I strongly suggest you treat each other in a civil manner. Just as sanctions are on the table, so also are suspensions.

War Imminent in Straits of Hormuz? $200 a Barrel Oil?

" Washington’s concept of squeezing a country’s government by interfering with its energy policies has a dolorous history seven decades old.

When Japan invaded Vichy French-ruled southern Indo-China in July 1941 the U.S. demanded Japan withdraw. In addition, on 1 August the U.S., Japan’s biggest oil supplier at the time, imposed an oil embargo on the country.

Pearl Harbor occurred less than four months later."

iran having nukes would stop war with them.

You assume Iran has rational leadership. I reckon you are pro Iran. That's OK. I detest their regime and would love to see it toppled. Saudi doesn't trust Iran and thus would begin a major proliferation of such weapons in the region.

certainly not pro iran's government but certainly not pro starting a war with them either. If you are pro war you should sign up.

Perhaps the US is not the real aggressor in this instance...

Iran threatens action if U.S. carrier returns: IRNATEHRAN

(Reuters) - Iran will take action if a U.S. aircraft carrierwhich left the area because of Iranian naval exercises returns to the Gulf, the state news agency quoted army chief Ataollah Salehi as saying on Tuesday.

"Iran will not repeat its warning ... the enemy's carrier has been moved to the Sea of Oman because of our drill. I recommend and emphasize to the American carrier not to return to the Persian Gulf," Salehi told IRNA.

"I advise, recommend and warn them (the Americans) over the return of this carrier to the Persian Gulf because we are not in the habit of warning more than once," the semi-official Fars news agency quoted Salehi as saying.

Salehi did not name the aircraft carrier or give details of the action Iran might take if it returned.

If Obama expects to have any credibility in the Arab world, he will turn that Carrier Battle Group around and head back to Bahrain. Now is the time to call their bluff.

If Iran blocks the straits or build a nuclear weapon and violate the treaties that they have signed, THEY are declaring war and need to be stopped.

did you say that when Israel or the US break international law?

Iran has threatened to block the Straits of Hormuz. Of course, the US has the right to counter that threat.

Why, is it U.S territory?

This is the G W Bush maxim, if you are not in favour of attacking them you must be pro Iran. Intellectual pygmyism. But of course Dubya was a draft dodger, along with most of the other warmongering neo con chickenhawks, Cheyney, Wofowitz, Rumsfeld etc. Even good old Bill o Reilly was one. They don't come much nuttier than that lot. Bush invaded Iraq to stop Gog and Magog from unleashing their fury on the Middle East, with Rumsfeld attaching warlike quotes from the Old Testament to his war reports to Bush. Five star general Wesley Clark summed it up in his lecture in California in 2007. Regime change is the order of the day, get that Rothschild central bank installed in Tehran. Your other point is an excellent one. How about passing a law that makes it compulsory that close family members of Senators, Congressmen, Members of Parliament etc voting for war would automatically be drafted to the sharp end, provided they are of eligible age. That would concentrate their minds wonderfully!

Exactly. What the US learned from vietnam - another pointless war, started by a false flag and one that roosevelt warned jfk to avoid, is that to ensure public apathy, DO NOT HAVE A DRAFT. All these war mongers should take a trip up to Laos and go to an American mine field.

like your signature btw. The media cover what they feel like. The 'under pants' bomber eg was a false flag and a Detroit lawyer testified as much and although CNN or equivalent covered it, no one seemed phased. People still think 'can't be'.

Yes I agree Iran should not have nukes, back to same old question. If Israel can have then then why should not the rest of the middle east have then ??

To answer the question - because Israel is a responsible country run by adults and Iran isn't.

IF Israel has nukes, they are the model of how a country with nukes should behave. They have never threatened their neighbors with them even though they are surrounded by countries who want to push them into the sea. Saudi Arabia isn't complaining about Israeli nukes but they are worried about Iran having them - why? Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria also don't complain about Israel having nukes. None of these countries are racing to develop a nuke of their own to counter balance the dreaded Israelis. Once Iran declares it has a nuke, the race for nukes will begin. Again, WHY?

yes and no. The saudis etc are paid puppets of the west. Israel constantly breaks international law. But yes iran having nukes is bad news.

An off-topic post has been removed.

This topic is about Iran. It is NOT about Israel, per se. It is not about anti-semitism.

Topics such as this will wobble around a variety of issues, however, there still is an OP and there still is a topic. Stay on it, please.

This is bleeding into thinly veiled anti-semitic conspiracy theories. If you don't believe me, simply google Rothschild banking conspiracy and watch the wacko web sites appear. Same rhetoric. No place here!

If you really believe Obama is putting sanctions on Iran because he is a puppet of the Rothschilds, there are plenty of openings on the conspiracy theory forums.

who said the banksters are Jewish? Rothschild might be but the WASP skull and bones, Rockefeller etc are not. The jibe of anti-semitism is used by the non Jewish banksters to protect them! The Israel government happen to be Jewish, so what? I am British but am not responsible for Queen Victoria or Rhodes. Most conspiracy theories i have heard say MI6 do all the hits anyway!

