phantomfiddler Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Your life is not safe, everyday a farang dies. Good job. We are looking at 2x 15 years jail and 1x 30 years jail. Lucky we have a General now. "Every day a farang dies. Good job" Are you of sound mind ? I think not !
SOTIRIOS Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 ....if a popular...successful business........not to say it wasn't arranged...
Alwyn Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 They'll be long gone... Murderous little twunts. When I was on Samui (2002 - 2005) before I moved to Phuket, this kind of thing never, ever happened. The "5 families" understood it was bad for tourism. If they get hold of the kids before the police the kids will be fish food. It was bad enough when the poor girl from Cambridge was murdered by the Burmese fishermen, this is unreal.. RIP 1
daoyai Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Someone sitting on your bike, happened to me before, just smile at them, they move off, and you get on with your life Yep had it happen many times......they soon move off. Such a normal thing around bar areas, walk up, smile, greet, and they naturally move to another bike. I do not blame the victim but he used the wrong strategy for Thailand. sad
crazykopite Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Very sad news it is always terrible when you hear of such violence I hope that the Samui police will do everything in there power to round up these young thugs, life is very cheap ,Samui is no different from anywhere else in the kingdom if these guys are caught they will at best get 3 years if that and if the family is wealthy it will never get to the courts.my thoughts are with the family of the deceased and his GF. 1
Popular Post bdenner Posted August 20, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 20, 2014 Someone sitting on your bike, happened to me before, just smile at them, they move off, and you get on with your life Another apologist for the unacceptable behaviour of Thai youth (and their elders). Why is it never the Thai's fault ? Are you that desperate to live in or just like Thailand that you'll put up with a never ending shafting at the behest of thugs and lawless teens ? Sad but the way things are these days, now it has mostly gone to sh*t. So your the expert (sic)! What would you have done confronted with the same situation! This is a world wide problem, if you can call it that! - NOT confined to Thailand. Me. I would do exactly the same as the bartender100, a bit of banter "hey guys can I have me bike" and on my way. NOT thump me chest and encourage a confrontation. 5
Popular Post H1w4yR1da Posted August 20, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 20, 2014 First RIP to the poor gentleman. If the smile does not work walk away and come back later when they are gone.Sorry but are you seriously suggesting that one should just walk off if encountering a Thai man sitting on your bike and wait for him to leave? Unbelievable! The cultural barrier is down and no longer protects the arrogant white manSo you're saying that is arrogant to tell someone not to sit on your bike but perfectly fine to sit on a stranger's bike in the first place? You sound like just another Thai apologist blaming the foreign victim. 12
richusa Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Add another destination, I will avoid....running out of safe places in Thailand. If you mind your own business and look the other way, as long as your not getting screwed royally,,,,,then all may be well. 2

Sad but the way things are these days, now it has mostly gone to sh*t. Thais sitting on your bike is hardly the heinous crime you describe. It should not happen but it is certainly not worth getting in a fight over. Some times, turning the other cheek does not equate to you "putting up with a never ending shafting at the behest of thugs and lawless teens" 4

wicketkeeper Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 You say "thanks for polishing the bike" and smile. Their usual reaction is to move away, embarrassed. But smiling. 2

It was not "a" Thai man, it was a group. One on one is a bit different wouldn't you agree. I am not going to ruffle a Thais feathers when he has his mates around. 1

Yes, alcohol is great stuff for murder -- remember, it diminshes ihibitions. Best take heed. Sounds like a threat? To be fair I was walking around for exercise at midnight one night a couple of months back, like is strikingly safe in most places in Asia, and had to walk through one of these parking lots outside a nightclub. A pack of teens was sitting outside on their bikes, and boy they gave me a look like a pack of ferocious dogs ready for attack, I got the message and have no doubt there was some anti-"white devil" sentiment as you claim, no clue why such aggressiveness exists, and I was just innocently walking by on my nightly exercise, fortunately there were some security guards nearby and I walked on unimpeded, but locked the door when I got home and vowed to watch out for such immature little punks, hell maybe they ended up wrecking the bike into a tree later that night, seems like it'd serve them right. I think the odds of coming across them is compounded in tourist areas. RIP

