Jemani Ikhsan, 63, was caught after taking a flight from Singapore to Phuket.

PHUKET: -- An Indonesian man has been arrested at Phuket International Airport trying to smuggle 5.2 kilos of cocaine onto the island.

Jemani Ikhsan, 63, was caught at the airport after he stepped off a flight yesterday evening (April 20) from Singapore.

The drugs, worth B15.6 million, were in plastic packets covered with tinfoil and concealed in three books with the centres cut out, and also in rolls wrapped in foil, and were traced as Jermani's luggage passed through the security x-ray machines.

He had flown to Singapore from Bogota, Colombia, the world capital of cocaine production and sales, and home to some of the world’s most powerful drug cartels.

Police have stated that Jermani was due to deliver the drugs to a dealer in Khao Lak.

More details to come.

Good catch. Well done customs officers.

  • You didn't account for VAT, import duty, and shipping costs.

Lucky for him he wasn't caught in Indonesia... Then again... that might have been the less painful alternative.

Those phones and tablet would have some very useful information in them.

I hope the investigation doesn't end at just this arrest.

Wrapped in foil inside cut out books? w00t.gif

He'd have prob got away with it without the foil showing up on X-ray, having simply used plastic bags.

Loser. giggle.gifcheesy.gif

5.2 kilos, that's a hellavalot of coke. Don't know the purity but after it's been cut it's not surprising they valued it at over 15 million baht.

Colombia to Singapore to Phuket with a suitcase full of shadowy objects in the X--ray machine.

Smart operation.

The Indonesian PM will no doubt call for his execution....

Or Singapore!

Drug smuggling operation involving 5 kilos of coke, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, all wrapped up with the same individual flying himself to Bogota - sounds like suicide by cop to me. Bizarre.

Let me guess, this Indo guy life's is expendable and not worth the chair he sits on, he's a smuggler's

fodder who couldn't give a toss what will happened to him, as he's only the mule here....

X-Ray at arrival in Phuket. Why do I found that so hard to believe? Why wasn´t he caught in the X-Ray machine when boarding in Columbia already, or at least when boarding in Singapore?

Why are nobody pointing their fingers at him?

According to the police, a kilogram is worth about 3 million baht. Amazing how police exaggerate the value of drugs just to make their busts seem more important. According to online research, 1 kg in california is about 500,000 baht. That is a 600% exageration

So? How much is 1 kg in Phuket? And don't forget to include the purity in your prices, both on the market and of the bust.

I hope they top him as they would in his home country

Why didn't the BIB let him deliver the drugs to Khao Lak and bust the top guy.

Any way death penalty would be appropriate.

An old guy, most likely poor, got a family and kids to support, been trying to get ahead his whole life, manipulated into taking a huge, stupid risk for one payday that would have changed his family's life. Now a son, brother and father will be imprisoned for life in a hell hole due to the ridiculous and unnecessary war on drugs.

It has been 14 years since Portugal decriminalised all drugs. Drug abuse is down by half and drug related crime has also fallen massively.

Wake up people. Open your eyes. The war on drugs is always a war on the most oppressed and marginalised members of society. If the rich and powerful never profited and only the poor drug runners made well out of it, do you really think it would be illegal?

The weird thing about your post is the obvious contradiction caused by your social conditioning and media manipulation of your mind.

You almost got it when you said: why didn't the BIB let him deliver the drugs to Khao Lak and bust the top guy..

You then failed by saying: Any way, death penalty would be appropriate.

Sit down and think about those two statements. Soon a light bulb will come on.

Imagine if he was your son, or your father.

Death penalty. Another scumbag off the streets.

That is probably street value after it has been cut. If this is coming straight from Columbia, the dealer hasn't cut it yet. I am basing that off of what I paid per gram on the street about 30 years ago, 500k would be about right assuming price increase.

If he sentenced to die the hypocrites in Jakarta will be crying foul.63, should know better.

Cocain will blow your brain
And ecstasy
Will mash your life! thumbsup.gif

Stupid old man - he is just so lucky to have made it through Singapore without being caught and sentenced to death...

Think the dealer in Khao Lak should better put on his running shoes :)

French Customs found 2 tons of cocaine on a boat off Martinique yesterday. There was so much they could hardly find a place to walk. Boat flying an American flag. Three men on board 2 Spaniards and I think a South American.

The mule was arrested and will spend the rest of his life in Thai jail, but his family is probably wealthy by now.

The drug kingpin lost 5.2 kilos of cocaine this time but how many tons have he smuggled to Thailand so far?

Well done guys, You have caught him when Singapore have failed, Must admit, bit surprised.

Me thinks he is in a spot of bother do you not?

I never knew Phuket and California were the same place or physically near to each other and under the same government. What has the price in Calif got to do with the price in Phuket?

It's like comparing the price of a Merc 500SL in California and Phuket clue they are not close!
