matter what happens now. The strength of it is in concert to letting people with large baht incomes have powerful spending power, and the trend seems to be for that to continue indefinately.

Yes no matter what we say the elites rule thailand they are the ones keeping it where they want it more money overseas buying power but one Day people will wake up it has to come crashing down eventually

Me Too,My U.K.PITTANCE is due Today & It's DOWN On Last Months Payment....

Earlier today, Bloomberg TV reported the Thai baht hitting a 4 year high.

Euro is up against dollar but down against thb.

They could lower interest rates even more but don't.

The US-dollar is weakening – probably part of the US-leader's politics to export more with a cheap dollar – Thailand seems to do better financially than dollars, but the baht is however weekening a bit against euro...:whistling:
