Welfare should be even then workers aren't unfairly disadvantaged or people with no kids aren't paying the meals of people with kids. The only specialist welfare should be disabled.

It is about whether life still has meaning for people who don't have a career and the sense of purpose that some people get from having one.
February 25Feb 25 You might need a purpose in life for it to have meaning, but I'd recommend you free yourself from the belief that life has to have meaning.Just live!
February 25Feb 25 Most work is meaningless. most people are comfort seeking. The more comfort they get, the less meaning they will seek.UBI will provide very bare comfort. The argument that people will then go on to live more philosophical and deeper lives freed of meaningless work reminds me of the optimism that cable TV in the Internet would make people want to learn more and attend government meetings either on TV or online online. But they did not. When these astonishing inventions happened., people wanted to watch porn, like I said, not that great comfort, but comfort all the same.
February 25Feb 25 The OP sounds complicated, the answer can be as simple as this: "The purpose of our lives is to be happy"...A way to be happy with the purpose of life to have a meaning can be, to move to Land-of-Smiles and just enjoy living one's life in full terms.AI is based on what humans already have done, If humans stop progress, AI will likely get into problems. However, AI can be great benefit and solution for boring checks and work on details, anything from checking Xrays and other illness; running through massive data bases; give fast reply in customer support; doing restauration of film and fotos deep into details, and even make a photo to a film or create new pictures based on other images; and much more. When the work is more artistic, like writing novels and scripts, or composing music and playing it, it's indeed mainly based on what humans has done before, and thereby an issue of copyright breaches or not. I don't belive that AI will outperform creative humans, but it will indeed save humans for some of their boring work and give space for something more crative or exciting. You might even create a new work title, just like Facebook has upgraded numerous profiles to so-called pro level, giving them all an amazing title as "digital creator".

There is three types of people to simply fie it, those who gets bored and end up in a destructive down spiral, or do nothing about it who stagnate, and those who get bored and do something about it. Boredom and lack of meaning is part of the life, it is how you go around it and make life meaningful that matters. Life is not black and white, you will find most people who most likely experience all three phases of after work life, but what have been interesting to see, is those who I connect with in Isaan, they all getting involved somehow with something, if not finding the bottles first, or just continue from where they came from.

You cant just say I want to be happy, it doesnt work that way. Happiness is a state of mind.It requires effort.Wanting it is not enough. That’s psychologically and philosophically groundedA good question is: Is happiness the goal — or is meaning the goal? I would say meaning gives happiness. Lets simply fie it, if the meaning of life is to stay healthy, eating healthy and have an healthy lifestyle, you create happiness ! ? And the more meaning of life you add, the more happy you will become? If you struggled with health before, become more healthy and mobile will create happiness because you experienced struggle and now solved it.

February 25Feb 25 UBI was first mooted way before AI became the thing. It was not intended to replace work altogether, but be an alternative to all the social services so many access in lieu of work.It was to be given to all regardless of whether they worked to suppliment it or not. It was enough to live off for those who didn't want, or couldnt , work. Switzerland seriously considered introducing it some years ago and held a referendum on it. The citizens rejected it by a large margin. I dont know how it would work, or if Musk even had an alternative for the peasants when he recently said many jobs would disappear because of AI..

You want more, and have it legislated for your lazy A$$, but sooner or later .... you'll run out of other people's money. Then what ...Relax.Don't "want more".At our age we should be pretty well set up if we paid attention along the way.Good health is the key.🙃🙃

February 25Feb 25 My son, a 50-year old principal scientist in Big Pharma in USA, tells me every person in the US used to need a million dollars to retire. That means a couple need $2M!Except that now, economists figure each American needs 1.5!Who wants to live with the stress of that?He figures he can retire in five years! Hope he can support the old man!

Lives in NJ, on his pension and dead wife's Soc Soc, and both reduced since retiring early. New wife will work a couple more years, but as a part time school bus driver. At a guess, same monthly income as myself. Owns home ~$100k + new truck.A work buddy just retired, also about 2 - 3 years ago, and lives on about the same as me <$2800 a month @ Corpus Christi, TX. Owns home $100+k + new cars.Ex wife, getting ready to retire next year, and just paid off her house, maybe $300k value. She'll be living on about $3000 a month also. Just bought a new car, and holidaying in the Keys at the moment.

February 25Feb 25 Stopped working at 44 and came to Thailand 20 years ago. Never worked again. People ask why I don't work, I tell them: "I'm lazy." that gets a wistful chuckle or two. Then I hear: "I could never stop working, I would be so bored." Then I say: "I have no boss, no work related worries. I have the time to exercise, eat right and take care of my body, don't drink or smoke. I have no wrinkles on my forehead from constant frowning, I have a full head of hair, my wife and I run 10k charity runs nearly every month. I have no paunch, instead I have an athletic build. At 50 I looked like a 30-something, at over 60 I look like a 50-year-old. What about you?"

While others starts to have fun later in life, getting lost or found, who knows what they are about?Dare to make an AI poem on my little words above hereIn youth, we are handed an invisible ledger of fortune — a finite inheritance of luck, time, and consequence yet unpaid. Every thrill, every reckless joy, every night that defies caution inscribes a debt against it. Pleasure is not innocent; it consumes what it cannot replace. The tragedy is not that we spend — it is that we rarely see the balance diminishing. Some exhaust their share early, mistaking intensity for invincibility. Others postpone their descent, saving their transgressions for a later hour, when the illusion of control feels safer. But when they finally step beyond the line — are they awakening at last, or merely unraveling more slowly? No one truly knows whether they are losing themselves or only meeting the self that was always waiting in the dark.
