Where Is It Flooding ?

Still OK around Central Lad Prao and Chatuchak. I am in Vipavadee 16, which is 1.5 km south of Thai Airways/St John's Uni.

The klong near me is a tiny bit higher but not much.

The new report that Chatuchak area may be affected is, however, disturbing. If you go down from Chatuchak, you get to Saphan Kwai and then Ari. Ari is fairly central and has plenty of foreigners in nice condos, plus middle-class Thais. Ya-boo, I know that many people are worse off and I do feel bad for them...but once Chatuchak is affected, that means that the outskirts of the city centre start to be next in line.

However, it is quite far from Don Muang to Chatuchak. I hope.

Central Bangkok remains very dry.

No water anywhere along Thanon Pradit Manudarm (Ram Intra Expressway)

Ram Intra (304) is bone dry except for where it crosses the Khlong Prapa Canal (Thanon Prachachuen) near Laksi:

The canal is overflowing and the roads in this area are under a foot or two of water, but traffic can still get through.

Continuing West on Chaeng Wattana (304) the road is again dry until you cross the bridge over the Chao Phraya river at Pak Kret:

After the bridge Chaiya Pruek road is closed and only very large trucks can continue.

Next I headed North-East on Tiwanon Road (306) in the direction of Pratum Thani. Tried again to head west towards Bang Bua Thong on the 307 but again, after crossing the river the road is closed. Here the water was so deep that only boats could proceed-

Backtracked to the 306 and continued NE until just after the Khlong Prapa Canal at which point the road is deeply flooded and closed-

End of the line- only boats can continue north from this point:

Tried to get back to Vipawadee-Rangsit via Thanon Song Prapa road but it was flooded just east of the canal-

Large trucks were still getting through though.

Headed off shortly for a ride to Chacheongsao- will report conditions upon my return.

Informative post, I appreciate the time you took to put that together, that is my entire stomping grounds and tells me what I already speculated but couldn't confirm and that is basically we're cut off in this location unless you have a high truck. The water on Srong bra pa does look as if it's stopped flowing though and that's good news, now it just needs to drain off so I'm optimistic of being able to get some supplies in the near future if there are any available ?..

One question? You came back south from Tiwanon to Srong bra pa rd presumably underneath the toll rd there on the same road so maybe this question is moot, but is there access to the toll road once you pass Klong bra pa from where you took the jpegs? Looking back over your shoulder? It's very low there and was some of the first to begin flooding did they put in barriers and keep it dry?..

The traffic was very light and the toll booth were open, as in free.

edit: Strange how flood warnings have been dropped for Khannayao.

It's about time they're free, the roads here were flooding and they were still charging people on the Cheang Wattana toll road only days ago before they opened the flood gates. I posted about it then, maybe someone is reading? If so good to see they're paying attention..

For an area that is supposed to be elevated Don Muaeng, I am surprised that we have gotten so much water so quickly! There was no flooding here in 95! Water levels have remained the same here all day.

Kinda surprised too but it just illustrates how much water is out there waiting and the fact that the ground was completely saturated before it breached the Klong bra pa levy......

One must remember the water comes from North, it has to go through somewhere and I think if there's no barrier up North Bangkok - it will not 'over flow' into Don Muang. There's a very complicated canal, drainage system and they can close some "gates" to facilitate the water elsewhere.

To say it will not over flow Don Muang is already a bit after the fact as it has flooded some areas if you've been reading the on the ground updates. To some point you're correct but as they already discovered it will flood it (and quickly) should they open the gates too much and now they have gone back to controlling it again so now not likely to flood much more as long as there are no sudden breaches north of us as opening those gates took away our "comfort & safety zone"..

Re supplies, Max Valu Lak Si is still open and has some stock. Food land Lak Si still open and they're baking fresh bread every morning. If you can get there early enough there's plenty.

I don't think there's water in either. None in Max yesterday. I've just had 60l brought up from Samut Sakhon. The desalination plants are still going strong.

Ditto Ram Inthra from Chalong Rat Expressway exit to KM.8, Khannayao. Hot and sunny.

