For Godsake's people....stop merely whinging on this site....do something....start boycott campaigns in whichever way you can ! Two young foreign lives with a lot of future potential were losts, yet no justice and the locals and even the local authorities are making a joke out of everything. Where has all your pride and dignity gone foreigners? Start boycotting all the Southern Islands and Provinces,....better still start boycotting Thailand and all its products till justice is done.

Well, when locals and local authorities turn this double murder/rape publicly into a joke - it just shows how much the locals value human life in Ko Tao.

Yep, it will be safe place for tourists in the future, too.

This island will attract more visitors than ever before during this high season, In turkish there is a saying, "There is no such thing as bad advertisement, advertisement is advertisement"

People who never heard of the rave parties going on in this ısland will visit it this high season.

What Thailand fails to realize is that they need to get their priorities in order in accrordance with how the tourists feel. Solve the murder first and then establish steps to ensure safety before you even think about considering re-establishing tourism.

Meanwhile the locals are openly mocking this savage double murder / rape. It's all just a joke to them.

The guy holding the hoe in the photo (which was taken afterwards, I've seen it posted elsewhere) appears to be the same guy who is holding the no sex on the beach sign. Note the same brown wristbands, the same goatee, same nose and same necklace.

That sign is being held behind the bar in, you guessed it, AC bar. These guys have ZERO Tact.

The fact that locals, no less the locals who work in the bar right next to the killing are joking about it says it all.

After the case was closed?

Yet I have read a news story about 2 murdered farangs and they have pre-empted the wrapping up of the case after bearing witness to 250 articles regarding this story.?

Then the accusations came out. It was the Burmese that killed them. Then it was the farangs. Then it was the Thai's. Then with DNA it was Asians. Then it was farangs again. Then it was farangs, but the Asians raped the innocent victim. Then the mafia, but then not the mafia. The police say they are one day from arresting someone, but then they don't. There was blood on the jeans, but then there was not. There was one murder weapon then there was two.

It goes on and on and on. And I am sure the next article about this subject will have the similar amounts of posts again as if it was the very first article ever about this terrible unfortunate crime.

Groundhog Day comes to mind.

With that said though. RIP to the victims.

See you tomorrow and the day after and the day after and the day after and the da…………..

Paraphrasing Morrissey..."Thailand....so much to answer for".

Not everything in Thailand is negative

You could say the same for anywhere.

Come one and all to Kho Tao and join in the hunt for the murderers of the two backpackers expose the cover-up by local police who in their right mind would go to Kho Tao with murderers running loose on the streets, get the perpetrators of this heinous crime locked up for real, and stop all the stupid nonsensical press release’s all this must be terrible distressing reading for the family of the deceased.

You're absolutely right but that doesn't absolve them of their many flaws and failures. If a country is happy to have a human rights record on a par with North Korea you know that country and culture has serious problems. It's not all negative but it's certainly a long way from being positive. We're well into the 21st century, how much time do they need to get their act together ?

Grand travel events planned for Ko Tao after murder case solved

BANGKOK, 28 September 2014 (NNT) - Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanawarangkun has traveled to Ko Tao island in Surat Thani province to follow up on the progress of the murder of two British tourists. The minister said she would arrange activities to boost confidence among tourists after the case was closed.

After arriving in the island, the minister met with local officials, tourism entrepreneurs and tourists to listen to their problems and opinions. The Surat Thani governor told the minister that Ko Tao still lacked government officers to work on the island and there was insufficient water for consumption. The island also faced an electricity problem since it used power from the private sector only.

Ms Kobkarn said she had studied the problems of Ko Tao before visiting the island and confirmed all sides were doing their best in solving the murder case. The minister added that she had approved the establishment of a tourist police center on the island as well as grand events to improve the image of Ko Tao.

'Their best' is not good enough, they need properly trained people to do the job not some people playing at it. As for your Koh Tao party you can shove it up your proverbial.

Disgraceful!

The case of Kirsty Jones' muder in Chiang Mai 14 years ago is still unsolved (although I think everyone knows who did it). This case will remain unsolved just the same (although I think everyone knows who did it).

I had the misfortune of seeing photographs of the poor girl's body earlier this week. I awoke the next morning with those images in my head. A truly evil person did that.

This is reminiscent of something that happened before, some of you may remember.

The MRT had been in operation for not very long, and there was an incident (can't recall if it was a derailment or collision), a few people were hurt. A few days later Thaksin (remember him?) made a statement that it was perfectly safe, and to prove it he rode it himself, full photo op. See, what more proof could you possibly require?

"See this farang? He has been here on Kho Tao three days and still he is not dead yet. Isn't that right, farang?"

Come on...the Minister of Tourism and Sports reassuring us that they are doing their best to solve the murders. What a joke!

Their timing is impeccable! Maybe they're getting confused...typically when translating Thai to English and vice-versa it comes out backwards.

Welcome to "Grand events" inside AC bar where you can shake hands with mafia and people with blood on their hands.

Have they come up with any silly slogans yet for this "Grand travel event"? like; Amazing unseen Koh Tao grand travel - It starts with the people and ends in tears.

What about handing out a pack of free rice to the few travelers showing up in one of those bags with a Siamese cat on that TAT planned to use before at the airport?
