anyone know how many red shirts left at protest site

Here you will see a photocollection showing the Rajprasong protest area. It is updated with many new photos nearly everyday. The latest update is from yesterday. Make your own estimate on how many people are there.

From what I have seen a few hours ago it's about similar today. At this time there are usually less people on the street and most are still sleeping in their tents and under the shadows of the bts tracks, condominiums, hotels and shopping malls. Usually after 5pm the people start to get up and you will see many more on the street.

If I have got time today I will shoot some more photos and upload them.

Have a good look at all those people! These are the people the army will point their guns at.

Ratchaprasong

I'm just here to show. Photos tell more than a thousand words. I'm not here to discuss politics and I will not answer any comment.

Funny how that collection didn't include any of these guys...

Or their beloved leaders sleeping in air conditioned hotel rooms who knowingly put the lives of women and children in danger in order to avoid the consequences of their own cowardly actions.

should the <deleted> hit the fan tonight, i wonder if the Red Leaders will be leading the battle from the red side or conveniently be hidden away somewhere?

IMHO Abhisit should be given a medal for the restraint he has shown so far. These red leaders do NOT want negotiations, they want blood. If it's from they're own people, so be it. I'll be it wont be the leaders blood.

Agreed. Though there is the matter of April 10 of course. That may have been more Suthep's doing though.

You mean Sae Daeng's doing, Jatuporn's doing, Veera's doing. the rank and file reds that attacked 1st Reg and ThaiCom's doing, Arisaman's doing, Weng's doing .... and most importantly Thaksin's doing? That must be what you mean.

Thank you for the photos and for showing us the true faces of the "terrorists". :)

This tactic reminds me of the street beggars that use puppy dogs and young babies to illicit sympathy and support. It's sickening that a parent would willing put their child in this situation.

Calling the parents stupid justifies the army using live bullets against children and women?

Calling people stupid is probably a factor in the equation that got us to this point in the first place.

I think you could probably call them greedy as well, as they certainly wouldn't be there if they weren't paid to be there. Many are hoping I believe for that "golden injury" that rewards them from their leaders but doesn't incapacitate them too much.

More specifics released on tonight's festivities:

CRES to begin isolating UDD rally at 18.00 hrs today

BANGKOK, 13 May 2010 (NNT) – The Center for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) has drawn a deadline at 18.00 hrs today for the anti-government protesters to leave Ratchaprasong Junction, warning that countermeasures will be imposed.

During the press briefing this morning, CRES Spokesperson Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd declared that the authorities were ready to block the roads and cut off the water and electricity supplies in the Ratchaprasong area from 18.00 hrs today to pressure the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) demonstrators to vacate the rally site.

The facility systems are being altered to minimize the impact on the Ratchaprasong residents. Minister of Foreign Affairs Kasit Piromya has also ensured that the operation will not affect the 17 foreign embassies located in the area.

The procedure will be carried out at Ratchaprasong and its perimeter, including Pathumwan, Pratunam, Chid Lom, and Sala Daeng Intersections.

Phaya Thai Road, Phetchaburi Road, and Wireless Road will be closed to traffic and public transportation.

General commuters other than the local residents will be forbidden from entering the area.

UDD supporters who wish to leave the rally site can notify the officers for free transport back home.

All business operators have been asked to temporarily close their shops to facilitate the operation.

Col Sansern added that armored trucks would be sent in to prevent ill-intentioned individuals from instigating violence.

He affirmed that the vehicles would only be used as barriers in case of a terrorist attack to prevent damages and avoid unnecessary battles. However, armed forces will be deployed in the area to prevent untoward incidents.

I certainly would n't be inclined to call these people terrorists. Ignorant, hapless human shields, maybe.

There is the truth, the so called COWARD LEADERS WHO LEAD FROM THE BACK Arisman,, Jutaporn .Veera and the COWARD WHO LEADS FROM ABROAD are going to ensure they will all be well out of harms way if and when trouble begins.

They have been waiting, nay praying for the bloodshed of their duped innocent pawns just to sate their appetite for power revenge and the return ill gotten gains along with the return of rampant theft and corruption by the Sino Thai Kleptomaniac Thaksin his clan and their acolytes.

Hopefully a peaceful exodus will be the order of the day. Sad to say though judging by the rockets and probably an arms cache along with the ready prepared firewall innocent lives will be sacrificed to satisfy Thaksins. Jutaporns Arismans and Veeras blood lust.

Don't blame the prime minister or the government all the solutions put forward have been poo poohed by the Red Shirt Brigade to prolong the unrest and to cover their escape route when problems begin.

So if these women and children don't leave the protest area, do you still support the army using live bullets against them? :)

The army won't be using live bullets against them. The army will be using live bullets against the armed red thugs.

If the women and children get caught in the cross-fire, they only have themselves (or their parents) to blame.

Why would the army need to shoot at women and children

they have other means to control them

But if Red shirts with guns uses them as shields

What is the option

and who is the real murdered in this circumstance

Did I hear someone cry 'wolf' ?

