A recent survey by Thailand's National Institute of Development Administration (Nida) reveals that most respondents remain undecided on their choice for prime minister and political party. Conducted nationwide from December 4 to 12, the survey sampled 2,500 respondents to gauge political popularity. The People's Party and its leader, Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, were the leading choices among those who expressed a preference.

Favourite Prime Ministerial Candidates:

  • 40.60%: Undecided
  • 17.20%: Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut (People’s Party)
  • 12.32%: Anutin Charnvirakul (Bhumjaithai Party)
  • 10.76%: Abhisit Vejjajiva (Democrat Party)
  • 6.28%: Julapun Amornvivat (Pheu Thai Party)
  • 3.88%: Gen Rangsee Kitiyanasap (Economic Party)
  • 3.12%: Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan (Thai Sang Thai Party)
  • 1.40%: Pirapan Salirathavibhaga (United Thai Nation Party)
  • 1.28%: Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha (former PM)

A significant portion of participants couldn't identify a suitable prime ministerial candidate, highlighting widespread indecision. Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut garnered notable support, while current Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva followed behind.

Political Party Preferences:

  • 32.36%: Undecided
  • 25.28%: People’s Party
  • 11.80%: Democrat Party
  • 11.04%: Pheu Thai Party
  • 9.92%: Bhumjaithai Party
  • 2.76%: Economic Party
  • 2.32%: United Thai Nation Party
  • 2.00%: Thai Sang Thai Party
  • 1.12%: Palang Pracharath Party

When it came to party preference, a large portion of respondents did not support any party. The People's Party led named preferences, followed by the Democrat and Pheu Thai Parties.

Political analysts suggest this indecision reflects growing uncertainty and complexity in the current political climate. The implications could prove challenging for parties trying to solidify support ahead of future elections, as voter indecision may hinder effective policy planning, reported the Bangkok Post.

Looking forward, attention will focus on how these dynamics evolve and influence upcoming political strategies and campaigns. As indecision remains high, parties may need to adopt new approaches to connect with potential supporters and clarify their policy platforms.

Key Takeaways

40.60% of respondents remain undecided on a suitable prime ministerial candidate.
People’s Party leads with 25.28% support among those who chose a party.
Political indecision is prevalent, posing challenges for upcoming campaigns.

As we can see in the percentages it will be the People's Party that will win the elections with a big majority. A good thing for Thailand as changes will be made and hopefully will this party stop the craziness at the Cambodian border too.

Thailand needs changes and the old guard and elite are bringing the whole country down, economical, social and  credibilitity. Sad as Thailand could be so much better, and I really believe that the People's Party will able to bring the country back to florish

Trying to dig up dirt on PP is now the EC's and CC's priority.

Does anybody know if there are any young and progressive leaders that are potential candidates for this election?

I agree.. the PP may have the numbers right now. But that really does not matter does it? They had this last elections and lost anyways.

PP may have to compromise with some dinosaur parties to win. Not nice, but realpolitik.

They need to have a huge majority or other parties will form a coalition with a majority.

This election should be different (hopefully).  This time the senators will not have a vote for prime minister.  Last election they were the decider

On the figures quoted the PP does NOT have the numbers to form a government. What it has is the numbers to make the first attempt to form a government by forming alliances with other parties that have always been and remain hostile to PP and its aims to reform Thai government and administration in preparation for entering the late C20th.

On the performances of the last several years PP may even succeed in forming a government for at least 5 minutes before the rats all scuttle off to richer pastures.

Predictions are only guesswork.

Asking 2,500 people how 40,000,000 people will vote, is like playing darts blindfolded after being spun in different directions.

But to be able to do any of that, the PP need to win an overwhelming majority of seats in parliament, (at least 300 plus seats) to become the majority party in their own right .

Granted that they won the most seats at the last election they could still not form a government on their own, and TBH, I don't they can this time either, so unless they can or even want to form a coalition government with other parties, they won't be in power this time either.

Elect anyone young and progressive, but don't elect another dinosaur. Thailand desperately needs to move forward. The elites just don't matter!

The elite and dinosaurs sucks all the money and wealth out of the country till nothing is left and then they give what is left over to the people... Time now to hold them back

They must be stopped at all costs, and if these pigs decide to deny another election result the masses must shut the economy down, shut the nation down, and protest by the millions until the pathetic army and toxic leaders give up.

Yeah! .....and that's going to happen...............NOT.

The question that should be asked, is do the Thai people believe that the party they vote for be will allowed to be have a PM?

The People’s Party demonstrated before that what the people choose is never going to happen unless approved by the army and the top 1% elite who control what happens to the country. They are the individuals who fear change and the country developing into a modern society and, more importantly, them losing their slice of the cake.

The election is purely a way to pacify, and let Thais believe, they’re involved in the process in some way. They’re not that stupid.

It is all well and good saying that the masses should shut the economy down, but how do you support your family and pay your bills? No work = no money. and I am sure that the rich people can hold old out longer than poor people.

Voters undecided no surprise. Why even bother the loser will just come up with something to have them removed.  Last major vote how many since 4?🤣

Who I forgot it is a democracy? People's party🤣 that is just the name I seriously doubt the leader gives a rat A for the people! They all too greedy running to get theirs!

Looking good! I sincerly hope this popularity lasts - anyone other than Bumjaithai's current warmongering incumbant!

What's the word... disillusioned! Not merely undecided I'd say.

It would be looking good if PP had over 50% of the intended vote, in which case it could form a government without conceding powers to other parties.

But it doesn't and it won't.

Remember those 40 PP politicians that were accused of LM & then it went quiet?

Mark my words, when they do get the majority vote, that case will be resurrected.

Poof, low and behold, they no longer have the majority as the 40 have been found guilty. They will wheel it out when needed. 🙂

I know... The elite and army will never give up their power... They will find all kind of fake reasons to get rid of this Party just as they did already with the previous ones.. But I hope that the people won't accept it this time anymore.. because if all voters come out on the streets to protest nobody, army and police can't do anything against millions. There will be casualties, but they are needed in every change, and with the border problems it is much easier to protest, as the army can't be in 2 places at once

The Thai people will get the government that they deserve.

If they can't see that PP is the party of change, then they can't be helped. They didn't see it before, because then the PP should have gotten a full majority of seats.

They will do the same again and vote for the older parties, all the while complaining that change needs to happen.

They will get the government that they so rightly deserve. 😞

More like the Thai People have lost hope in having a choice.

If they pick someone themselves whether that be Pita Limjaroenrat or Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit they will of course be found to have some bs skeleton in their closet & disqualified

Then a military or "appointed" puppet will be inserted....stir repeat ...over & over again

The people are weary, tired, beat down they need a hero