If the current and 2 past Mossad chiefs are not concerned about an Iran nuclear threat, I do not understand why a bunch of arm chair quarterbacks would be so concerned. These people are paid a bunch of money and have access to a wealth of information; to not listen to them does not make sense to me.

Tamir Pardo says Israel using various means to foil Iran's nuclear program, but if Iran actually obtained nuclear weapons, it would not mean destruction of Israel.

http://www.haaretz.com/print-edition/news/mossad-chief-nuclear-iran-not-necessarily-existential-threat-to-israel-1.404227

Last week, former Mossad directors Meir Dagan and Efraim Halevy sharply warned Israeli Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu and his defense minister against attacking Iran. According to the influential Israeli newspaper Haaretz , the Netanyahu government tasked the Shin Bet, Israel's domestic intelligence organization, to probe a series of media leaks suggesting that the PM is lining up his ministers for an internal vote on whether to attack Iran.

Gosh, this thread has grown the magical feet that walk it into the land of lunacy.

There are no need for magical conspiracies when the Iranians are quite capable of undertaking their own plots. I suggest close attention be given as to who was arrested in Iran yesterday. Can you say power struggle?

In respect to the other post purporting to show ignorant US nationals, big deal. I could walk into a village in India and most likely no one could name more than 1 or 2 Indian cabinet ministers, or a US state capital. if I walked into Nanjing and asked a few of the locals what language Austrians spoke or who the members of the Chinese politburo were, I would get a blank stare. If I walked down Tehran's main street and asked a local who the mayor of Mashad was, how many people would know the answer. (Mashad is Iran's 2nd largest city.)

In respect to your post, there is a reason why they are former directors. Under their watch there were several screwups.

A ridiculous statement. So now any former head of Governments opinion is to be ignored and the opinions of the unqualified masses taken instead if said head of Government made some mistakes during their 'watch'!

Not me. Khomaini ran me out.

I think he may be referring to the daughter of former Iranian president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani who was sentenced yesterday to six months in jail over anti-regime propaganda.

Beat me to it. I did find that late November last year Ahmadinejad's press aide was arrested and roughed up by police, though this would suggest there is a power struggle between the conservatives and ultra-conservatives rather than any reformers - still it demonstrates yet another reason why Iran should not have nuclear weapons.

Posted (edited)

Yes, amazingly Ahmadinejad is relatively moderate compared to the clerical leadership.

Pesky liberal annihilationist. sad.png

Actually in their reading of the so called Arab spring I have to agree with Iran - they are indeed the vanguard of a mentally ill ideology. Enter the 12th Iman, a lot less far fetched than some of the other tinfoil hat offerings on this thread.

The Arab Spring is turning into an American Winter, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, believes. Countries from Tunisia and Egypt to Yemen and Bahrain, he insists, are struggling to overthrow ties to the West and embrace Islamist movements, which in the end will look to Iran for leadership.

Faezeh Hashemi, the daughter of former Iranian president, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, was sentenced to six months in prison for making anti-government statements, semi-official Mehr News Agency reported Tuesday. She was officially rearrested and taken to prison. The former Iranian President is opposed to the Iranian aggressive tactics and his daughter has been active in the anti government protests..

My apologies for being obtuse.

Thanks GK, I actually Googled arrests in Iran.....They REALLY arrest a lot of people.

Apparently when obtuse meets uninformed then a puzzle develops!

I hear these two directors might have relatives who at one time worked for the Bonnier media group in Sweden so I wouldn't believe anything these two say. wink.png

More saber rattling from Tehran.

Iran's parliament said Wednesday it was preparing a bill that would prohibit all foreign warships from entering the Persian Gulf unless they received permission from the Iranian navy.

http://www.washingto...WYaP_story.html

I sometimes despair with the thought that goes in to some posts. How can they be saber rattling particularly 'more'. We in the West have just imposed unilateral sanctions on them causing a massive slump in their economy and the 'drying up' of oil shipments. What do you expect them to do. We are provoking them over something that has been stated quite clearly does not yet exist. What's that phrase called...??? ah that's it 'blowback'. I agree with a couple of the posters on here in that if a few of the right wing posters in here, the ones always gunning for a fight had to enlist and be a part of the initial ground phase in to Iran then you would not be war mongering right now. I have done my time fighting for Queen and country in the sandpit, and seen friends die, all for what? The bidding of corrupt politicians. I MUCH prefer the diplomatic non combatitive attempts at conflict resolution first.

Posted (edited)

Sanctions are the non-combative strategy. Obviously, Iran isn't just going to sit down and negotiate not developing nukes. That is clear. So between that impossible fantasy and war, what's left? Sanctions. Will they work? I don't think so. Clearly, some people here think it is OK for Iran to get these weapons and/or support them in doing so out of opposition to Israel and/or America. Nobody believes that even you believe Iran will just agree to not doing this without outside pressure. People who are asserting that Iran isn't working on this program have no credibility. Also, what I find silly is people directly comparing Iraq and Iran, as if they were the same situation. The Bush war in Iraq was a mistake. In my view, letting Iran get this far was also a mistake. Different situations. Each with its own unique complexities.
