A foreign motorcyclist was killed in a late-night road crash after a big bike collided head-on with a car in Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province. The crash occurred at around 10.00pm on 29 January 2026 and caused damage to both vehicles, prompting an emergency response from local rescue workers.

Rescue personnel from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya unit were alerted to reports of a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a car, with a critically injured victim. Officers rushed to the scene at the Pong overpass crossing Highway 36 in Pong subdistrict, where large numbers of local residents had gathered to watch the aftermath.

At the scene, rescuers found a red-and-black Ducati big bike overturned on the road without a registration plate. Nearby lay the body of the rider, identified by responders at the scene, as Mr Denne Palf Kary-Heinz, a 55-year-old whose nationality was not reported. He had sustained severe head and chest injuries, with fractures to both legs and arms. Medical staff confirmed that he had died at the scene.

A MG saloon car with Bangkok registration was a short distance away, its front end damaged from the impact. The condition of the vehicles indicated a high-force collision on the overpass.

The car driver, Mr Kittisak Rakchan, aged 53, told police he had been driving home to the Nong Prue area and was travelling normally as he reached the overpass. He said the motorcycle was travelling at high speed before the rider lost control, moving across lanes and crashing head-on into his vehicle. After the collision, he exited his car and found the motorcyclist lying unconscious and unresponsive.

Police officers and rescue workers documented the scene by taking photographs and conducting an initial inspection of the roadway. CCTV cameras in the surrounding area are being reviewed to establish the precise cause of the crash and to confirm the sequence of events described by those involved.

Authorities stated that the investigation will proceed in accordance with legal procedures once all available evidence, including video footage, has been examined. Further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing inquiry into the circumstances of the fatal crash.

Bad area to go for a ride however tempting. Street lights that are on one night, off another. Ambulances heading that way down Hwy 36 are frequently heard.

Meat grinder of crazy Ducati racers continues.

If it's the overpass that I know then it's not fit as a race track.

EDIT: indeed the overpass of highway 3240 from Pattaya eastside.

Locals and tourists act stupid all the time on thai roads.

Agree and not even a "big bike" needed.

Good chance it will come up dry before you get a few Km down the road.

I can't understand why people on big bikes want to ride so fast, then there is the small bike idiots with loud mufflers that think they are on a powerful bike because of the noise it makes, bikes are our biggest nightmare when driving in LOS

I don't really see what the point is unless you are going touring. A 160-cc step through has all the speed and more of the maneuverability you need around town and near to it. Farangs deride Thais for their noisy exhausts and tricks, but many farangs seem to require just as much 'look at me' between their legs!

Yes plenty of them around as well.

Yet another tragic data point. A car and a scooter involved in the same crash. The car driver walks away. The scooter driver doesn't.

Seems that 4 wheels, seat belts and over a ton of steel are pretty good safety features.

You wouldn't say that if you had been in our Grab the other night. Driver was an absolute menace.

If he were driving safely and if he were driving within the limits of the local environment at night time, he would still be alive today, so it's not the high-powered bike that's at fault, that's kind of like saying guns are at fault when a mass murder takes place, and not blaming the mass murderer.

It must have been very traumatic for the guy whose car he crashed into, that's something nobody ever wants to experience in their lifetime.

Although there is a tiny chance that he was swerving to avoid an animal or an object that's fairly unlikely especially since it was on an overpass. When driving a motorbike in Thailand one has to be hyper alert and taking chances with high speeds on Thai roads is like playing Russian roulette with three bullets in the chamber. I drive a motorbike but I drive a 350, and I wouldn't want a larger bike in Thailand, simply because I don't even want to be tempted to ride at very high speeds here.

It's called dark humour.

Testosterone in foreigners who think speed laws are not for them is to blame. I rode a motorbike for many years here and saw these guys zooming by thinking they were immortal rather too often.

Don't ride a motorcycle in a destruction derby.

At 55 years old, he should have known better.

All the pearl clutchers wagging their jaws and pointing their fingers without having the facts yet. Next up are the calls for deportation and banishment.

One thing's for sure: Mr. Heinz sure spilled a lot of ketchup.

A friend of mine bought a Ducati here a few years back. The dealership asked about his big bike experience, and he admitted to being pretty competent having owned HD's in the US, having bike licences and not having issues riding various sized scooters here for about 10 years. They still had him on a built-in, pre-programmed, automated, graduated power limiting regime that only 'opened up' incrementally after time/kilometers as experience was gained over time. This was explained as preventing novices winding it up and killing themselves (and being no longer available to make payments).

It's not a straight flyover, so maybe this guy decided to wind it up a bit as he ascended from the Pattaya side and the sudden torque caught him off guard (or he was somehow impaired) and he ended up on the wrong side of the road. The overpass isn't narrow.

Collision was roughly where this pickup truck is, Pattaya is in the distance.

I purchased my condo 50 metres from Naklua Road 12 years ago, the traffic then was ok. In recent years the traffic is very heavy most times with motor bike riders taking all of the awards for being total morons with no care for others including themselves. Over the festive season there was at least one ambulance evey hour or less. How many more I'm not sure as I was either out or asleep. The local heroes race up and down Naklua Road after midnight every night.

If you are driving a car, I would suggest you are quite safe from bikes. It's the drunk car / bus / truck driver that will be your biggest nightmare.

The only accident the last 20 years I've been involved in, was on the back of a motocy taxi, more than a decade ago. Decided never again, so I've always driven my own bike.

I trust my own decisions, and myself, more than these Bolts and Grab taxis.

To each their own, I guess.
