Thai 'Red Shirt' leaders end rally after violence

Recommended Posts

Can someone please explain to me what's currently going on at Ramkhamhaeng. I keep reading reports of trapped students and students being evacuated. How are they trapped? Reports aren't very clear - is it because of Red Shirts or the fact that the road is closed?

Apparently the students (blackshirts) blocked the exits from the stadium and there are snipers so the reds are crawling out literally round the back

What? This is even for you a new low.
And I know this because my stepson's father from Chiangmai is one of those crawling out. Very scary. More to follow. Snide comments aside you Sit tight in your condo .

Perhaps channel 7 will be broadcasting Suthep wall to wall soonThey're attempting to control the media

I can guarantee this is not true

I dunno, Parrot - it never occurred to me that you might have a Thai Red shirt family. What a surprise!

Sadly Timwin the Red Shirt movement hijacked a grass roots movemant to pursue Thaksins cause. I live in Isan and I assure you that in our village and the surrounding villages there is no love for Thaksin and his corrupt crew

The problem is that the Yellow leadership would care even less about the poor peasants. All they want is the old Bangkok crooked ways back, where the peasants in Isaan and elsewhere "knew" their place and did not dare to revolt. Or if they revolted once in two decades, the army crushed them mercilessly.

There are no easy answers because the Bangkok elite supporting the Yellows is so arrogant, not willing to level the playfield to become fairer for all Thais. At the same time the Red leadership is tainted and crooked on its own way.

The military have moved all the relevant pawns into place, Yinluck is on the move/run. The governance (lol) of the country is in transition, the reds realise this will never end to their satisfaction and wisely withdraw from the field. The end game is now being played out.

That is contrary to what's been reported. If you have links to prove this, we'd love to see them.

Interesting to note that the reds are just herded to attaned rallies and herded off when they are not required. And mind you these constitute the majaority of the electoral force. So can someone please explain to me how we can achieve democracy when these people are involved in voting.? (note that small sum of monies buy them to come and attend rallies, votes, etc.).

Interesting also to note the appearance of the men in black again who were shooting at the students at Ramkhamhaeng University this morning. It only confirms that the last time in 2010, it was the reds who shot their own kind.

Where are they supposed to go? To their hotel rooms?

This is like two pigs, both having a deadly scorpion sitting on its back, fighting about which one is a better leader!

Much the same style as your posts in support of a clique that is corrupt and self serving.

''The peasants'' as you so call them in our village and my wife and our children are peasants too according to your sanctimonious pompous self opinionated judgement and I suppose by association I am a peasant too,and bloody proud of it as well.

The peasants are you would find out if you spoke to them are somewhat better informed that you are as to the reality of the situation and the rampant corruption and abuse of power by this current puppet government.

Simple questions they ask , '' like when do we or are we going to be paid for our pledged rice as it seems both the B.A.A.AC. and the government haven't got the money as it's been siphoned off elsewhere.

Simple minded peasant souls in your eyes ask pertinent and awkward questions and expect action in payment.

It really seems amazing that those posters who have the most dramatic and polarized opinions of the goings on, also just happen to know so many situations personally happening to them which undoubtedly proves their point of view correct!cheesy.gif I would not accuse you of lying, but its a hell of a coincidence. Let me guess all of the people in your village think all the PTP ministers are red shirt acolytes, and all in the Democrat Govt are fighting for democracyclap2.gif

One of the main polarized opinions seems to be yours :)

Why the need to ridicule somebody because he disagrees with you?

The fundamental problem with the debates within these forums and within Thai society is the failure to understand that that 'Democracy as recognized in most western countries is just alien to Thailand. It has no history of any meaningful democratic politics.Democracy as perceived by Thais and westerners will not resolve Thailands problems. Taking out the taksin dynasty will help local politics to revert to some sort of stable governance whilst the long term future of Thailand as it is currently constituted evolves as there are a number of elephants in the room that no-one refers to.

Call from Surat Thani - many people being offered 1000 baht per day to go to Bangkok to support Sutheps Yellow Shirt/PAD/Democrat violent thugs attempts at overthrowing a democratlcally elected government.

They are getting really desperate now for reinforcements from the South.

Red 2013 himself giving "evidence" of Red tactics amongst the anti-government demonstrators.

