Rubio: US and Europe Must Remain United Despite Tensions

Featured Replies

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reassured European leaders at the Munich Security Conference that the US remains committed to its transatlantic alliance. Emphasizing a shared destiny, Rubio declared, "We do not seek to separate but to revitalize an old friendship."

Rubio's speech aimed to ease tensions, contrasting with previous criticisms from Vice-President JD Vance. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed Rubio’s remarks, finding them "very reassuring."

While affirming the alliance, Rubio criticized European policies on immigration, trade, and climate, referring to them as threats to civilization. He reiterated US calls for Europe to increase defence spending and self-reliance, stating, "We want allies who can defend themselves."

Rubio also addressed the need to rebuild international cooperation, singling out the UN for inefficacy in crises like Gaza and Ukraine. As US-Iran tensions rise, Rubio noted ongoing negotiations, with Oman hosting a second round of talks soon.

Amid conference discussions, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer emphasized the importance of Europe’s self-defense and deeper UK-EU cooperation, calling for "closer economic alignment."

Addressing the Russian threat, Starmer announced a joint initiative deploying NATO forces to the Arctic. This move responds to increased Russian military activity in the region, echoing President Trump's security concerns involving Greenland.

At the conference's periphery, 200,000 protesters rallied against Iran's government, following violent crackdowns on recent protests. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed skepticism about Russian intentions in Ukraine, calling Putin a "slave to war."

Zelensky resisted pressure for immediate elections under martial law, stressing the need for security measures and a ceasefire. European leaders, including Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, urged unity against Russia, advocating stronger European defense capabilities.

Frederiksen underscored the importance of respecting national sovereignty amidst discussions of Greenland. Concurrently, Finland's President Alexander Stubb highlighted the strategic value of Arctic NATO exercises.

Key Takeaways

  • Rubio emphasizes the US-EU alliance despite policy differences.

  • Calls for increased European defense amid Russian threats.

Still way too many words. Still way too little action. Oh dear.

Rubio should self reflect that the relationship with EU has been rock solid until his administration came in with a wrecking ball. The world was in a better place before Trump.

Rubio says the US wants to “revitalize an old friendship”. Telling Europe to shut the hell up and bend over is probably not the way to go about that.

Take a dump on Europes carpet then try and piss on their head but no worries we stilll love you and will keep our best buddy vlady in check and not let him invade you. Just trust us.

  • Popular Post

Maybe, just maybe stop threatening to invade the territory of a NATO state. That could be a good start to 'revitalize an old friendship'

  • Popular Post

Mind your own business and stay away from Greenland.

Stop protecting those pedos.

Doesn't take long before we see new rants from Vance and Don.

That's a bit of a selective memory. Obama, Snowden ... ring any bells ???

Seemed like every week for a while, Snowden would let Obama put a rope around his neck, then tighten it the following week. Way too funny.

"We have strong relationship with Europe" then wikileaks releases

... 'screw the Eu'

"We're not spying on our Euro partners"

.... "OK, we are spying on you"

"We not listening to your phone conversations"

.... 'OK, we are, but not your personal phones, I promise Chancellor,'

Next week ...

... "Ok, we are listening to your personal phone conversation"

If you and your boss will stop praising Hungary's president Orban, who clearly supports Russia, and stop praising right wing extremists in Europe, and the US administration will stop being a voice for Russian propaganda, maybe we would be united again.

Oh, I almost forgot, and stay away from Greenland, then we're good.

Perhaps Rubio's perspective is that Orban is as much of a bootlick toward Putin than he himself is to POTUS. Brothers in arms, sort of.

Europe and USA united?

When the USA threatens to invade and take over a free independent European "country", how can the 2 be united?

When the USA creates a trade war with Europe, and others, how can the 2 be united?

Completing his second term as POTUS.

The problem is what Rubio says and Trump does are complete opposites.

Words are cheap.

That law is racist,

We need a new law that allows Latino and Muslim migrants a chance to be President.

Marco Antonio Rubio was born in 1971 in Miami, Florida.[2] He is the second son and third child of Mario Rubio Reina[3] and Oriales (née García) Rubio.[4] His parents were Cubans who immigrated to the United States in 1956

He made a run in 2016 for prez

As America has been putting down countries in the EU, along comes Rubio to calm the waters. I think a lot of politicians may be trying to make friends now as they don't see a future for themselves.

Multiple reputable outlets reporting on the February 2026 document release list Marco Rubio among the 300+ politicians and public figures whose names appear at least once in the Epstein files.

Maybe doesn't mean much but makes sense to make friends for potential consultancy work down the road.

The UK and US need to distance themselves from the EU until they restore direct democracy and stop deliberately flooding the continent with people who wish to destroy them and their culture.

Notwithstanding the fact that the UK and US have no legal or moral justification for trying to impose a system of governance on the EU, what form would this 'direct democracy' take?

He's likely achieved a greater sense of European unity (or rather, the development of a Middle Power Bloc, but not of the sort he envisaged. A bloc, informal at the moment, with a population of 568 million people, nominal GDP of US$27trillion, a defence budget of about $400bn. Some define a Middle Power Alliance as something even larger.
