BANGKOK, Dec 16 – The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will probe an allegation against 20 financiers who supported the anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), a senior official said.

DSI director Tarit Pengdith said he received a complaint from Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit, seeking a investigation into the list of 20 people and private companies who have financially supported the PDRC activities.

Mr Prompong’s complaint was also submitted to the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO).

AMLO secretary general Seehanat Prayoonrat said he would check if Mr Prompong had enclosed the names of 20 financiers, adding that there must be sufficient evidence to freeze their financial support.

Mr Prompong said the financiers should stop their support now that a general election has been officially announced.

“The DSI and AMLO must take legal action against the financiers, or they could be charged with ignoring their duties,” he said.

The government has set the general election for February 2. (MCOT online news)

Yes, and found no link at all.

Are the protests now actually deemed to be "illegal"?

Resurrecting this old bit of news again.

Nothing will come of it, they have done nothing wrong, unless this new bit of legislation invented for this purpose actually stands up in court, which it won't.... 'charged with ignoring their duties'..... indeed.

Desperate measures. Will come to nothing at all.

"Mr Prompong said the financiers should stop their support now that a general election has been officially announced."

Completely in line with what our dear (caretaking) PM had said when the first voices were heard regarding the modified amnesty bill "please be patient, there a whole process still to be followed, go home". The 'blanket amnesty bill' would have sailed through if no one had protested. Makes you wonder what other tricks Pheu Thai wants to come up with ermm.gif

Directing a government agency to investigate someone because they oppose you politically is abuse of office.

Another 20 cases of libel for someone just sentenced to a year's jail for that offence?

Do these people not have anything better to do than put out daily releases threatniing anyone who opposes them?

Yeah, right! Good luck with that! cheesy.gif

I know - Tarit is listening to a man who was just convicted of discrediting the judiciary - Are we tax payers still paying Prompong salary!!!

Any request for investigation, that comes from the PT to the DSI, will be acted upon....

We should all know by now.....nothing happens to these people (Nopparit and company)...convictions or not....they appear to have total immunity.

If this guy post-9891-0-41741500-1387177905_thumb.jp and this guy post-9891-0-06843000-1387177898_thumb.jp

Pheu Thai asks EC to take legal action against Suthep

BANGKOK: -- The Pheu Thai Party Monday petitioned the Election Commission to launch an investigation against the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) for having allegedly violated the election law.

Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit filed the petition after PDRC secretary general Suthep Thaugsuban announced his intention to obstruct election process. Suthep also announced that he would pus for postponement of the snap election from four to eight mounts.

Prompong noted that Suthep had said Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand (STR) adviser Nitithorn Lamlua would lead protesters to obstruct party-list candidacy registration next week. As a result, Suthep and Nitithorn had clear intention to obstruct election process, Prompong alleged.

Actually I seem to remember Tarit said they had evidence to link Thaksin to the 2010 protests and the DSI was part of a meeting with other agencies to try to bring him back to face charges. After the election Tarit suddenly decided that he and the DSI had been pressured into that statement by the government. So now you have a man and department who have admitted to bowing to government pressure investigating the current opposition supposedly in an unbiased fashion.

Also what about the Ombudsman who has asked repeatedly for an explanation for giving Thaksin his passport back but keeps getting asked for another 30 days?

The threats from Tarit seem to be aimed at frightening the opposition into submission! They must be making the law as they go along, in desperation of silencing them. unbeleiveable that an individual cannot support financially a political movement of his choice! Unless its PTP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Proof if ever you needed it, that this lot aren't fit to be in government.

You simply can't make this s**t up!

Oh the hypocrisy of it.

I guess the retired group better watch out for their retired pay. They might take it away. And then there goes all the booze and little wives down the drain. Hahahahahahahaha. I love it.

Financial support would include the per diem for the thugs on the streets, including the ones planning to storm the US embassy.? That could get very nasty if companies are involved

Talking about the Red Shirts there....

Well technically he's in caretaker mode but more importantly this arch criminal is awaiting the courts decision on his bail.

But of course you would have already known that if you'd bother to read your own link!

No, they're not. It's very specific who is supposedly planning to take over the US Embassy. Only somebody thinking that suthep is the answer would be that stupid.

Mind you if suthep is the answer it must have been one stupid @#%$ing question.

Thanks for the flowers,

but this was more a rhetorical question.

I am still of the opinion that convicted criminals have no place in the government or in a public offices.