I very doubt your source Maggie, as these people are there because they believe in their cause, not like your beloved mob who simply high-tail it back North once the cash stops flowing....!

At least one side is showing some maturity and common sense and wants an end to the violence. Now if only the yellow shirts would grow up and follow the lead and put an end to this Kaos.

It certainly does look like that. Up until now the anti government protesters have held the upper hand as they have largely avoided violence which has made it difficult to take much action against them. If this continues their advantage could be lost and the red shirts and pro government protesters will have the moral high ground.

Obviously most of the anti government protesters aren't at all violent but it only takes a few change the perception of the rest. I live in Isaan and there are red shirt supporters all around including a couple in my family but I've never met a violent one. The problem with the red shirts is the ones who tend to favour violence seem to be in the leadership which looks worse. This decision at the stadium is a lot better and can only do them some good.

I'm still not sure about your reference to yellow shirts. There may be some but they're just jumping on the bandwagon as they don't seem to be all that relevant now. They were the ones protesting at former governments for being Thaksin proxies but they've been quiet up to now about this one despite it looking more of a proxy than the others. I think they may just have seen a chance to be important again but if this turns more violent it may be short lived.

Let's hope for a peaceful resolution.

Before the 1997 constitution Thai politics was fragmented. Coalition parties crossed the floor at the drop of a hat and no one could expect to stay in power very long which acted as a sort of constraint in itself. The constitution writers saw that as a weakness and deliberately made it difficult for smaller parties to survive. Enter Thaksin who bought up all the provincial parties owned by Chinese godfathers, who also ran the illegal logging and underground lotteries, since they understood that under the new constitution is was better for them to be alligned with one monster party that combined the attributes of the old style provincial Chinese triads with the those of large modern corporations.

Take Thaksin and the Shinawatra clan out of the equation and PT is likely to fragment and go back to being the separate parties or factions under local provincial Chinese triad bosses. Perhaps Thaksin cronies who own large corporations will try to form their own parties. Whatever, removing the concentration of power, money and influence from the hands one amoral individual in Dubai could only be a healthy development.

Very clever move by the "reds" .

Ball in your court Suthep, he is now in a tough spot with a big rug pulled from under him.Needs to man up and admit he has lost again and let the country get back to Thai normal.

He can now join the amnesty crowd as he must have broken a boatload of laws.

If anything this solidifies Suthep's movement. The reds are herded away because they cannot control themselves to be in a civilized protest.

Yeah like Suthep is a clean guy, right. Read http://www.scmp.com/news/asia/article/1369801/thai-protest-leader-suthep-son-elite-axe-grind

But how is Suthep going to create the situation for the army to step in?

Seeing is believing & what have they achieved by just dropping everything and going home??? Why even have the protest to start with !!?? Strange

It's quite a good article.

Thank you for the link.

The picture depicts quite good what is happening, with yellow thugs parading with his picture. But the cartoonist rendered Suthep a bit too favorably. He looks much uglier than that in reality :D

If you allow me to quote it, I especially liked this part:

"I don't think he is a clever man," said Pitch. "He's like the guy who goes into a casino and bets on everything.

"He's just pressuring the government and hoping the protests work. It's irrational."

Very good article. Thank you ;)

Thida said, "let people return home." ???? Which means they are "free" to remain, if they want? I'll believe they're leaving when we see firm evidence for it.

It also means that they were there under duress or some sort of obligation unless Thida was addressing the protesters asking for free passage for her mob..

By the leaders telling them to go home

The leaders are not responsible for what happens from now on

Be careful in Bangkok today

I am going to Church today to pray for peace

I advise all Thia Visa to do the same

You assume all TV members are Christian?

Sorry I met to say all of us should pray now is the time for prayer

I'm a strict atheist. What can I do now??

Cross your fingers and hope you got it right! Otherwise you might be in deeper poo than Pu !!

Kudos for you.

How it would be good if people could really have the power to change things, but people here is just puppets for the big fish.

Thaksin, Suthep, or anyone of the rest of the corrupted and greedy elite.

The Government and Thaksin supporters have left the field to the protesters. The tail of the Hydra has been vanquished, now for the many heads.

Maybe having the reputation of being a party of vandals is a cross too heavy to bear and they didn't want to add to the load. The notion that the Thaksinistras have lost a lot of support is very appealing.