It's been so hot and dry in Bangkok over the last 4-5 days that the city has the water trucks out today watering all the green medians and whatnot. A bit surreal.

Chao Phraya water level at 5:30 pm today. Yesterday at 4:30 I measured the water level at 1/2 M below the top of our condo's wall and 1 M below the sandbags. I didn't measure it today, but it seems a bit higher than yesterday. Location is Lumpini PLace Narathiwas Chao Phraya located on Praram 3 road near the intersection with the Industrial Ring road, south of Narathiwas road. The river runs about straight north here.

Channel 3 News had a map and a pointer out and the reporter may have been saying that the water will reach Chatujak in two or three days (26th or 27th).

My salary deposit is scheduled for the wee hours of the 26th, which is when I plan to buy (what's left of) Tesco and Tops. I fully expect it to hit by noon Wednesday the 26th for that reason alone.

Shall we also start making predictions as to what areas/sois will get wet and when?

I think you are asking about access to the Bang Pa In - Pa Kret Expressway from Thanon Song Prapa, as seen in the picture below, yes?

The road and expressway access ramps on both sides were dry when I rode through last night. The flooding starts at the blue dot and extends to the east for an unknown distance:

Heading west the road is dry to Tiwanon (306).

But I see in the news that some of the flood barriers in this area were destroyed last night?

"Pheu Thai MP Keng Karun was responsible for demolition of a 1 kilometre section of clay wall near an intersection where Prapa Canal meets Chaeng Wattana Road, letting in flood water, Pak Kret district chief Wisit Phuangphet alleged yesterday.

Karun allegedly deployed five backhoes to destroy the wall at around 2am yesterday, claiming that it caused a number of villagers' home to be flooded. He initially threatened to destroy the section a few hours earlier but gave up after Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit and Pheu Thai MP Natthawut Saikua talked him out of it."

So, as I live in the Khlong Toey area, it seems like I will be fine off one way or another - if the flood gets really serious high here, someone might come with a jetski from the sea to pick me up.

What I really worry about now is the availability of supplies.

Are the any facts about that? Everything I see is a capital city of 12 million people thats totally drieing out - shouldn't the stocks start to rise now again after a few days?

Or are the supply lines/manufacturers broken?

Its really the biggest worry in moment, being stuck in a city of this size with no supplies seems like a really bad idea

Some minor flooding on Suwintawong Road (304) just to the east of Minburi, Bangkok.

They've got some big pumps running and seem to have it under control.

Some very minor flooding at the junction of the 304 and Thanon Chalong Krung. Beyond that the 304 is dry and in good repair, but most of the lower roads that branch off the 304 are flooded.

Kum Klao is nearly impassable, I think it may soon be nearly impossible to reach the Lat Krabang Industrial Estate... Rom Klao Road is still high and dry, but the water is getting quite deep on Thanon Chao Khun Tahan and Thanon Chalong Krung which are the only roads that lead to the Lad Krabang Industrial Estate... They are reinforcing the flood walls around the Lad Krabang industrial estate but no one seems to know if the water levels are going to go up, down or stay where they are...

Had lunch on the river in Chacheongsao and while the river is high, there is no flooding at all...

Supply lines are broken is the news I have. All distribution centers are to the north of Bangkok in the flooded areas. There are supply problems reported from as far away as Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Hua Hin and Pattaya. W

Holy smoke, you might have a very valid point here. When all the Thais get paid in a few days, there might be a run on ATM's and supermarket.

This is a great map Swelters, just the sort of thing that the government should be producing.

I went ahead and signed up for twitter, but the image there is just a low resolution as it is here. Could you post a higher resolution image on flickr or photobucket? The first time I looked at it I just about had to change my pants, but on closer inspection I'm pretty sure that I'm in a light blue zone, not a dark blue zone. I've sealed up one door, sandbagged the other, disconnected the only power socket that was lower than waist high & moved the car, so I am prepared for 1 - 2 feet of water, but if I'm in the 3'+ zone, I'll change my strategies entirely (ie. pack up the car & get the hell out of Dodge! ).
