Ait Ticket Needed For 30 Day Free Visa (visa On Enry)?

Featured Replies

A Thai embassy website in the UK says that you must have an international airticket out of Thailand within 30 days of your entry to obtain the 30 day free visa.

A friend coming to Thailand without a visa was not allowed to board the aircraft in the UK until she purchased an international ticket out of Thailand dated 90 days hence. But she says she did not have to produce this aurticket at Bangkok, nor at Ranong where she has just completed a visa run.

Anyone had experince of of this air ticket rule?

The general experience is: problem on boarding a flight, no problem if arriving in Bangkok. But if you can't board, you won't arrive. The only grey area I have about this is if you are flying in from a nearby country like Malaysia, I am under the impression that they usually will let you board figuring you are already in Asia and know what you are doing.

I think the airline lost the plot as well.

Why on earth was the ticket for 90 days hence?

An e-ticket from Air Asia is the easiest option.

A Thai tourist visa is even easier ... and gets over the problem.

I just flew from Manila to BKK with no Visa. They checked me for my flight out of Thailand in the Manila airport and in customs at the BKK airport. I only had my printed e-ticket receipt of my airline ticket to Singapore that was 28 days later. Had no problem.

I'm with the Doctor on that one. A tourist visa is easier, grants you a longer permission of stay and gives you more options for a reasonable price.

An electronic ticket is the only thing available nowadays. The paper tickets went the way of the dinosaurs on 31 May 2008:

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

It simply depends on how long you are planning to stay in Thailand, if it is less then 30 days at any one time, then I wouldn't bother with a visa, and buy a ticket (of course USING the ticket). If you are staying longer, or if you just want to get around the return ticket requirement, then it is cheaper to get a tourist visa, which would cost you around 30 euro back in Europe, there are not many tickets out of Thailand for that price.

The cheapest you might get is an Air Asia flight to Phnom Penh, which might only set you back around 2000 baht. Remember only the international departure tax is 700 baht.

So my girlfriend can do that? Come to Thailand with a one way ticket from Brazil and just get a tourist visa when she arrives? Will that work? Or does she already have to apply for the visa there and also get like an Air Asia ticket to a nearby country?

Is your girlfriend Brazilian?

Your questions were answered in another thread.

I don't mean to but in, but rather than starting my own thread for one silly question, can I still get the free 30 stamp thingy if I come to Thailand with a Kangaroo passport or will I need a tourist visa? I have not been there for a year and have not been keeping up to date with any visa stuff. Also, I have an e-ticket, would the reciept I can print out from my printer be enough to show as proof of onward journey out/ Thanks in advance.

E-ticket is fine. Flights may check. No governmental change in last year on this.

If it is a real outbound ticket ( they will check on the comp ) and has you departing Thailand within 30 days of arrival you will be fine.