Popular Post BradinAsia Posted August 20, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 20, 2014 Someone sitting on your bike, happened to me before, just smile at them, they move off, and you get on with your life So that's what you will do if I sat on your bike? What if the smile doesn't work? What's your next approach? The smile always works. But in the rare case it didn't, just give the regular friendly Thai greeting. I've owned big bikes for over 50 years in various countries (Western and Asian). Someone sitting on your bike can happen anywhere in the world. I saw it happen numerous times in Japan. Recently, in Chiang Mai, I came back to my new pickup truck in the hospital parking lot and was very surprised to see that some middle aged Thai guy had opened my tail gate and was using it as a writing desk. It was fairly obvious that he intended no harm to my vehicle. I opened my driver door and greeted him with a smile -- he promptly left. Certainly, I don't condone the killing, but common sense tells us a farang may get by with anger and a nasty mood in his own country, but it's definitely not a good idea in another country. 4

Popular Post Jiu-Jitsu Posted August 20, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 20, 2014 Someone sitting on your bike, happened to me before, just smile at them, they move off, and you get on with your life If you sat on my bike, I would punch you in the face and then smile. Have a nice day a..hole. You need to fix that attitude, before it fixes you. Many times, in Thailand, I have sat on someone else's bike and they have sat on mine. If the owner comes along you give a nod and get up. Same with someone who sits on your bike. The key is always to avoid confrontation. Even if you are the hardest dude in town. You don't need to smile. You just need to let them know without aggression. Unless there is damage to your bike, there is no need to create drama. There are few places to sit and motorbikes are ubiquitous. No need to create bad feeling over something so small. If you approached me in such a manner, I would feel affronted and perhaps respond to you in an equally abrupt manner. Which might lead to an altercation. You might not emerge the winner. Would it have been worth it? You don't always have to smile. People can sense when you don't have a good mood, but you don't need to be aggressive or belittle. Don't make enemies. I'm certainly not commenting on what happened to the person mentioned in the original story. I was not there, so have no right to pass judgment. 6
Popular Post tuyatim Posted August 20, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 20, 2014 Why is it that everyone except bdenner thinks that incidents like this are unique? Take your blinkers off people - murders happen all over the world. Unfortunately nowhere is safe. I think it's disgusting how so many here are denigrating the Thai youth as if they're the only aggressive people in the world. One of the contributors here has already demonstrated his own aggressiveness with his "punch his face then smile" comment - aggressiveness that encourages hate that all too often leads to serious injury or death. The best you can do in this world is to avoid confrontation. Most of the moronic aggressors will eventually get bored when nobody retaliates. Their brains are only wired to fight. 4

What if the smile doesn't work? What's your next approach? A good question. Since he was with his Thai gf, there was no language barrier. You would have to tackle the problem or get a taxi home. Getting angry in Thailand is never the right approach though. It should never have happened. RIP He could have backed-off and had his GF or a member of the nightclub staff procure the bike. One has to ask the question of what was the Blood-Alcohol level of the victim? Anyway, R.I.P. to the victim of this senseless murder.
You can call me Al Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 The German guy was a member of the Outlaws MC . I know these bikers go nuts if anyone touches their bikes so i can imagine this had something to do with the speed the incident descended into violence 1

Yes it's not worth it but the biggest loss is the Germans life and probably due to testoterone. Not that I am blaming him for being killed, it certainly was not his fault but if he has lived here long enough he knows the way to to deal with these animals and he made a wrong choice.

If you need to beat your chest and solve every fight with a punch to the head to show how tough and manly you are, then be prepared to get stabbed, shot at or attacked by multiple people We don't know exactly how this guy behaved but if he behaved like a total tool like so many farangs in thailand who need to prove a point, then you better accept the risks 3
