Clay bar a car at carwash before waxing, where can they do it ?

So I have finally got the EV polished and glassed. As this appears topical I thought I'd give an idea of what is involved to those who are not quite sure. The guy,a friend, who did the polishing only does one car each car week and on a Saturday and is booked up until well into April. I could have polished the car myself but would not have done such a good job and it would have taken me somewhat longer! Anyway he wanted to know how Eco7000 went on as he had not used that product before. And he has IR Lamps!

The paint was pretty good to start with, even though Ford 'polished' it before delivery! and I had only washed the car a few times, and put a bit of Auto Glym HD wax on just to fight 'bird muck' etc.

In preparation I washed the car yesterday evening and again just before I took it around to his place at lunch time today.

First job was like a dry wash to remove any dust and then IPA to remove any wax. After that polish, IPA, glass coat and then cure with IR Lamps. My friend applied the glass coat and I buffed it off ... Having glass coated three cars previously I knew that he had grabbed the easiest job.

I had prepared nine micro fiber towels and identified eight areas on each towel... you can see identifying dots in the pic ... That way I got eight 'polish wipes' from each towel (using both sides). I divided the towels into three piles ... each area glass coated, had one 'polish wipe' from each pile. Very unfortunately I now have to bin what look like perfect micro fiber towels, as they contain particles of glass. You should have gathered that you divide the job up into manageable areas, if you leave it on too long before you try and polish it off ... bad news ... your arms get very tired!

If you input ... How to apply Eco7000 on You Tube, you will see that I used their system. Anyway I bought the glass coating direct from them and they supplied me with full application instructions.

The car was only polished and not 'de orange peeled' as that would have taken days and not hours! Ford paint does have quite a lot of orange peel. Whilst there a guy turned up with a new Toyota Corolla ... hell his paint was horrendous,it looked like a poor re-spray job!!

I have quite a lot of Eco 7000 left in that bottle(about 2/3rds) although I have now used it four times. It's four months old and has always been kept in a fridge. It is good for a year if stored in a fridge even after opening ... if anyone is interested.

  • The thing with claying is, while it cleans the paint (and removes any previous wax too), it also puts tiny scratches in the paint - so needs to be followed up with a polishing (cutting) step to remove

  • In my experience, you can ask dealers not to prep a new car, but they still do it - they all want their "shiny handover photo" .... And in my experience, that first prep always comes with a bunch of

OK, for the op, here is one of the high end wash and polish shops in patts, which also does "glass" coatings. I checked and they use professional grade maguire mirror glaze polishes and can't remember the wax but I'm sure it's good stuff. They quote 4k for wash-polish-wash for a four-door pickup. For the glass coating it's 30-45k, which is good for 5-10 years respectively. If one does the glass bit, no need for any polishes during that time...just wash and wax.

They are located on Sukie, west side, between south and central roads. There are many of these shops in patts so you may want to shop around...I'm not endorsing this shop just providing the info (they are right next to the shop that did my annual testing and registration that I picked up this morning).

where to get clay bars in Ptty ?

You should be able to buy one from any 'quality' detailer .... failing that www.thaiwashercarclub.com  ... be prepared to pay over 1000thb ... the ones from aliexpress are, in my opinion, too hard ...

no dealers have them. No car wash; (only 1) will sell 3m clay bars.  buy off ebay; forget Aliexpress.

I recommended to a guy on this forum who goes under the name of 'Wood' where to get some paintwork done and he was very pleased with the result ... I don't have a phone number but it's very close to 13.823597 100.560251 ...on Vibhavadi Rangsit Alley Soi 30 ... I have also used them.

It is the Soi just past Tri Petch ... if you go I suggest that you turn into Tri Petch 'by mistake' and then you drive straight out and into the next soi ... miss it and it's a big U-Turn!!

I can recommend a detailing shop at about 13.799950 100.561155 ... There is a guy there I know called Tony and he  speaks english ... he is not always at his business ... PM me for his mobile if you want .

snip of the paint shop attached ...building before knife and fork!!

Do you know any place to clay a car around Pattaya ? Why it doesn't seem famous in Thailand when it's actually essential ?

Has anybody found a place to clay your car around Pattaya ? Why Thai don't even know what is a clay bar ? is there any alternative ?
