We decided to try La Taverna del Passatore tonight. I have to say we were underwhelmed. Prices are good and portions are large, but the puttanesca I had was mediocre. I asked for it with tagliatelli and they were out of it. I also tried their sausage. They were out of mashed potatoes. The sausage was salty and a bit undercooked. My bf's "special" seafood pasta was not good at all. We both decided it was not a place to return to.

Were they on the specials board...that's where the freshest stuff will be found. It's a small operation so probably best to ask for a suggestion of what's good or order off the board.

My bf's special seafood is what was recommended, but it wasn't good. I fail to see how ordering from the board would make the sausage be cooked properly or be less salty.

Update on The Place Israeli Restaurant.

They have upgraded the space. It now has two areas. Outdoors AND an enclosed aircon interior. Prices have not been raised.

Apparently the only country that does that dish as standard that way.

Regarding Chicken Schnitzel, yes they do Israeli style Chicken Schnitzel (also fish) at 150 baht including a nice Middle Eastern salad and a side starch of choice of potatoes or rice. They seem to sell a lot of schnitzel there.

I was just there this weekend to have the hummus with spiced beef and I really do love it. It's hardly cheap at 130thb considering the portion is small and even the pita is small. I normally pay about 60thb for a much larger portion of hummus and a much larger pita bread. I really do like it though but wish it was a larger portion or a cheaper price.

I have meant to try the hummus served with mushrooms which is a tad cheaper but every time I go there I can't help but order the one with spiced beef.

I noticed falafel for sale at that small Indian/Arabic restaurant in Central Beach mall.

I asked them what the picture of the sauce was that come with it. Tomato sauce, ketchup, he said. Passed on that.

I always only receive 1 naan and my portion of hummus and meat is much smaller.

In the menu OMG it only said meat hummus. I made notes to ask which meat after reading earlier in this thread about organ meats which i didnt fancy, but once there a Thai waitress took my order & i couldn't be bothered with the likely confusion with trying to explain this, so just ordered the only meat option. Im no food connoisseur but it tasted like meat off the bone to me.

Aren't you excited?

New restaurant area and mall in North Pattaya, located across from Amorn "Chinese" restaurant directly and more roughly across from Drinking Street, so that's the beach road side of 2nd road, north of Big C.

It's a very new and modern open air type walking strip mall kind of concept. Mostly empty now but obviously, many more businesses to come, and right now two of the existing businesses are SPANKING NEW (slap slap) restaurants worthy of mention.

Korean BBQ and Korean restaurant

Features all you can eat "Pork Party" 5 pork options to BBQ on your table for 299 baht

All served with six banchan (kimchi and other stuff), which are the same everyday, but they are good and varied banchan.

Beef BBQ items a la carte and not cheap, as expected.

Also on offer a limited number of soup/stew options from only 150 baht up to 250 baht. ALL include all you can eat banchan.

The service is overwhelmingly welcoming. You've been warned, ha ha.

No this isn't the best Korean restaurant in town and it isn't the worst. But what it is is a very nice coherent package, with an easy to understand menu, and the featured "Pork Party" all you can eat BBQ offer. I think it is a great addition to the already very rich Korean restaurant scene in town. If only we had this quality and quantity for Chinese and Mexican food ... oh well.

Some other comments. Yes it is more expensive than a Thai Moo Kata. That's because this is a REAL Korean restaurant.

You might ask which is the best Korean restaurant in town? I certainly don't know as there are so many and I haven't been to them all, and I've got to make a confession now that I am NOT Korean, but for the places I have tried to my taste the best Korean food I have had in town has been at the place talked about on this thread (YURAK Restaurant off Sukhumwit):

Just a bookmark here as I haven't eaten there yet. But I can say it features the most robust South Indian menu in town even compared to Saras. Also it is not only vegetarian, unlike Saras. It appears very promising and I plan in eating there when I get the chance.

Here is a tip on a good SPECIFIC DISH. Rather than a recommendation for the restaurant and the rest of its menu per se, which it is not.

Laziko Turkish Kebab Pide & Pizza

Pattaya New Plaza, 2nd Road, approx opposite soi 8.; a bit further north than Central, opposite side of 2nd road

Go for the Spinach and Cheese (stuffed) pide. 149 baht.

I love spinach baked in stuff. This dish fulfills that need.

The pide is medium sized, a meal for one moderately hungry person, stuffed into delicious fresh baked long and narrow dough, cut into pieces. It has lots of spinach and just a little neutral tasting cheese. No it is not feta cheese. I would like this dish also with feta cheese but no it isn't. In any case, this dish is mostly about the spinach and the dough, and I like that just fine. The pide is sliced into manageable pieces and topped with tasty sesame seeds. Served on pieces of wood. Charming! Pide you may know as more of an OPEN FACED type thing. This is not. It is stuffed.

Just found this place, and was pretty impressed. 10 meters from the beach, J & J Cafe is a cool & comfortable place to have a tasty snack or meal. We sat on a sink-in-and-relax sectional sofa, ordered drinks and food and had a very relaxing and tasty lunch, sea breeze & all. Recommended are the Spinach, Ham & Cheese Poppers (129 baht); 1/3 pound Cheeseburger with onion, lettuce & tomato (99 baht); Breakfast Toasty Sandwich of bacon, egg & cheese (79 baht) and The Works Omelet with ham, cheese, sausage, onions, home fries & toast (189 baht). They also have English Muffins (30 baht), PB & J Toasties (49 baht), Chicken Nuggets with sauce (99 baht), Hot Dog & French Fries (99 baht) & a lot more. They also have a full bar, which gets pretty busy in the late afternoon.

Yes I have stopped by multiple times. It is definitely a major operation but they are very slow in opening. A chain of some sort, probably international. For some weeks now they look as if they're about to open and even have employees in uniform hanging about in the front, but not open. In early August I asked one of the staff when they will open and she said one more month. So if that's correct then in early September or possibly already open if she was wrong. What a buildup, huh? It better be good. No, I haven't had superb bibimbap in Pattaya as yet.

Have you had any in Pattaya? The one I had in Bangkok was in a completely non suspect (Korean) coffee shop in one of the malls. We just wanted a snack and it was the first time I came across this dish. Since then I saw it at several of these kind of shops in Bangkok. I didn't get the name though, but I don't' recall ever seeing any of these shops in Pattaya.

Something I found : restaurant Split in Soi Chayapruek. According to the owner the only "Yugo" in Thailand. The owner is from Yougoslavia, lived then 20 years in Germany where he was running several restaurants and came to Thailand a couple of years ago.

We had the grill platter. Not bad, maybe a tad too salty. Djuvec rice, cevapcici, all you would expect, including the yulicka after. The platter is 490 Baht, feeds two people and a three year old. uploadfromtaptalk1356740850761.jpg

There is newish restaurant called Good Rich Kitchen near the end of Chayapruk 1. Coming up from the beach, its on the right and is the last before arriving at Suk. Specialties are Vietnamese and Honk Kong dishes.

Tried the Pho Bo a few times and it was always excellent. She, who must not be obeyed, but never ignored either, said it was on par with Vietnam ---- praise indeed --- she ate it for breakfast and dinner in Vietnam, so is somewhat of an expert.

They also have lots of Duck dishes --- but not being a duck lover, my view would not be worthwhile.

Pho Bo was 45 baht for small bowl and 55 for large ---- pretty reasonable IMHO
