PHUKET: -- Phuket immigration today arrested for illegal entry a British man who had been working on the island as a realtor, a profession reserved for Thais, since 2011.

Richard James Daffund, 44, was picked up by police as he walked along Phuket Road, just several hundred meters from the Phuket Immigration Office.

The Englishman was recognized by police, who notified immigration, Capt Angkarn Yasanop of Phuket Immigration said.

Capt Angkarn, along with Phuket Immigration chief Sunchai Chokkajaykij and immigration officers, set out to find Mr Daffund.

“We spotted a man who matched the description of Mr Daffund and asked for his passport. He could not produce it, so we took him to the Phuket Immigration Office,” said Capt Angkarn.

“According to our records, Mr Daffund entered Thailand in December 2010 and left in January 2011. We have no records for him after that date,” he said.

He confessed that he had entered Thailand illegally through Malaysia in 2011 and had been working in Phuket as a realtor, he said.

“He will be transferred to Bangkok to be deported,” he added.

I'm sure I have seen many foreign real estate agents here, unless the term "realtor" means something different in Thai.

PHUKET: -- Following the arrest of Canadian James Nelson for his two-and-a-half-year overstay in Phuket, Immigration police today arrested another foreigner.

In this case it was British timeshare salesman Richard James Daffurn, 44, who was arrested following a tip-off, as he walked along Phuket Rd in Phuket Town.

Pol Capt Angkarn Yasanop of Immigration Police told The Phuket News, “In fact, we had been told that he was staying in Patong but today we ran into him in Phuket Town, walking down the road.”

When asked to show his passport Daffurn was unable to do so, so the officers took him to the Immigration Office.

Immigration records showed that he had entered Phuket on December 12, 2010, then had flown out on January 28, 2011. There was no record of his re-entering the country after that.

Daffurn admitted that he had crossed into Thailand from Malaysia later in 2011. He was charged with living in Thailand illegally and was sent to Phuket City Police Station.

Sure he is only 44? look a lot older more like 64. If he entered the country illegally I guess he has upset a rival who has alerted the immigration authorities, He may have been better off setting up his business elsewhere in the country where it is not so cut throat. Why are the other 3 guys standing behind him if he is merely talking to one guy? oh photo op sorry.

Well done, Immigration. Keep up the good work. thumbsup.gif

44 years old? More like 64, either that or he's had a hard life.

Looks like he is spewing out his Time share spiel to the immigration officer !!!! 44 ur havin a laugh more like 64 !!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps he walks out of Suvarnabhumi airport and takes a bus to Koh Chang this time.

44 years old? More like 64, either that or he's had a hard life.

Remember he had no ID. He is just matching the info he put on his dating website. in case his honey's see him in the paper. It also makes it harder for immigration to track who he "really" is.

So, is Real Estate Agent an occupation reserved for Thai's, or not????

What about Property Management????

I am so happy to see people like this get caught, biggrin.png because I am so jealous when I see people like this guy drive around Pattaya in their Hummers and Lamborghini's, I am not making the any way near the sorts of money they are raking in so catch em all is what I say.clap2.gif

I understand that he will be deported and probably will have to pay a a fine for his illegal entry. But what about working without a Work Permit. No penalty?

Cheerio ole chap back to blighty for they.

I thought the UK was full of illegal immigrants, seems its just as bad here now a days.

I bet it is not. The uk could learn from Thailand.

I hope, that before they are deporting him, he has to stay a year or two in "Bangkok Hilton" because he entered Thailand illegally and than they can send him home, with a big stamp "Never to return to Thailand" clap2.gif

Try reading the text properly, do you know what comma's are for? "as a realtor, a profession reserved for Thais, since 2011."

There is a difference between a realtor and real estate agent (in America anyway) Quote: "A real estate agent is a generic term for someone who helps people sell and/or buy real estate. A Realtor is a real estate agent that has taken special classes to earn the REALTOR® designation. A broker typically is the deal maker in a real estate transaction who works for the *seller* and keeps the seller's interest in mind. A buyer's agent helps people looking to *buy* real estate and keeps the buyer's best interests in hand. A real estate agent often works for both sellers and buyers, often in the same transaction."

When these clowns approach me I ask can I see your work permit to ensure you are on the up and up. A funny looks comes across their face and they are gone.

They are right across the country

It is something wrong with "profession reserved to Thai people".......The director of the biggest real estate company in BK...is from UK.

Daffurn showing the size of the fish he caught that morning and is willing to give to immigration if they let him go...

(typo edited)

My understanding is that a foreigner can "own" a realty company (well, "49%" of one at least) but is not allowed to buy/sell property. He has to hire Thais to do the "actual" buying/selling.

so this is the second overstaying real estate guy to go down in as many days. first the canadian, now this guy.

must be coincidental
