  • I wonder how foreign bird watchers in Thailand will now get their tours? Dont know of any such tours run by Thais. They may go to other SE Asian countries instead.

  • There is apparently a human bird watching tour every evening in Pattaya Walking Street wildlife sanctuary... or so I'm told...

  • "with officials stressing the move protects licensed Thai guides and the tourism sector."   So there are Thai bird watching tours? That's a new one?

Surely, this would be reserved for Thai's. Thai women can dance.

I suspect, they have a 'managers' work visa or such like. 🙂

Not so sure about that.

About 15- 20 year ago when the Russian girls started appearing in the go-go bars.

I can remember reading something about work permits for Exotic dancers in pattaya.

Does anyone know ?

So I suspect a lot more things like this will be happening concerning Brits 😱

who enjoy staying in Thailand wanting to make some money 💰 🤑

You can "suspect" what you want , nobody cares, but just to put you right,

most Brits prefer to get drunk and start fights,  the sort of stuff that real men do when on holiday. Organising bird watching tours is not normally on the agenda except for a tiny minority.    Why would it be ? We have more birds back home ,as we don't generally eat them

A pathetic move by the TAT followed by yet another heroic arrest by the RTP.

It was Blue pill today not the Yellow one. :giggle:

There is no such offering of bird watching tours by the Thais as they tend to grill the birds over charcoal with a spicy sauce which will give you the willies ..........

I am, honestly, so grate- and thankful that Thailand has no other problems. It is yet to be seen, which Thai operator would offer ornithological tours being guided by an expert and not the usual commission-driven shopping maniacs.

Don't remember seeing that on the list of occupations not allowed by foreigners ,  unless they are charging him as it is a tour and he can't be a tour guide . Rather than the niche specific bird watching tour.

That's probably why this guy tried it on and FAFO bit him on the backside alas.

Most are conducted in Soi Cowboy in Bangkok, less stress traveling :wai:

Yeah I remember that, wasn't it in a certain bar off Sukhumvit road? Lioness club maybe?

I think it was in one of the local news papers in pattaya.

Trouble is at that time,  I was running around pattaya heavy drinking and acting like a dog with two dicks.

So there is some big gaps,  in my memory.

Would look odd on criminal record that had been charged with twitching 🤣

well I suggest hire a motor bike , drive around , stop occasionally to look up in the trees   Why would anybody need a guide , the constant talking would scare the birds away

I guess the "bird watchers" will need to go to Soi Cowboy now.

Authorities have arrested a British national for operating illegal birdwatching tours for foreign tourists in key wildlife areas in Samut Songkhram and Phetchaburi, with officials stressing the move protects licensed Thai guides and the tourism sector.

Should have stuck to Soi 6

I prefer Nana Plaza where you can also watch the birds perched on the upper floors . . .

I believe that white swallows have been observed in Soi Paisanee for several years already.

Bird spit, the solidified saliva of swiftlets, prized in traditional Chinese medicine and modern wellness.

How about go find a forest with birds and then watch the birds? It's not like these tour guides have special access to anything you don't.

Tar and feather him

Of course there are. I'm a member of a bird watching club in Thailand and we hire Thai guides for our tours all the time.  It's a good living for someone who knows and loves Thailand's birds.

Yes.

There are some great Tit's,  to be observed down Soi 6

Even some, Bearded Tit's if required. ( no thanks )

Also Blue Tit's when it's a bit chilly.

But most of them only small Tit's.

Bet his ass started twitching when they swooped in on him😀

I've heard the rare Double-breasted Matress Thrasher has made sporadic appearances in most seaside townships.

Heh. Good point.  I doubt he took many jobs away from many thais. Technically he did break the law.  Hope he gets some relief

The authorities turn a blind eye to the Indians operating the restaurants in busy central Pattaya but launched a fight in rural areas for ONE foreign tour guide. Amazing.

Yes. I get really mad when I see all those Indian holes in the wall restaurants not having any thai waitresses,  then I see an occasional story of some western expat get ratted out because he swept the floor, or washed some glasses.

Yes.  Challenging,  but getting a proper visa, work permit, negotiate a percentage with the thai business, etc..

Just like other businesses and pay tax.
