Road safety in Chiang Mai will be more stringent during Songkran festival

CHIANG MAI, 27 March 2015 (NNT)-The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) Chiang Mai Office is expected to take serious action against drunk drivers during Songkran Festival this year.

According to the DDPM, the ‘Drink, Drive and get Arrested' campaign has been organized with an aim to reduce road fatalities in Chiang Mai.

The measure comes on the heels of the province recording the highest road death toll in the country during the recent New Year celebration period. The campaign, which begins from April 1st, will be enforced more stringently from April 9th until April 15th, the last day of the festive season.

That should have been all year round and not only Songran.

I hear all these announcements before every holiday and then I read about all the deaths and accidents taking place.

Enforce the law all the time and may be people will start learning......I said, may be.........cos this is Thailand.

More words of wisdom, from a country with the second highest road deaths in the world!

Carnage on the highways has always been a fact of life in Thailand.

During extended holidays stay off the roads if possible, because it is even more dangerous than it usually is.

Farangs who have been here for a long time are survivors.

Every evening (after 9PM), it's a challenge to drive in CM.

Some drivers are driving very slow and some are driving very fast. Some are using all the 3 lanes on the Super Highway.

The Police are staying home at the Station, because it's to dangerous to get outside.

I read about the CM accident statistics at Songkran, but I wonder, if it's higher than "normal".

Will this be the same kind of crackdown that they promise

will solve the smog problem ,EVERY YEAR, drink driving

is a very serious issue,a life and death issue, and enforcement

of the laws needs to be strict, only then, hopefully drinking drivers

will realize its not acceptable, and anti social behavior.