One thing for sure , all THAI are the same SAY I DO and DO Nothing , same in Business , same in Government , that way no one can be accountable !! Its the Thai Way

Are you typical of all Canadians?

I say and do many things, man that blows your theory out of the water ;_)

Anyhow, I hope that somehow it doesn't turn into the blood bath that some of the red shirt leaders hope for.

Talking to the rellies upcountry, families have been told payment of 200,000b if the person dies or is injured to attend the rallies, plus daily payment.

One family has already received cash for someone already seriously injured before - so basically for some this is enough to go and attend the rally. 200,000b in savings in parts of Buriram is more than a family makes in 5 years.

It's just another dangerous job that the downtrodden end up doing, while the leaders, even Arisaman, are staying in fancy hotels eating decent food and getting WAY more than 200k.

Add to that the Buddhist belief in reincarnation and karma.

If you think you will come back then you won't worry as much about death.

If you live in the moment, then death tomorrow is just the karmic wheel saying times up.

Yes, a risky job, but the potential pay off for your loved ones is huge, and the daily benefits

by most reports are larger than most that would go could hope to make.

No infrastructure at home and so little industry or ease of transport to move products,

so no work.... Part of the Issan problem is location location location,

and lack of usable resources to improve the region.

Some correction, it isn't the Buddhist but the Hindu belief in reincarnation and rebirth specially in Esarn. Cambodia and his vasalle states had for a longtime Hindu-Kings. + "black magic" (blood sloshing we saw already)

Yes, and some purposely maim their children to extract more sympathy and donations. I understand Thaksin pays a bonus for maimings.

The Reds, like all other major groupings, must perceive the next election as free and fair.

The reds, like all other major groupings, must accept that the law is supreme in a democracy, and all elected representatives are subservient to it.

No matter how many spoils they offer you, you can not elect criminals who break the law to government. That is a responsibility of having the right to vote. And if you refuse to be responsible, you have to accept the consequences that come from it.

The reds need to learn this before democracy has any chance of success in Thailand.

Amnesty for these criminals is unacceptable. If that means the reds aren't ready for democracy, then we simply have to find an alternative form of government that can lead the country to peace and stability.

When the reds mature, we can talk about democracy again.

Gregb,

What a strange word; "DEMOCRACY" you use. Here in the sticks of rural Thailand ALL votes at ALL levels are bought and paid for. NO democracy, only the candidate with the most cash / backing wins.

Monks as protesters,

this is NOT buddha's teaching,

what are they thinking?

They aren't real monks as typified by this red monk at the rally:

25985101883159853134.jpg

Most gangsters, when the police gets too close to them, or immediately after a murder disappear up country and become a monk until the heat has gone. Killers, robbers can all be found in saffron robes - this one looks a typical example - real monks are not supposed to smoke and I wonder what is in the bag ? 9mm alms ?

There won't be differentiation. There will be bullets coming from the red side. The army will shoot back. People will get caught in the cross-fire.

If they don't want to get caught in the cross-fire, then they should get out.

Really, I didn't know many women were killed on April 10??? (please advise) and if they were, probably not just standing around waving hand clappers in between AK 47 fire and grenade launches were they. but you no doubt you can fill us all in on that.

The army have no need to fire their weapons unless in self defence

So if you’re a red shirt with no weapons and no person behind you with weapons, you have no problems

Yes, here they go. All of them [except that kid] are killing their Country.

ps: and yes, those ppl in orange togas (sorry, I cant call them "monks" - as they are not, anymore) they must be charged\punished x3 times, as they also forget and betrayed a monk's Dhamma (which PROHIBITS the monks doing what those orange-togged ppl are doing now and right in public).

many go to be a monk because there isn't a lot of work for them. if there's no work for their sister, she goes to work in the bar.

you see a lot of people in all religions not living the life

It is a very poor excuse of'em, isnt it?

Being a monk- is being a monk. I meant that. You cant be "partially" monk, "partially" at your own. You just CANT BE "partially pregnant" - you are OR you're not.

Especially for a Buddhist "monk" in a Buddhist country - acting like THAT in public place... It is SO OFFENDING. The monk has the right to wear the toga only IF he is following all (ALL, I repeating) monkhood's canons. Those on photos have lost (or never have??) ANY RIGHT to vear that coloured togas, and must be prosecuted even for this (in TH we have laws to punish ppl representing themselves as a monks, but not being in a monkhood). All and every monk and\or monastery will tell you these words.

And this is what I have to say here too.

Is this the final of all final ultimate finals again? Anybody ever follow through?

I can't help but echo the sound in agreement (wolf, wolf, wolf)

There are very few fat ladies in Thailand so this will never end.

You know what I mean; it'll be all over when the fat lady sings.

The army should just get stuck in.

Get JCB's with big buckets on the front and just go in and sweep everything up in front of them.

Anyone willing to stand in front of them will just end up in the bucket.

Don't forget to spray them with permanent colouring so that they'll be forever recognised as trouble makers.
